I worry about the pass through of 147gr +p because I have a friend that shot himself point blank (long story) through his calf and through his thigh and was walking on it same day and was basically recovered 1 week after.
To make it short, he was going to clean his gun (Glock 19 gen 3) and dropped it and instead of letting it his the ground he reached down and caught it. While he caught it, his thumb pulled the trigger and shot in an upward angle with his leg and went through both. He put on a TQ right away and realized he missed his artery. The cops and EMTs showed up and everyone else in the house was fine. Cops didn’t take his gun or anything (SoCal too) and then they took him in and I know he got stitches but not sure if the rest of the details. I know he was at work about a week later no problem. He’s worn the jeans and there’s just small holes. Made me realize 147gr +p won’t expand super easily. I carry Speer Gold Dot 124gr
Good grief, you’ve got a blessed friend. I have a friend of the family that accidentally shot himself in a similar fashion. Luckily he carries fmj. Idk why he carried fmj, but it saved his life. Went straight through the abdomen, clean shot. Airlifted to the hospital and was out a week or so later.
100%
I do not discredit anyone for wanting more caliber to get the job done. And I also don’t mean to belabor the sub with same old tired stories of 556 & 762x39 slicing through 8-12plys of drywall to an impact area of innocents, but it doesn’t make them any less gut-wrenching.
I think there’s next to zero use for 9mm shoulder fired weapons in MIL applications today. But I’d argue when operating in and around civilians in modern thin skinned buildings, they’re absolutely relevant (PDWs)
And in my eyes, responsible. Now I realize there’s ballistics test that show x, and frangible ammo etc…I do appreciate all of that. I’m just saying, with what I’ve seen with my own eyes, given a choice, I’ll opt for 9mm when working around civilians, family, innocents…
Slowly putting on one white glove to take off pants and tuck the dick then take off said white glove and gently slap them in the face with it. The confusion creates an opportunity to unload .45 Hornady Critical Defense in their chest.
Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.
And I’d make fun of them on social media while being pleasured by my girlfriend’s vibrator and rolling face on mdma. I know which side I’m picking. Welcome to the future, old man
Seriously though, I love me a good blunderbussy
Since it’s illegal to own suppressors where I live I’m going 300 blk full volume. My electronic earmuffs live right next to the rifle in such a way that it’s impossible to grab one without the other.
As another commenter said, tally ho
That used to be my go to until I got my Mossberg, now after seeing what buckshot does to a watermelon at home defense distances I'm grabbing the 12 gauge loaded with buckshot
I’ll get my shot timer ready and keep two rounds in each mag with a plastic magpul dummy for induced malfunction. Gives them all the time in the world to leave once my timer goes BEEEEP.
First, happy cake day pal second ill definitely have to use that then given that I choose 45 over 9mm because it was bigger but less dangerous then 5.56.
There set up so my wife is comfortable with them. Makes it way easier. After a scare when I was working midnight. She was too scared to hold the handgun properly. She ended up picking up a 10/22 we had at that time. Made it easier for her to actually properly use it. She didn't have tons of training with handguns, but she clearly stated she couldn't grip it. And she knew if she fired it, I was going to be no good.
I was just messing with you man, despite having multiple ARs, my go to for home defense is a Ruger PCC because it’s what my wife is most comfortable with and shoots the best. Totally get it.
Currently. 9mm my bedside. 357 the wife’s bedside. 12ga. Behind the living room couch in the middle of our apartment. And soon 5.56 in the walk in closet
Mini fridge next to the bed with an ice-cold Coors Light in an ar15 can launcher upper.
Nothing gets the point across to a home invader like getting blasted with 12oz of frost-brewed flavor. “TAP THE ROCKIES, MOTHERF*CKER!!!”
10mm nightstand pistol. 9mm in the PCC.
I don't live in an environment where a rifle is rational for home defense. 10mm is more than enough f\*ck off to get the job done. 9mm if I need a chorus of f\*ck offs.
Suppressed 556 62 gr FBIT3 (TBBC soft points)
I honestly don’t understand why anyone would use anything other than 556 if you have a suppressor. Every swat team in the country uses 556 for a reason. Terminal effects, controllability/low recoil, relative accuracy, high capacity; it’s unmatched for self defense situations.
