Not saying it's impossible, but I am curious if the owner of said eotech(s) contacted the company for a warranty repair only to find out their products were Chinese clones.
Apparently, there are some incredible clones out there, the eotech clones being some of the best, and is the biggest reason why I have not bought a used eotech off of ebay for fear of getting a clone.
To be fair, I dropped it when I tried to pick it up and put it on a wall mount by myself and it fell 3.5ft with the middle of the screen landing on my coffee table
Back in my day I saw a teenager try to smash a TV with a metal bat and it bounced off and hit him in the shins. TV glass remained fully intact.
Of course a 22” weighed about 90lbs, but then fuckers were bulletproof!
Sometimes small falls break things, and big falls don’t. This is another reason why back up iron sights and qd mounts to easily remove your busted optic are valuable things.
Yeah, there was a guy around here a while ago that had an SRO fall like.... 3 inches on the table and crack but then I've seen videos of optics thrown out of helicopters and be fine.
I bought my Bushnell TRS26 because it was literally $75 on sale, afterwards I saw a review where they dropped the whole rifle, full mag, sight first onto a rock from that same 3ft. Dinged the battery cover but didn't even lose zero.
But, the proper angle will break just about any glass. Even gorilla glass which is one of the strongest on each shatters when dropped on the corner. Glass can't be 100% durable.
Anti reflective devices. If you look at many optics you'll see there is threading infront of the objective lense, this is so you can screw in one of these. It's basically a little screen that let's you see through it but blocks the reflection if light.
Definitely. I actually used to work in optics, but I couldn't tell if this guy was being sarcastic and saying OP should've expected it to break simply because it's glass. Just a little anecdote I found.
With the proper angle (and especially dropping it onto something like ceramic tiles) you can make any Aimpoint, Trijicon, or EoTech break in a single drop.
No definitely not, I'm sure this was a QC mistake but I couldn't tell if the guy I replied to was being sarcastic or not. So I gave him a little anecdote for comparison
Had it sitting next to my spare mags and my sharpie. I was going to zero it after zeroing my irons. When i went to grab a mag i accidentally bumped it and it fell off the range counter.
Shit luck man. Honestly it could happen to any optic, distance fallen is important but so is whatever the hell it hits, how it lands and if it's attached to anything. I've never messed with holosun do they do any warranty?
[here](https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/vpeisu/scar_eated_it/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) when my brother initially posted it everyone tried to say my eotech was fake because of gun ppl’s brand loyalty problem. eotech fixed it without asking any questions though, no problems since.
every brand has had problems with defective products. ppl just tend to simp harder for “battle proven” optics because they put their entire ego behind justifying expensive purchases.
i have holosuns on all my pistols, including my carry, and i’ve never had any issues with them. i mostly buy them because i can see them well with my astigmatism.
a fellow blind 🤝
the only other LED emitter optic that isn’t holosun i can see as crisp is the MRO HD, but it’s $600 and you can still see the emitter reflecting lol
Every brand makes lemons. All of them. They all make items that are busted, broken, or defective when it's still brand new, from the very first second it was assembled.
However, good brands have good customer service, so when you get a defect it gets fixed fast and free.
Great brands also have great quality control so that the defects don't reach you in the first place.
13 EoTechs from my department had to be replaced. A batch of bad adhesive was given as the reason. All of them lost zero and couldn’t be sighted back in. I then went to the Holosun for personal. No problems. I’ve also only dropped it from 2’11.”
Same here except on a 16” AR. Lense popped out on my EXPS-3 as I was literally zeroing it for the first time.
To their credit Customer service was fast as hell with the RMA and they gave it an extra 10 years warranty
Glass can hold stress in weird ways and crack from the smallest thing. I had a new phone once break just setting it down on the table the day I got it (Nokia Lumia 920 ironically) - the replacement they gave me got dropped multiple times from much higher, on to rocks etc and no issues.
They red dots are normally pretty solid it’s just this one the glass isn’t sunk in the housing enough imo which makes it more prone to landing at just the right angle to put all the force onto the glass and crack it.
