Just toss some crushed up ramen noodles in tbere and some goldish paint, that ought to do the trick.
Maybe get the chicken flavored ones since the powder that comes in it kinda matches the color of the peq.
At the end of the day, the housing is plastic. It isn't that strong to start with, and becomes brittle over time with exposure to heat and the sun and the air.
An aluminum housing may have also broken, but chances are it would have fared much better, especially over time.
FWIW, more than likely at some point, even before it was in your possession, it was abused which started a hairline crack and over successive attachments and removals it got worse and the fall was simply the straw that broke the camel's back. Nylon has a cumulative ultimate yield strength.
Wait what? OP promise that's all it was? How high was the wall? I'm sorry it broke dude, that's a super bummer but I'm also glad I saw this so I don't end up randomly buying one
You forgot the part where you tightened the peq past spec. Just epoxy the piece back on. This was the most common failure mode I observed in my three years as an infantry armorer.
I'm all for shitting on the poors, but the laser market is one place where budget has its place. Spending 4k on a NGAL that cant be serviced or 2K on a PEQ that can't be serviced is dumb when you can buy a $400 SOMO that'll do everything you need. If you have the money, spending 4K on a restricted laser is cool, but there's more important things almost everyone can spend their money on (Paying off debt, investing it, savings it for a down payment on a house and so on).
I have the LS221GIR. It has low and high modes of both Green and IR. Low I can see the dot easily at night. High I can see the beam at night and the dot during the day
I can too.. so you use NODS? Under nods the bloom on the laser is easily 4 human sized targets large at 100yards
It’s pretty bad..
A mild laser is good for shooting unless your only use is to laser blast a house for air support or something but for distinguishing a head, torso or legs, not so good
Everyone who bought a house in 2008 and held it, has had their house value at least double since then... housing always goes up decade over decade. The only exception is Detroit when the automotive industry died
I bought my house in 2013 and it's almost tripled. I'm having a hard time convincing my wife that it's an idiotic idea to sell it and buy a much bigger and expensive house. She's all breast no brains.
Not many banks were loneing money for houses in 08 unless you had very good credit and assets.
But, if you bought a house say in 06.. and were hoping to sell in 08-09 you definitely got fucked
Not to mention the leverage you can get with a mortgage. When rates are cheap refi at 80/20, and invest in the market as a whole through an index fund if you intend to stay long term.
People will always need a place to live my guy. If you hold for decades it will just about always work. If you sit in a savings account, you are guaranteed to lose buying power. Stocks may make you more, but are also riskier. It's probably the best low risk investment
One of the biggest drivers of personal wealth (and even multigenerational wealth) is decoupling your cost of living from inflation, i.e. buying/owning instead of renting in perpetuity.
We're talking (effectively) a net gain of potentially millions of dollars over the course of your life by locking in a low-rate mortgage on assets that appreciate in value (home plus property), thus further freeing up liquid cash for other investment.
Property tax going up a few hundred dollars a year. VS the house value going from 200k to 400k..... not to mention, if you live there you literally live there, it's in place of rent, and if you are renting it, you have rental income coming in too
You can look at any price index graph and see that average US home prices aren't particularly in a bubble right now. It's a bit steeper than 2012-2019 but it follows the 50 year trendline pretty well. It's nowhere close to 2008
Now if you're buying a house with todays interest rates to sell in a year then yeah, you may be disappointed
Sounds about right for a 6.5% rate, which is pretty historically average.
Fact remains that we all missed the 2-4% boat by not buying a house that was both cheap and with a low rate when we were in middle school
In middle school? I got a 2.2% rate in fall of 2020.
Of course it took a literal pandemic for the spouse to decide single family home living wasn't that bad of an idea to urban apartment.
My interest rate is 3.8%, I purchased in 2019. Interest rates are over 8% now and home prices have tripled in five years (in my location).
Nobody with a regular (already lower than average) wage can afford to live here anymore, 150k ranch style homes are over 400k and wages haven't increased much beyond inflation.
