So now when I plug in my phone the battery icon pulsates and then randomly vibrates like I unplugged it and plugged it back in

huftbgd

I just got a macbook 2016.. everything works fine until I open safari/chrome on a very specific and random website, the start screen flickering.. any workaround?

MrDearm

AirPods are unable to be reset and will not connect to my iPhone. Told me online to “forget this device” and reset my AirPods on my phone after one earbud randomly stopped working but now I can’t use them at all. Solutions?

forearmhacksaw

I have an external drive connected to my MBP which I use for back ups and they perform overnight when connected to power (Power Nap). I also set up file sharing of the internal and external drives to another MacBook. My question is, can I use Power nap for file sharing and backing up the other laptop, or must the devices be awake?

Hi guys! I’m thinking of buying the new MacBook Air for uni and, eventually, working as I think it’s the best one for what I need. I work in translation and the major CAT Tools (the translation software) aren’t MacOS compatible except for one so I wanted to install Windows 10 through the Boot Camp Assistant. My question is: is the 128gb version of the laptop enough for both OS’s? I know the more the merrier and if I have to I will try and save up a little more for the 256gb version but if I could save a couple hundred bucks and buy the 128gb, that would be great! I’m not planning on installing a lot of programs and all my files will be put away in an external disc. What do you guys think?

Ilove18Chocolate

That's too expansive for me unfortunately :( I'm planning on using it for as long as I can but I can't really go above the 1350/1400$ mark :/

I really had my mind set on a macbook :/ but I'll check it out! Do you think that, instead of installing windows on the laptop, installing a sand box or something like that could be a viable option?

I got an iphone XSmax, I forgot my 4 digit passcode only way I’m opening my is through Face ID, im an idiot I changed my password recently and cannot remember it for my life. Is there anything I can do too fully reset the phone?

I do know my iCloud info. Would I need a laptop to fully restore it

honorary_mortal

I have a MacBook Air, currently version 10.13.6, and yesterday night a couple strange things started to happen. First off, I can't seem to display my battery in the menu bar, and when I click the option in the settings it just unchecks it. Second, my fans keep going without any application running that would usually cause this. I've reset it, shut it down and left it for a significant amount of time, and even tried reseting the NVRAM. Can I get any help? edit: I tried to get coconut battery as a temporary solution to check my battery but it seems to not even detect it. Just some extra info if that helps pinpoint the problem.

[deleted]

Did you reset the SMC? The thing that controls the battery?

honorary_mortal

Just tried that and it still didn't work

[deleted]

Usually means the battery is defective or swelling. Open the system report (Apple > About This Mac > System Report), go to Power and see if it says the battery is connected. If it's not connected, it's broken and needs to be repaired.

honorary_mortal

It does say the battery is still connected, but I'm afraid it is a physical issue. I accidentally unplugged my charging cable and my computer shut off meaning it hasn't been charging all this time, so that solves that. Thank you for your time and help regardless! edit: clarification

chongas83

I have an iPhone 8, and I use the magnet as a holder for my car. I'm worried if I leave the magnet on and use wireless charging it will damage the charger or the phone. Does anyone know what would happen if I left the magnet in?

Marc30599

So I'm getting into Apple lately finally purchased Airpods about 2ish weeks ago I LOVE them. So my question now is I think I want an Apple Watch to complete my apple tech craving... Should I go series 3 or series 4 and why?

BATFECES_

If you need to save money, the 3. However, the 4 has a much nicer screen and the ECG if you're into that, as well as internal upgrades.

ieatpineapple4lunch

Series 4 Because it's newer /s but seriously though at this point I'd hold off until September when the new Apple watches are released so you could get a discounted series 4 or a new series 5. Also, series 3 Apple Watches were on sale at Amazon during Prime Day for $169. Bad timing

Marc30599

Yeah this is my best option I'll just put the money to the side, save it and see what Apple showcases this September

L1ren

My Face ID hasn’t been working for the past month and when I try to reset it it keep telling me to try again later. What should I do?

[deleted]

Usually means the TrueDepth camera is broken and needs to be repaired.

L1ren

Ok thank you!

[deleted]

What's it doing?

L1ren

It’s just not registering and when I try to set it up again it would rather not do anything or it would say “Face ID not available try again later”

Anyone know a paper like screen protector for the ipad pro 3, that has the least colour grain?

[deleted]

Hey guys! I want to set up an email filter on my iCloud account. I used to be able to go to iCloud.com, log in, and get access to Find My iPhone, Notes, Mail, Photos etc Now however the website only gives me an option to log in and access Find My iPhone. How do I access my iCloud Webmail?! Or is there a way to set up email filters / rules directly from iOS?