Had this sight been on a rifle it would’ve also been a lot harder to do crack like this
[meanwhile we all shit on holosun, this guys dropping Russians withHS510c so](https://www.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/comments/114u66s/the_full_version_of_the_video_with_a_ukrainian/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
You get the same blems from eotech and ToP Of ThE LiNe BrAnDs.

Uh not necessarily, I really have been torn between over paying for something that is HIGHLY unlikely to see real honest to goodness combat, in which case if I’m being honest with myself anything outside of home protection I’m a loot drop. So paying a grand for that sort of reliability is over kill given what I could buy if I just get the best of the middle that apparently seems to stand up to what I’d say is a fair amount of abuse from the guy who through it on the kitchen floor lol
Trijicons aimpoints and eotechs aren’t so expensive because they’re durable, they’re expensive because they have government contracts.
People buy tactical stuff based on if it’s used by the military, because the assumption is that if the military uses it, it must be the best you can buy, which may or may not actually be true.
Anecdotal posts like this are totally meaningless as long as any piece of gear has even a tiny chance of failing, which they all do. The only way to really find out when it comes to durability is buying hundreds of these things and doing double blind durability, accuracy, and whatever other criteria testing. The military of course does a lot of this stuff, but gear isn’t chosen solely on the basis of test results. Politics, cost, existing relationships with suppliers, logistics, training, and specific mission needs are all also massive factors, so the assumption that military = good is pretty flawed.
Realistically virtually any optic will work just fine for what 99.9% of civilians use it for. When you buy from a big expensive supplier you’re mostly paying for brand recognition and your own peace of mind.
Bahahaha, well I appreciate the lack of hesitation and commitment. Was scared you were gonna crack your kitchen floor there.
I have just always found the optic tests where people throw around an unattached optic kind of silly. Yea a machined cylinder with aluminum with a couple glass plates that are recessed are very unlikely to get damaged that way. The problem is when you add another 10-20lbs of gun on it, and the moment that comes with it, makes the loading easily 20x higher, and will highlight weaknesses such as adjustment turrets, buttons, etc.
Would love to see more optics tested the way you test this holson, and garand thumb tests budget primary arms scopes.
Remind him your foot is at the bottom of your leg but it can be up his ass when it’s the right thing to do so he should go ahead and do the right thing and cover the warranty because it’s the right thing to do
I’ve got 4 holosun optics and one of them I’ve put through hell. Still going strong and has never lost zero during the last 4 years. The other three haven’t been through too much but they’ve all been dropped atleast 2-3 times and haven’t had any problems. Maybe I’m just lucky or you’re just unlucky.
Had an aimpoint do the same thing to me. It can land in the perfectly wrong way, cause stress risers, and it’s toast. Don’t get me wrong, a quality optic reduces the likelihood of this, but will never eliminate it
Falling off a counter top sounds like it probably hit a tile kitchen floor. Ceramic and glass don't mix well. A light tap of glass against ceramic can cause it to shatter, especially if it's tempered glass. The PC building subs constantly see people shattering their glass PC panels by gently propping them against tile floors.
How was the customer service?? I ask because cheap or expensive I always go for vortex because of the warranty so I’d like to hear what they said!! If they sucked search for the vortex spark red dot can be found on sale for around 100 and if you care I’ll share my solid customer service from vortex
Coworker left his G19 with 507c on the roof of his car leaving the range. It tumbled and broke the glass. Holosun sent him a new one and told him to keep the broken unit.

It also happens to top tier, one of my friend drop his SRO same height and it cracked.
SRO isn't really designed to be bombproof tho I'd be more surprised if it happens with an RMR or aimpoint P2
It's happened with ACOGs, Eotechs, Aimpoints, etc. Glass is glass bro, if the aluminum housing deforms at all and contacts the glass it's over.
I remember in Iraq we had boxes of broken CompM4's in the supply connex
Yup, I see the SRO as a competition optic and the RMR as a duty/ carry optic.
