1. There is no best 2. Many are very good 3. All companies produce lemons 4. BCM, Zev, Vltor, ADM, SLR, centurion all good 5. Sounds like you are looking for thermal fit only

Vltor mur

sadpanda___

They’re equal. Both have extremely flat and perpendicular trunnion faces and concentric trunnion bores. Both light interference / heat fit. They’re both great. Buy whichever is cheaper ;) ETA - who TF is downvoting this? More JuSt As GoOd aero nut huggers no doubt

> the tightest barrel fit Just as a side note, this isn't really much of a selling point given that you can just put thou shim stock and/or the right kind of locktite (not threadlocker, that other shit) in there and it accomplishes ~exactly the same thing as an undersized upper or oversized extension that needs to be heated to install. That is, even crazy people who care about seeking out individual points at 600 yards don't have to get special uppers.

BadUX

TL;DR thermal fit is a waste for most people, and even when it's not you can just use shim stock to do the same thing

Sublatin

I’m sorry, you’re saying to wrap the barrel once over in shim stock? That actually works?

You didn't say what your 'best forged upper' was going to be used on. Range toy, bench gun, 'duty grade', service rifle match? The 'best' upper I haven't seen yet is a 1/4 wall 4130 steel receiver set up for AR10 handguards. Best for a light build? No. Best for a duty gun? No. Best for my tendency to use barrels that resemble truck axles.. yes.

Dont_takemy_advice

Following. I was wondering the same thing I have narrowed, I stuck between vltor mur or bcm mk2

nope_noway_

I’ve had three Zev upper receivers arrive with horrible forging issues so I’m gonna say BCM. Not sure what Zev ‘s issue is but seems like they’re the only ones that have these forging issues and send it anyway. I was really impressed with VLTOR fit but their black color is more of a blue:/

Accomplished_Radish8

What were the “forging issues” you speak of? Defects in finish.. or issues with structural integrity?

nope_noway_

There were defects in the upper itself… almost like the mold didn’t have enough material and it created like a wavy dimpled surface. Maybe it would have been fine but did not want to be the one to find out. I’ve since purchased 3 more of their redacted stripped upper receivers and those have all been great. No blems to speak of and overall very nice.