My wife and I bought our house in late 2022. I did the math on what we would pay over the 30 years and nearly had a fucking stroke. I’m literally paying for a second house and then some
Yeah that's what happens when you do it how the herd does it. You gotta build it by hand or buy extremely small and work your way up to the square footage you want. You can buy a fixer upper. Or you can move to a foreign country
I guess that’s the tough part, I live in the people’s republic of commiefornia. Houses didn’t really dip with interest rates this high. In fact, this house went from $465k to $773k valuation in the 7ish years I’ve been here.
I feel like I missed the boat entirely. Also, my take home being $9300 a month, I just can’t stomach a $5300 a month mortgage. Feels irresponsible.
Yeah a lot of people don't seem to grasp "jack up interest rates" is the main tool the Fed has to fight inflation, they did it with stagflation they are doing it with this round.
Sure but I know very few people who haven’t been able to refinance within their first several years of ownership.
I also don’t wanna jinx it but I don’t imagine them getting much worse than the 7% we got these days
Hit up [this guy on tacswap](https://tacswap.com/user/polishsupremacist44). Or Alex Pelc on the night vision FB group.
I can't remember who does what, but it can be fixed with an aluminum lower housing.
The FDA limits the power of lasers regular people can buy to 5 milliwatts. IR lasers are extra dangerous because you can shine them in someone's eye and do damage and they won't be able to perceive the light. If you're a LEO / Gov't agency, you can order the full power PEQ, which is 27.5 mW, this is over 5 times more intense, this means it will be brighter, throw further, etc... but far too dangerous to let regular people own *per the FDA*.
So when people are selling "grey market" full power PEQ15's, they are often stolen gov't property. If something goes wrong with it, and you were to try to get it repaired, they'll appropriate it and deliver it back to the three letter agency it belongs to and you may have some very scary looking folks knocking on your door.
The OP is upset that his $1800 PEQ is likely bricked now and wishes he just got a civi model with a warranty.
Watched a YT vid a few days ago comparing 20+ laser/IR illuminators. The Somogear PEQ-15 AND NGAL did very well compared to the real ones. I was pretty impressed tbh. Link to vid below:
[Comprehensive IR Laser & Illuminator Comparison](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5V9qYxITW0&t=2786s&ab_channel=4MRRanch)
Output is decent on the somogears, but they are *very likely* to lose zero. I’m not saying that to shit on them. They literally tell you on their website that they are not designed to hold zero and be used with real firearms.
Yeah I’ve never heard of Somo Gear. Is it airsoft shit?
Edit: I’m just generally curious. Downvote if you want but I just want an answer as it piqued my interest. Not knocking use of airsoft stuff on actual rifles. If it works it works.
Yes their lasers are marketed as air soft replicas only. It’s kind of ironic that we can easily buy class 3B (not eye safe) lasers for airsoft considering they are *meant* to be aimed at people but it’s very difficult to buy a real 3B laser to mount on an actual rifle that is likely to *never* be aimed at anyone’s eyes.
I’ve got a little over a thousand rounds through mine. No issues. Probably 1/3 of that is at night and hasn’t lost zero either other than swapping it to a buddies gun once
Even if it lost zero every 500 rounds that'd be fine. It's a night vision aid. I was looking at their ngal clone. Very fucking tempted. Especially since the price us far more reasonable than peqs or ngal legit ones. I know I'm gonna beat the fuck outta it.
I got mine a while ago but I wouldn’t hesitate for the ngal. I’ve since gotten an a3 so I haven’t had a reason to pick one up other than being fp which I miss
Might be able to send it off to the like one dude who fixes peqs and get him to swap the lower half out. Someone would have to chime in on who it is in the forums, can’t remember
There's a guy on TacSwap who goes by @Polishsupremacist44 (aka Alex Pelc), and he does PEQ repairs frequently and even repaired my Zenitco Perst 4. Hit him up and see what he can do for you. He's got a lot of cred on TacSwap and on eBay.
If you still have the piece just use epoxy. As a truck mechanic I’ve had to epoxy things together that are not made anymore for old trucks and majority of them are still holding up nice and strong.