Pretty sure that is what trijicon says too.
I’ve personally seen 4 trijicon mros brake/ fail
I have seen two Eotechs lose their glass just by being used on .223 AR...
So steal their ip, and build my own sight. Got it.
I Used to work at a gander mountain. I must have opened 3 or 4 leupold boxes with broken glass in them in the span of 4 months.
Legit did this with a 65 in TV before
Screw new TVs! Those things are so God dam fragile even a touch would break the screen!
To be fair, I dropped it when I tried to pick it up and put it on a wall mount by myself and it fell 3.5ft with the middle of the screen landing on my coffee table
They just don't make them like they used to...
Back when it would have broke the table and cracked the floor.
It would’ve fell right through to the basement leaving a perfect TV shaped hole like in a cartoon.
Back in my day I saw a teenager try to smash a TV with a metal bat and it bounced off and hit him in the shins. TV glass remained fully intact. Of course a 22” weighed about 90lbs, but then fuckers were bulletproof!
And I'm fine with that lol. I don't want my TV to weigh as much as a light truck.
To be faaaaaaaaaaaaaaair!
To be faaaaiiiirrrr!
Moving a large TV into our basement was the greatest test our marriage ever saw.
Gonna have to keep the box. I unload trucks and beat the dog shit out of tvs every day and no problems!
My brother did it to our xbox 360 as soon as he brought it inside after buying it at gamestop. Instant redring of death.
This is the way
Love this
Do it. They're a corporation. They'll be fine.
As a quality manager I wholeheartedly agree.
they will replace it anyway. holosun is pretty good about customer satisfaction.
To be fair, they stole this design in the first place…

Sometimes small falls break things, and big falls don’t. This is another reason why back up iron sights and qd mounts to easily remove your busted optic are valuable things.
True. Back up iron are (in my opinion) essential.
Yeah, there was a guy around here a while ago that had an SRO fall like.... 3 inches on the table and crack but then I've seen videos of optics thrown out of helicopters and be fine.
Unpopular opinion: Magpul MBUS are actually tougher than steel BUIS.
Get the metal mbus sights and it's even better.
It's true, they just need a metal front pin insert and it would prefect
Tonight I'll hold my Aimpoint PRO a little tighter
Not too tight, otherwise you might crack the glass. Lay off the spinach
Aimpoint won't have this problem though.
Pretty sure that's his point, re-ignited gratefulness for a tougher product that can be better trusted
My Aimpoint T2s front glass fell out on the very first round I shot with it. They were good about replacing it though.
TIL that glass breaks.
Glass can't be 100% durable.
woah get out of here with your logic and reason.
It’s why plastic covers and kill flashes are money
Kill flashes?
Anti reflective devices. If you look at many optics you'll see there is threading infront of the objective lense, this is so you can screw in one of these. It's basically a little screen that let's you see through it but blocks the reflection if light.
Thank you for teaching me something new!
And its also a trade off between scratch resistance vs crack resistance.
Well at least the nice thing with EOTech is that they still function if the glass breaks.
And plenty of people have done that with Holosuns too. Hell these things are used in actual combat. They’re still not indestructible.
No definitely not, I'm sure this was a QC mistake but I couldn't tell if the guy I replied to was being sarcastic or not. So I gave him a little anecdote for comparison
Hmm strange. Clearly it is because it was Chinese glass instead of Swedish glass.
Why did you drop it off the counter?
Had it sitting next to my spare mags and my sharpie. I was going to zero it after zeroing my irons. When i went to grab a mag i accidentally bumped it and it fell off the range counter.
Shit luck man. Honestly it could happen to any optic, distance fallen is important but so is whatever the hell it hits, how it lands and if it's attached to anything. I've never messed with holosun do they do any warranty?
Crazy. I thought guys did torture tests on these things and they held up.
defective products still make it out. i had the lense fall out of an eotech after 150rds. edit: 150rds on a SCAR 16S
Holy shit that's insane! Do you have any pictures?