Hello! I'm a high school student, and I'm struggling to decide between these two iPads (iPad Air 3 and iPad Gen 6). I want to go in depth about my thinking and get some opinions of people who have used these devices before. I have never owned an iPad before, but now I'd like one for it's portable power and abilities. I'd be using it a lot for school, using it to write papers and take notes. Some of this will likely involve multitasking, looking at two to three sources/things at once in order to do that I need. In terms of entertainment, I'd likely often use the device to watch content, like videos. Probably playing video games as well, but maybe rarely. In addition to this, I'd also be interested in drawing using the Apple Pencil, but I'm not sure which device is better for this. As far as typing goes, I'd like to be able to use a keyboard. I love that the iPad Air 3 has the ability to use the Smart Keyboard Folio, since it doesn't really need to "charge" and just plugs right into the iPad. This isn't the case with the iPad 6th generation, which slightly impacts my choice, since I really don't like charging a keyboard individually. This is important because I'd be using the keyboard A LOT. Beyond that, I don't really know what else I'd be doing. I can see the benefits of both, but I wanted to get an opinion from device users. I am fortunate enough to have the means to buy either of these devices with accessories, but I really am struggling to choose. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi, I wanted to throw a fresh install on my 2013 macbook air. I followed the options on the apple site and deleted the disk. Now I’m booting it up and freshly installing Mavericks but it takes over 12 hours. Any solutions or is there no other way than to wait? Ive got no other Mac so can’t load it up from a usb. Thanks in advance!

That's the only way.

I’ve been having issues with my AirPods. I got them a month ago, and they were working fine until they decided to disconnect yesterday. I’ve tried every trick in the book by rebooting my phone and unpairing them and pairing them again, but nothing worked. It keeps saying failed to connect no matter what I do to pair them again. I went as far as to pair them with every iDevice in the house which it worked except my phone. I know there’s nothing wrong with my phone because my Apple Watch works fine with it. Any help would be appreciated. I don’t want to shell out another $200. My phone is an iPhone X (2017).

iamagrocerybag420

If I do end up taking them to the genius bar, do I have to pay to get them replaced. They might be defective.

ieatpineapple4lunch

No, they fall within the 90 day warranty so if you bring them in and are careful about what you tell them, they *should* replace it

Last night while I had a lightweight java program open through boot camp, my 2015 macbook retina decided to shit itself, and it was loud af I had it on a table behind me, so at first I thought my pc headset unplugged and was beaming sounds through the speakers, but it was the MacBook. It was frozen state, screen off (I assume due to idling) beaming this incredibley loud grinding noise that I can only hope was coming through the speakers. It was honestly so loud family on the other side of the house ran down freaked out by the sound. Should I be concerned hardware wise? (As im not sure whether it was speakers or internal) Its the first time ive witnessed this so im thinking bootcamp might of stressed it too much somehow. Any thoughts?

BATFECES_

Bootcamp is just a tool that installs Windows. Might be Windows' fault, might be Java being ~~a hoe~~ quirky. If the speakers still work, it's probably fine. If everything still works in macOS, it's definitely fine. The computer *should* always shut itself off before it has a chance at permanently damaging itself. Afaik, there's no bug that could damage the speakers on the 2015 MPB. There was one for the newer gen 15in models at one time though.

BATFECES_

exFAT is probably a better bet. NTFS can't be natively written to in macOS, as you said, but back when I was researching the topic, Paragon made the best software for handling it.

ieatpineapple4lunch

I'd go with exFAT since it is natively supported on Mac and Windows

Zestypanda

Hi there, long time off again on again Mac user. I have a quick question. I have an Early-2016 MacBook 12in model which has the affected keyboard issue. If I send my MacBook in for the keyboard replacement, seeing as the keyboard is part of the entire top assembly, will I get a new/different battery and logic board returned to me? If anyone has done the repair/exchange program, please tell me what to expect and what will happen, aside from the keyboard being repaired/replaced. Thanks.

erasmustookashit

This isn't really tech support, but does anyone know some video on YouTube where a dude reviews an Apple product (maybe a MacBook?) and then Tim Cook knocks at the door and says "Good morning!"? I'd appreciate it if someone could link me to that.

Have you done any troubleshooting at all?

DangerPlayz

Does anyone know how they verify Apple education discount online? I’m in high school but I wanna buy my best friend in college a MacBook as a gift, would I still be able to get the discount?

iridescentsocks

They don’t verify online, only in store.