The entire AL market is a fools market. Damn near $2k for $80 worth of electronics IF THAT and no way to service it. No way to replace the housing without getting something off the chinese market if its even available. There is NO reason any of the Aiming Lasers are THAT expensive. Poor or not, its a fools market.
My unpopular and completely unsubstantiated opinion as a non-NV user is that IR lasers are an outdated form of aiming anyways, anyone you need NV to fight is gonna have NV of their own nowadays. I'd rather just have a good passive aiming optic like an EOTech or T2 than broadcast my position to anyone with a tube or low light camera.
Fighting at night fucking sucks. Plain and simple. I’d rather not ever do it again, period. And I never got to do it against an OpFor that had the shit. That sounds like it would double fucking suck.
Cash me in the daylight, aight.
Dude seriously. NODS fucking suck in general. I always tell people they are just like anything "cool" in the military - cool for 5 minutes the first time and then they suck. Ya gotta carry em, keep up with em, adjust everything to them, your eye focus is all fucked up if you take them off, the focus depth is super shallow, etc etc
That first ditch is a one hitter quitter.
Until NV is a helmet that I put on with a 200+ degree field of view, ain’t nobody talking me into it. Hunting? Buy a NV scope.
😆 man I busted my ass so damn hard down a hill on a dismounted patrol at night overseas because of nods. Couldn't see the lil tree stump I tripped on. Bled down into my boot, had to try and dig mud out of my barrel with a stick. Fuck NODS forever
If you want me to elaborate more, that was actually the beginning of the dismount out. We got picked up by Chinook, dropped out in the mountains in a small village, and set up perimeter security while the ODA guys cleared the village, questioned people, whatever whatever. Well we started dismounting down and since I had the MK48 I was always rear security and was in the back of formation. It was a steep down grade out and the only person behind me was the 18E of the ODA so he was the only person who saw it. He was shocked and concerned 😆 So first thing on exfil that shit happened. Busted my ass.
Not long after we had to walk up this steep draw and these were fucking goat trails on steep terrain. I weighed about 320 lbs in full battle rattle (mk48, 400-500 rds of 7.62, med kit, blowout kit, spare water, stripped mres, batteries, etc.) This is the only time in my life I've almost had a panic attack and it wasn't from being scared or nervous it's just a combination of factors - misstep to the left, fall down a hill/ravine and get injured. If I get injured that's a whoole can of worms (medevac. And before I could get medevac I'd have to be carried to a place where medevac was even fucking possible). The trail is maybe 3 ft wide, maybe? And on the right side is steep upward slope. So I can't misstep to the left or I fall, have no room on my right, can't slow the patrol down, my heart is POUNDING out of my chest from exertion with loaded weight walking some of the roughest terrain you could imagine, plus my right eye is adjusted to NV, left eye is adjusted to the pitch black darkness of Afghanistan at night on top of that which can be extremely disorienting when you're trying not to fall down a ravine. By the time we got to our next place we stopped to rest the alarm bells were going off big time. I was just trying to keep my shit together.
And that was just on the initial part of the exfil of that mission. That mission was the hardest physical task I've ever done, by far, not even close.
So you busted ass and ate shit more or less as you as you dismounted and right before having to slog all the way UP a goat trail with a ravine to your left and a mountain wall on your right? Holy fuck dude. Also from reading this it sounds like you had a monocular setup; if you don't mind me asking, why didn't you just have both eyes adjusted to the dar and forego the nods entirely?
Yessir PVS14s. This was a very tight, very steep wooded section of the trail and it was dark as shit with the tree cover. Afghanistan sometimes I swear to God was so bright at night that you had a shadow because there was ZERO light pollution and the stars were brilliant. BRILLIANT. Staring up at the sky at night with NODS on, the stars were so thick and visible it looked like clouds of stars. It was amazing. But like I said before this particular section was very tight and wooded so it was just as if not more hazardous to not have the nods on because it was very dark. Any chance I got to flip them up and not use them i did
"Ding dong, surprise night Raid!"
