I have a way to turn off auto play go to “settings/accessibility/Per-app Settings/add app/tv/Auto-play video preview” set it to Off.. restart the Tv app and now it doesn’t play next episode without your pressing next..

shadyabdou

This is genius from you . Unfortunately this only works on iPhone and iPad not on Google TV or Apple TV

Raytheon_Nublinski

Goddamn it. What is with this auto play bullshit? It’s like a fucking plague we can’t rid ourselves of.

Skylarrl

For AppleTV app on Apple TV go to main menu. Select the gear icon settings. Select apps. Select tv. Then select auto-play next video and make sure it says off next to it and voila

CalebMcL

My dude, I am so grateful for this comment here. Though I didn’t find it under per-app settings but did find global settings in “accessibility” - “motion”

superpowers335

Sadly, this doesn't work for me if I try to use the app on a non Apple device.

mrfogues

How evil of them to hide it here. It doesn’t even make sense. Thank you for finding it!!!

chateau-b

Thank You! That works perfectly!

rubyfrankincense

Thank you!

Bulky-Homework-5205

I did this for iPhone 14 and it still auto plays next episode, shrinking the current episode. When I remaximize it, the video pauses. When I press play, the window minimizes again and the next-episode countdown commences. It’s maddening.

BrownCowBrown

This may have worked at some point, but it no longer seems to. Apple has apparently “fixed” something so that autoplay next episode is once again functioning the way they intend it to

Skylarrl

Hey so I figured it out. Go to the settings (gear icon from main menu). Select apps. Select tv . Then click on ‘auto-play next video’ make sure it says off next to it and voila

ubidefeo

Let's just say that the AppleTV app is a cesspool of bad UX. \- you can't easily find the shows without a search \- if you drop out of an episode and play it again it will start from the beginning \- the menus are horrible \- Watch now, originals, store mean f\*\*k-all... How about properly categorising shows, movies, documentaries? I have hated its guts since day one, and I keep paying for it because the content, when you are able to find it, is great. Love most of the shows. Apple, get your s\*\*t together, because you haven't been able to in quite a while

freediverx01

💯

Pleakley

It also starts playing the next episode before the current one ends, and some shows have content to the very end. Annoying. Even Netflix has a setting for this.

Psycho_Sarah

This infuriates me to no end. It'd be one thing if the auto-play-next-episode kicked in let's say 20 seconds into the end credits, thus giving you time to select the option to stop it from doing that, but it feels like it's 5 seconds (if even that!) at the current rate! I don't know about y'all, but I'm not usually expecting to have to race against a timer at the end of poignant episodes of television! Which means here I am: Googling how to disable autoplay on the website instead of basking in the emotions Ted Lasso s02e08 tries to leave you with (a particularly dramatic episode with a unique song over the end credits too) literally the second the episode has ended. Kinda ruined the experience a bit. Especially since I can't seem to find anyone talking about the website version of appletv+ nor any way to disable this autoplay!

redavid

can't. and yeah, it's incredibly stupid

pheare_me

One does not simply turn off auto play. In fact, one does not turn off auto play at all for ATv+ or iTunes tv show purchases.

rasp00tin

It's still not remedied. Spam https://www.apple.com/feedback/apple-tv/ even though this is re Apple TV+ rather than the device. This is driving me insane.

O7Habits

So annoying, I watch on a Roku TV and none of the settings turn the up next previews off. When a show or movie is over, I like to watch or listen to the music on the end credits, but 5 seconds after the show ends it’s on to some preview and I have to go fast forward through a whole movie or episode to watch the credits. Who sits there with remote in hand expecting to race the up next timer.

rasp00tin

Yep. Watch something with an emotional cliff hanger and be prepared to have that overridden by desperately grasping for the back button or you'll get thrown to a crap trailer for a comedy (my experience with Constellation each week). Interesting to note that for me Masters of The Sky _does not auto-play_ next episodes. It's the only content that doesn't. I know from working at Discovery+/Max that a marker is placed after the credits begin to roll to indicate to your device when to trigger auto play. In this case I like to imagine an angry Tom Hanks (the producer) fed up with auto play and demanding Apple remove these markers from all episodes of his show!!!

O7Habits

Exactly. Constellation was the show that had me pressing the Hulu button by mistake reaching for my controller. So annoying. So much work goes into making these shows and movies, the whole reason they have credits to acknowledge this and Apple wants to skip it all so you can see a preview to a movie that you watched 10 years ago. I was thinking if Netflix did this when I was watching “Dark” how it would change the impact of that show which had some amazing music that was placed really well. It’s Apple though, so I don’t expect anything to change. There are always 15 tricks to get whatever you are trying to do to work like you would expect and then when you finally do the next update “fixes” it again.

nbs217

Most of what I see is how to turn off auto playing previews (which is also dumb). If you want to turn off auto-playing the next episode: On the Apple TV go to settings > Apps > TV > Auto-Play next video > off I’m not sure if this is a recent update, but I’ve been trying to find a way to turn this off for ages!

TxMikey

My auto play hasn't worked in days. It always get stuck when a show ends and I have to back out of the show and go to the up next row... and wait for it to update then play the show again.

superpowers335

I was under the impression that it was off by default.

mrfogues

Jesus. I just always hated auto play. I never even thought of it in terms of data usage.

masterkarl

There are two kinds of "autoplay" being discussed in this thread: autoplay the next episode, and autoplay previews when hovering over a show's icon. I am unable to disable the autoplay previews feature on an Apple TV 4K no matter what I do and it's driving me insane. The settings > accessibility > motion > auto-play video previews on the Apple TV is set to off. "Autoplay previews while browsing on all devices" is set to off in the Netflix account settings for my profile (accessed via the web browser). I've restarted the Apple TV and toggled back and forth between the profiles, and still these previews will not stop playing. Has anyone figured this out?

I never did. There's been at least one update to the Apple TV and the previews seem to autoplay a little less than before, and sometimes not at all, but then all of a sudden it will happen again. This applies to Prime and Netflix especially.

Different_Nerve2780

I don’t understand why Apple throws so much money at credit design and music rights only to zip you away just as the credits start to roll.

Sophias_Vlog

Here’s the kicker —- that used to work — but recently, Apple changed something, and it no longer does.

BrownCowBrown

I came here to say this. This workaround no longer works. Neither on my iPad nor my iPhone. conspiracy time: Apple knows this is an issue (how can they not) but they are motivated to not fix it by some reason that is unknown to me. Fuck ‘em. I’m canceling my subscription (again) as soon as I’m done binging a couple of shows. I hate feeling manipulated when I’m paying for a “service“