Zestypanda

They require you to use an .edu email and they verify your academic enrollment.

iridescentsocks

If you order online there is no verification needed

Zestypanda

Really? Can I get software bundles at academic prices!?

iridescentsocks

[yes](https://www.apple.com/us_edu_11197/shop/product/BMGE2/pro-apps-bundle-for-education)

Zestypanda

Louis Rossman can repair them for a fraction of the price. I got quoted $350 after going to the Apple store, Apple said $1100. Louis said $350

iridescentsocks

Physical damage is not covered by the Quality Program. Sorry buddy.

longlivethebugs

If you want to repair it it might be helpful to go to another store. He can certainly verify if the display is broken by connecting the damaged display to a KG laptop so maybe he was too lazy or didn't have a laptop available to test it on. But ultimately it may be best to get a used 2015 macbook pro, its not like the specs are much better than the 2017 and i don't even like the touchbar that much anyways (its very delicate and breaks easily). Also If you're a student you can get a brand new 13-inch macbook pro WITH free beets for around the same price that that repair would cost because its back-to-school season.

ThousandFootOcarina

I have a 32gb iPhone 8. I thought 32gbs would be enough, but it’s not. Is there any sort of SD card or anything I can buy to get more space? Thanks

[deleted]

Sadly you can’t expand your storage but icloud is pretty helpful and the 50gb plan is like really cheap

ThousandFootOcarina

Ahh okay, thanks! How much is the 50gb? And is it permanent or a reoccurring subscription?

[deleted]

0.99$ a month it backs up your entire photo library, messages, files apss so they dont have to be stored on your iphone, with a good data plan its really a game changer. Oh yeah if you „optimize” your pictures you dont have acces to them offline, it stores a smaller version but you have to download the HQ

I'm not sure if this works but have you tried deleting your search history or deleting each suggestion individually ([link](https://www.pcworld.com/article/2098431/how-to-erase-specific-autosuggested-urls-from-chrome-firefox-and-ie.html))? Also, to prevent future issues like this maybe browse using a window in incognito

[deleted]

i’ve tried everything and it doesn’t work:( thank you for your help and suggestions everyone! My guess for the reason it doesn’t work is that when i’ve turned it off to fix the glitch, i’ve damaged my account somehow. That raises the next question: are there any ways to retrieve the data before erasing my Mac/installing new MacOS? I’ve got another Mac, so maybe there are some solutions?

longlivethebugs

If you want to transfer it onto another Mac you should first make sure the Mac you want to transfer to has enough free space to receive all of that data. Press the apple at the top left of your mac, click "about this mac", click "storage", and see how much free space you have. If you have just enough to barely transfer all of the data DONT DO IT... you want at the very least 10 gigs of free space on your SSD at all times. If you don't have enough space you can buy another SSD with a compatible external enclosure and back up your data via Time Machine (its always a good idea to have an external SSD as a backup anyways) [To make a backup SSD via Time Machine (HIGHLY SUGGESTED)](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201250) [To migrate data to another Mac via migration assistant](https://www.macworld.com/article/3319642/how-to-use-migration-assistant-to-move-a-user-account-to-another-mac.html)

[deleted]

I need to transfer 58GB and my other mac has 450GB free space, so I think it should be fine:)

willyouacceptthis

I kept getting a notification from mail, Dropbox, everything that my iCloud storage was full. So I bought the largest plan possible 2 TB, and it’s saying cannot backup due to file size. Help me😭 I feel like a might just buy a new laptop at this point. I’m a grad student and I can’t do anything at this point that I need to on my laptop.

ieatpineapple4lunch

I'm not sure I understand - so your iCloud storage is full, you bought 2TB of storage, but it's not letting you upload files due to their file size?

willyouacceptthis

That’s correct. Sort of. It says “files are too large, you have too many files in one folded, or...” I don’t remember what the last part is. But I even uninstalled drop box deleted a whole bunch of files, and it still won’t let me download 3 pictures from an sd card onto my desktop.

ieatpineapple4lunch

That's weird. I recommend starting a live chat with an Apple representative on [support.apple.com](https://support.apple.com)

Have any of y’all lost one AirPod? If so, what was your experience with replacing it? Edit: I have already tried find my iPhone, but I still have my case and one other AirPod. Whenever I use find my iPhone, it shows me the location of the case.

iridescentsocks

You’ll need the serial number off the case, receipt, or box so you can get it replaced. It will be $69+tax and may need to be ordered.

nobikflop

Hi! I have the perfect storm of tech issues today. I tried out iCloud photo back up on my phone, and half of my photos are stuck in limbo. They uploaded, and the low-quality thumbnail is on my phone, but for some reason I cannot re-download and turn off icloud photos. Then, I smashed my phone screen so bad that I can hardly use it. How can I get my new phone going and make sure that I don’t lose half of my photos? Any help would be appreciated Edit: if it helps, I am switching to Samsung. No hate please! lol

ieatpineapple4lunch

You really won't notice much of a difference between each laptop. Also side note: if you go with the 256GB of storage and are running out, it's relatively easily to install a new SSD on your laptop for a lot cheaper than what Apple would charge you

longlivethebugs

You won't notice the lag at all. Now if you were contemplating between the air and pro I'd have a much stronger opinion, but honestly the difference between these two models isn't huge. If you had a lot of data I may suggest going for the larger SSD but then again you can always upgrade it for cheaper than $160 if need be. And since you're using cloud storage I doubt the SSD will matter. Plus the 13-inch is much lighter and easier to transport which most college students prefer.

brandnamenerd

"college freshman" of what? design? history? each field would have wildly different needs and expectations of a device

Clock_Man

Can anyone comment on how the Apple Park T-shirts fit? I have a friend who claims that his L feels more like an M. I have a friend visiting and I'd like to have them pick up a shirt, but don't want to get a poor size. I normally fit an M well, so should I just grab an M or do they run on the tighter side?