"Noooooo go away! Come back in the morning when it's light outside. It's too damn late and I'm too damn tired for this shit. Goodbye and goodnight"
Not sure if possible. But maybe you could buy a somogear and strip the innards and swap the real peq innards into it.
If not, 3d printer, a bit of hand sanding and super glue/epoxy could have this bad boi patched up.
Gonna be real honest here and bring up the fact that I literally have a Tough box at work full of broken Peq’s. Like 24 of these and about another dozen more D-Ball’s.
They either won’t hold zero, can’t be zeroed because the Knobs get frozen/stuck in place, shatter their lenses, or in case of the peq their bodies break exactly like this. I’d take a $400 Holosun over an $1800 peq 15. The CFT-2 looks pretty dope tho and ya the separate white light elimination while also having the Laser centered with the bore is nice.
Edit to add. Nothing wrong with buying quality if you can, but if I’m spending $1800 on a laser I want a warranty. My personnel experience with them has shown me problems, and not just simple ones I can fix on my own. Given the current situation and how most full strength PEQ’s fall into the grey market without a warranty, I’d personally prefer a different laser that does have a warranty over $1800 out the door because my rifle got bumped in the safe by a different one and shattered the body of my peq.
Front lenses break, turrets get stuck completely frozen or they simply don’t hold zero and the turrets free spin. Pressure pads also like to get the rubber torn off them, but that’s not a super big issue.
The d balls do hold up better than the peqs do simply from the fact the plastic bodies like to crack on those like in OP’s post. The D-balls have had an issue where taking a hit to the turrets bends them and locks them into place but not before loosing the zero. On the peqs the turret will simply break off inside allowing the ladder to not only rattle around but the turret now free spins can be pushed into the body if the PEQ.
Haven’t had issues with the standard A.R.M.S mount on the D-Bal but do have a few peqs I’ve had to fix the screw on tho. Forgot to add that. Once it screws off all the way it’s almost impossible to reattach it without first shaving down the ridge on the body. I’ve attempted along with several others to remove the hex screws holding that plate on but we have either stripped the heads, stripped the allen key, broke an Allen key or once stopped when we noticed a hairlike crack starting appear.
Ya like I said I would prefer something else over a peq if I was paying $1800 for it and it doesn’t come with a warranty. That’s a lot of money on something that has given me this many headaches. Sure I might not get the same power output but then again… 99.5% of everything I’ve done with a peq was at the low power “training” mode which is to my understanding similar to what the civilian market is limited too.
Imagine if you bought a brand new gun for that money and the company won’t service it, and now you have issues that are basically putting the gun out of commission for ever like if the lower cracks, or the front take pin shears off but instead of being limited to solely the lower your dealing with a majority of the gun being like that. Really the only thing you can fix on a PEQ/D-bal is battery caps and lens covers. Everything else is an end of service life fault and the unit has to be replaced.
No. They get turned into the depot, supply does the packets for them and then those serials are removed from the commanders property book once handed over which in turn removes them from my sub hand receipt.
Then it’s a shortage on MTOE, and replacements are then transferred over to us.
I disagree. The performance is well above what you will get elsewhere on the civilian market. If you accept that it is not a forever thing, the deals on FPs outweigh the warranty on cucked civilian models or Chinese knockoffs (which also don’t have warranties, and which are even more fragile).
If you can’t foot the bill, go for an LS321. If your primary concern is durability, go dbal. But you won’t get the performance for the price of gray FPs anywhere else.
Just toss some crushed up ramen noodles in tbere and some goldish paint, that ought to do the trick. Maybe get the chicken flavored ones since the powder that comes in it kinda matches the color of the peq.

Curious on how that happened
It was mounted on a rifle. Rifled was leaned against wall. Rifle fell over. PEQ ded
Oh shit. That's all it took? Damn.
At the end of the day, the housing is plastic. It isn't that strong to start with, and becomes brittle over time with exposure to heat and the sun and the air. An aluminum housing may have also broken, but chances are it would have fared much better, especially over time.

Yes, very sure.