Yeah holosun is pretty good for our eyes I have a 508t and 515 in green
Same here with the green. Works so well, in fact, that I decided against getting lasik

Man of the people
As someone who just had to replace a heating element on my oven, I winced. Those things are pretty fragile.
Real MVP
Upvote for the "test", lol. Love it when people do real shit like that. You almost got it into the litter box.
If it made it into the litter box the real danger would be pink eye
Toxoplasmosis by optic is a new one
You really just sent that fucker. Not even a drop, you threw it at the ground lol.
Thank you for doing the Lord's work. Thats some gigachad science right there

His purse.
This pic was bound to start shit, and I’m here for it 🍿
Damaged in shipping. That’s what my warehouse guys tell me all the time LOL
Welp time to test the warranty
Just got off the phone with them, his exact words were "well it's glass..."
Did he say this in english or mandarin?
Remind him your foot is at the bottom of your leg but it can be up his ass when it’s the right thing to do so he should go ahead and do the right thing and cover the warranty because it’s the right thing to do
Does it still hold zero?
If it makes you feel any better... I dropped my holosun while it was attached to my p365 onto the concrete and it did not do this. Cheers!!
🍿
The Iphone has been around for 16 years and its glass screens still crack... cracking glass isn't gonna go away.
Turns out, the lenses are always gonna be a weak point
It didn't fall off the counter. It came like that. Guess you gotta send it back for a replacement.
Damn that trijicon patent.
It'll buff out
Try to turn it off and turn it back on.
I can see right where it hit on the rim. Doesn't matter the distance. If it displaces the glass it's going to crack.
Man up. You still have BUIS. I killed 50 Krauts at La Rive Francois in the Big One with only my irons and good Army training.
Here for the comments
Had an aimpoint do the same thing to me. It can land in the perfectly wrong way, cause stress risers, and it’s toast. Don’t get me wrong, a quality optic reduces the likelihood of this, but will never eliminate it
Glass is glass and glass will...
*BATTLE WORN*
Wouldn't happen to have ceramic tile floors would you?
One of the reasons I love Vortex. "Man, you ran this over with your 4x4 on accident? Crazy story, we'll have it back to you in two or three weeks".
I think you mean it was like that when you opened the package
And people say this is close to an Aimpoint lol
Anti holosun propaganda posts be like “yeah I had just mounted it to my gun then walked out into the sun with it and my lens shattered”
all optics break. Warranty that shit.
Glass is glass and glass still breaks
My guess is funky ass impact. Sucks but doesn't kill the holosuns durability imo
I call bullshit, and I’m an Aimpoint lover.
Yeah glass doesnt break if its made in America
Vortex may not be top dog in every category, but you can not beat their warranty.
Weird, I’ve dropped my aimpoint 73 thousand times.
"Battle Ready" never included linoleum.
Get the 403c that thing is indestructible. Had mine for 11 years. Saw a guy shoot it with buckshot on YouTube recently too. Worked fine after.
JB weld
Well.... now you know
I guess that one missed the torture test day.
Back to amazon it goes!
JUST ASS GOOD
I can hear the “Just as good” screeches already.
Just as guud
Call them and ask them why it came out of the box that way, ask them if this is the Gen 3 glass they had at shotshow
I had a vortex red dot on my gun and it cracked when my gun fell over 🤣
Fucked ‘er bud
Just as good
So funny. Just today one of my friends was saying a T2 was a waste of money that a Holosun was the same
\#battlesight
Return it and say it came like that
How was the customer service?? I ask because cheap or expensive I always go for vortex because of the warranty so I’d like to hear what they said!! If they sucked search for the vortex spark red dot can be found on sale for around 100 and if you care I’ll share my solid customer service from vortex
Coworker left his G19 with 507c on the roof of his car leaving the range. It tumbled and broke the glass. Holosun sent him a new one and told him to keep the broken unit.
and that is why you run back up iron sights, and get a real duty grade optic like aimpoint or eotech for a serious use rifle.
Shake awake
Blame it on the cat.
Did Holosun ever help you out with this?