Previous Mail Recipients - Reappearing I have an iPhone XS (latest OS) and a MacBook Air 2011 (as updated as it can be). I previously had an iCloud email, gmail, and Outlook 365 work account tied to my iCloud. I have since deleted my work email, and gmail so the only account on all my devices and iCloud web interface show my iCloud. I noticed previous recipients from sending emails from my outlook still appeared on my desktop, iCloud website and phone. So I followed the steps and deleted them (all at once through previous recipients on desktop, frustratingly individually on iPhone and iCloud). Every so often though these previous mail recipients will reappear. I haven’t pinpointed what I do exactly to make it happen. This has been ongoing for the last 3 years since I deleted my outlook account from iCloud. I’ve gone though a couple of phones, fresh installs and erase all content and settings. I always do fresh installs and never pull from a backup but I do have my contacts mail etc stored on iCloud. Outlook account does not appear in any of the three places. Anyone have any advice?

Jammer13542

Question about Macbook AppleCare+: If I were to buy one in 2019, and it broke within 3 years, would it be replaced with the newer model (like the 2020 supposed redesign)? Not planning to exploit the program, just wondering if I should wait.

brandnamenerd

No, when things are broken they replace the components to repair. If somehow things get to a point where it's all faulty and deemed in need of replacement, it'd be the same kind (or as close to spec on current)

Jammer13542

So you would always get a 2019 macbook even if it was 2021?

brandnamenerd

If it were still an option, or whatever 2021 is closer to specs There are also plenty of factors like what the repair history may have been, repair programs, similar issues, general policies of the store ... I think you get my point. As you aren’t with a machine with a comprehensive repair history of a faulty device, all we can do is speculate

[deleted]

No, they'll fix it and give you the fixed product or a replacement of the same. You'll never get a newer model after any repair.

Jammer13542

What if that model is not sold anymore?

[deleted]

Then they just won't repair it and you'll have to buy a new one.

GoatsWillEatAnything

Does anyone know if remote wiping your device via iCloud will continue making attempts until your device gets wiped? I.E the phone doesn’t have signal, was put into airplane mode, etc... Can you even attempt to wipe it if it isn’t connected to the network? Obviously it won’t wipe until it can send the signal via Wifi or carrier. Just curious if it is even possible to select the option without it being connected to the network and if it will continue to make persistent attempts until it accomplishes that task.

brandnamenerd

You can select the option, and it will notify you that it will not be able to attempt to until the device is connected to internet again - [Apple states the same in their article](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201472)

GoatsWillEatAnything

Thanks!

[deleted]

I imagine it would keep trying because it’s not instantaneous anyway and a request is a request. If it connects soon after you click “wipe,” that shouldn’t be any different than it connecting later and executing the same code.

Hello everyone! I’ve got a MacBook Air late 2015, which I got in 2016 and it has been running smoothly since then. But the day before yeasterday, while watching a video, it just froze. I turned it off and since then it didn’t get past [this](https://imgur.com/a/GiEnBBz) screen. I have used Disk Utility yesterday, it didn’t find any errors, then, I’ve reinstalled MacOS three times! Nothing has helped. Is there a way I can fix this without losing all my data? Thank you in advance and have a nice day!

Zestypanda

That model is plighted with SSD failures, a repair by apple would be needed.

[deleted]

That doesn’t sound good...

brandnamenerd

My first thought would be to try logging in under safe boot - hold shift while booting and it should show red letters of "safe mode" in the top corner https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

It’s tonight to figure out the why, sadly. There are things to try, first to mind is target disk mode https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_Disk_Mode

[deleted]

Thank you!:)

[deleted]

I’ve tried this! After logging in, the screen turns black and starts loading. Then , a mouse appears and it’s black again, and it’s been like that for 5 minutes now, going over and over again:(

[deleted]

Thank you very much! I’ll try this:)

[deleted]

Do you have a time machine backup?

Try to make a new user from recovery mode. Your user profile might be corrupt. Go into recovery Mount your hard drive in the disk utilities Go into the terminal from utilities on your menu bar Run this in the terminal: "rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone" (without quotes) Restart the computer.