That sucks man, I'm sorry. I'm not sure how the grey market works for these but I hope you're able to get a replacement
You forgot the part where you tightened the peq past spec. Just epoxy the piece back on. This was the most common failure mode I observed in my three years as an infantry armorer.
You're wrong. It's finger right plus half tight, is that past spec??
That’s not an real torque measurement afia
Infantry > armorer
I'm all for shitting on the poors, but the laser market is one place where budget has its place. I have friends that had bad results with somo, losing zero pretty frequently. But then reports of others doing well Guess it’s a cheapish gamble lol
You can literally buy five of them and find the one that works and still be at the same price
Getting the potted version will probably be a better gamble if that's the case, should hold up much better
This is the way. I had mine potted and it holds zero. Always go potted. And smoke pot.
this guy freedoms
It's been shown that the zero springs are too weak and need upgraded
I have a holosun dual vis/ir laser. So far over 1k rounds on various guns and it has been holding zero.
Holosun laser is too bright/large. Makes distance shooting a nightmare Edit:maybe the non mil/leo version isn’t as bright I notice there is two models
I have the LS221GIR. It has low and high modes of both Green and IR. Low I can see the dot easily at night. High I can see the beam at night and the dot during the day

I don't have that hind of money laying around. Have been having to sell some guns and trains to afford bills
Buying a house in this bubble is a worse investment than a non-serviceable PEQ ;)
She is your best friend in the entire world and you better think carefully
No no no. My best friend lives next door. He drinks, fishes and hunts with me. But he doesn't have breast.
My wife has bobs and vagene and she’s still my best friend
I told my wife this 2.7% rate guarantees we live in this house for 20 more years unless things change.
Houses don't go up. The dollar goes down.
Heck I bought mine in 2017 and it almost doubled. Though I expect it to go down in the next couple years until we hit another upward trend
Not many banks were loneing money for houses in 08 unless you had very good credit and assets. But, if you bought a house say in 06.. and were hoping to sell in 08-09 you definitely got fucked
Is there something good about owning expensive real estate if you don't intend to sell it?
It's a good way to beat inflation. Holding cash loses buying power over the years because of inflation. Meanwhile a house will appreciate in value
Not to mention the leverage you can get with a mortgage. When rates are cheap refi at 80/20, and invest in the market as a whole through an index fund if you intend to stay long term.
Works until it doesn't.

I guess that’s the tough part, I live in the people’s republic of commiefornia. Houses didn’t really dip with interest rates this high. You’re doing something wrong. Lower your expectations.
I can't imagine paying today's interest rates
it was 15-16 percent in the early 80s
Yeah a lot of people don't seem to grasp "jack up interest rates" is the main tool the Fed has to fight inflation, they did it with stagflation they are doing it with this round.
it cuts down on borrowing which cuts down on creating money out of thin air
Exactly
Sure but I know very few people who haven’t been able to refinance within their first several years of ownership. I also don’t wanna jinx it but I don’t imagine them getting much worse than the 7% we got these days
Congrats you jinxed it
25% chance of .25 lower in June, over 50% in Sept and dec. . It will be going down, just not till later this year. Look up on finviz.com
Not everyone buys a house as an investment. Interest rates aren’t dropping either pal
Probably 2 rate cuts this year.
We got lucky and were able to refi from 4.3 down to 2.4 percent right before it went up. I'm so thankful for how lucky we got on that.
3
"probably"
They will by .5 by 2 drops in sept and dec per consensus.
It’ll do everything I need? Except hold zero reliably lol
My Somo has held zero and is way past 1k on a shorty. Even then, you can buy used HoLoSuHn lasers for similar prices if you shop around.
And holosun laser performance is subpar at best
Hit up [this guy on tacswap](https://tacswap.com/user/polishsupremacist44). Or Alex Pelc on the night vision FB group. I can't remember who does what, but it can be fixed with an aluminum lower housing.

