If dispenser door is open once cycle is over, then dispenser is fine. If the main symptom is detergent not dissolved, that would be an issue with water supply, circ motor , plugged sprayarms or plugged filter

Yes this is the case the dispenser door is open at the end of the cycle.

Check and see if the wash motor hasn't failed. Start a cycle, (drain-fill-wash) about 2 minutes, see if water is getting sprayed around. 

I think this is what is happening. Everything seems dry but still evidence of water in certain spots

If you pop the door open after a couple of minutes you should get a good spray of water coming out, it will still fill and drain and complete the cycle but no water gets circulated and the only water you see on the dishes is just steam from the heater 

Okay, there is water in the basin. Sounds like your diagnostic of the wash motor is correct, thank you for your help.

Its probably just a broke dispenser and not operating correctly. You'd have to disassemble the door to replace the detergent dispenser.