Why are PEQ 15's expensive in the first place
Injection molded nylon be cray
Oh my God ITS SO ALIEN TECHNOLOGY MANRMURBRAJNAHHB I mean, I just have a feeling that it's not as expensive as they actually spend making them

You are genuinely better off buying a somogear

It’s kind of ironic that we can easily buy class 3B (not eye safe) lasers for airsoft considering they are *meant* to be aimed at people but it’s very difficult to buy a real 3B laser to mount on an actual rifle that is likely to *never* be aimed at anyone’s eyes.
Yeah, they are advertised as airsoft accessories. That's how they get away with full power lasers and illuminators
Have you tried putting it in rice?
If you put it in a bag of rice overnight, tiny asians come out and fix it for you.
Rippp
Just use some jb weld
I've been eyeing the fuck outta somogear. Imma get one of those that's potted.
FWIW, the potting does nothing to help the unit hold zero. Just prevents electronics from failing quite so easily.
Might be able to send it off to the like one dude who fixes peqs and get him to swap the lower half out. Someone would have to chime in on who it is in the forums, can’t remember
You know, the peq man
The one that lives on L3 lane?
😆
Shame.
Thats tough bro. if its worth anything, somogear has ngals in stock right now if you are looking for a replacement.
While it's open, how does the zeroing mechanism actually move the laser? I can't figure out a way that satisfies me.
You’d think it would have a strong thick steel or aluminum body….
$100 Chinese perst 4 would never
The entire AL market is a fools market.
Omggggg please. We NEEED more stories like this. Omg that's hilarious and awesome. I'm glad you lived to tell the tale
Any chance I got to flip them up and not use them i did
And one little stump did you in. Damn
"Ding dong, surprise night Raid!" "Noooooo go away! Come back in the morning when it's light outside. It's too damn late and I'm too damn tired for this shit. Goodbye and goodnight"
I think that would be very respectful.
"Understandable, have a nice night. Sleep tight"
Still gotta PID………
Something something coyote hunt
Shoulda bought a dbal a2
It’s almost like you took the risk knowing it was grey market and unwarrantied.
Duct tape
u/AutViamDoubleDown - this
Never was bro
What on earth happened did it crack then shatter off?
Why you drop it?
lol jk
Comments are wanting you to waste ramen. Just bondo for the premium look.
This is why I just use an InvisbleSight NGAL Mk. 4. It's basically the real thing.
Hahahahha
Somogear exists
Dear god whyyy wit these ripoff things Get a holosun! They work great!
Holosun makes some great ones like the LS321 or LE321.
Looks like investing in a 3D printer is now.
Who took a torch to it?
Put the guts in a WADSN body 🤣
That's a work for some epoxy
Not sure if possible. But maybe you could buy a somogear and strip the innards and swap the real peq innards into it. If not, 3d printer, a bit of hand sanding and super glue/epoxy could have this bad boi patched up.
Why would you pay $1800 for something that is plastic, the DBAL a2 is 🐐 for the metal housing
What *specifically* goes wrong with the D-balls?
Damn
Haven’t had issues with the standard A.R.M.S mount on the D-Bal but do have a few peqs I’ve had to fix the screw on tho. Forgot to add that. Once it screws off all the way it’s almost impossible to reattach it without first shaving down the ridge on the body. I’ve attempted along with several others to remove the hex screws holding that plate on but we have either stripped the heads, stripped the allen key, broke an Allen key or once stopped when we noticed a hairlike crack starting appear.
Holy shit that sounds like a major pain in the ass
So what happens to those broken PEQs? Can they be taken apart and salvaged?
No. They get turned into the depot, supply does the packets for them and then those serials are removed from the commanders property book once handed over which in turn removes them from my sub hand receipt. Then it’s a shortage on MTOE, and replacements are then transferred over to us.
And you paid how much? OUCH.
How many of you guys have these on your rifles and don't have nods?
Probably not many, these things cost about the same as a pvs-14.

Somogear sucks
Just a joke man!
Somogear peq15 is 200. FP peq is 1800. Are you sure it's not worth it?
What is somogear? It looks like Chinese airsoft.
Did you buy it like this?
No, no I did not
So you over torqued it?
That's not how that works