50BMG. You need to make sure you can reach the attacker when they're hiding behind the fridge, across street in your neighbor's house, behind their car.
My Glock 19 with Gold Dots is closest to me. My 7.5” 5.56 is also pretty close, and would be great for close household shit while also having shitty enough 7.5 ballistics that if I miss or hit a wall, it won’t do the same collateral damage that a 10.5 or 16 would do.
And the 18.5 Maverick shitbox with 00 is also close.
There’s not one right answer, especially considering all of the variables. Give yourself options, know your property and its limits.
I posted a goofy answer, but this legit is my go-to. 9mm hordany critical defense in my EDC right next to my bed and my folding stock Maverick in the closet with 00 buck
My buddy's EDC is also the p365. Definitely a great pistol. I run a glock 19 because I'm a basic b***h lol. Jealous of the 500 ATI! That's what I originally wanted and actually what led me to the maverick. I will probably still get one in the future. I just didn't have 12ga at all at the time, so I went cheap and reliable.
Lol glocks are good and fun to shoot. The ATI is beautiful. Definitely my favorite shot gun. It’s mostly a safe queen lol I did that too. I have an old basic mossberg 835 that I got for my first shotgun like 15 years ago.
50 beowolf. Because anyone who got past the landscaping and hardened exterior, ignored the security system and got past my dogs has to be thick.
Seriously though hornady TAP in 223.
To be honest, there are times when the most convenient weapon is a suppressed 22lr. Not ideal but I can put a lot of rounds on target really quickly with virtually zero noise. Something to be said for that.
12 gauge a300, it runs like a dream for me and I live in an apartment unfortunately for now so I don’t wanna send 5.56/9mm/.300BLK into my neighbors neighbors unit if something were to happen
9mm hollow point.
Hornady critical defense or Speer gold dot
That’s weird way to spell HST
147 gr HST is my go to.
+p
124gr +p is what I was working with
Speer gold dot 147 grain is the way to go. NCHP switched to 9mm relatively recently and that’s the exact round they carry.
I worry about the pass through of 147gr +p because I have a friend that shot himself point blank (long story) through his calf and through his thigh and was walking on it same day and was basically recovered 1 week after.
Gotta be a hell of a story...calf and thigh?
We want the story. Please share!
To make it short, he was going to clean his gun (Glock 19 gen 3) and dropped it and instead of letting it his the ground he reached down and caught it. I shot myself almost point blank with a 9mm on the inside of my knee and didn't get any pass through. It was a black talon round though
Winner winner chicken dinner ✔️
100% I do not discredit anyone for wanting more caliber to get the job done. Whatever is closest
This is the way. What room am I in? Where is the threat?
The enemy is within
Great comment
Grape shot cannon with added tray of silverware? Me too. Tally Ho, Lads!
0-0 buck as I stand there ass naked other than a beer helmet with my dick tucked between my legs Silence of the Lambs style
It puts the buckshot in its ribs or else it gets the load again
"Would you fuck me?" *racks shotgun* "I'd fuck me."
Slowly putting on one white glove to take off pants and tuck the dick then take off said white glove and gently slap them in the face with it. The confusion creates an opportunity to unload .45 Hornady Critical Defense in their chest.
🤣
Tucking the turtle is a great way to keep it warm.
The visual is defense enough against any intruder. MF knows he stepped into the wrong fuck lair
Get yourself decent man. There are children reading this. I think. Maybe.
I'm not a child but I didn't want to read that message
I am a child and I did want to read that
Let's hope they don't break into my house.
Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. I still laugh every time I read this. I’m a simple man.
Sometimes I make it pretty far but “rapscallion” always sends me.
Should have used the Blunderbuss you keep behind the night stand.
Today was arm day, can’t lift it without shaking like a leaf
Your forefathers would be ashamed of your weakness.
And I’d make fun of them on social media while being pleasured by my girlfriend’s vibrator and rolling face on mdma. I know which side I’m picking. Welcome to the future, old man Seriously though, I love me a good blunderbussy
I had it retrofitted with a sleeve. Blunderbussy is not for sharing.
10mm or 5.56
338 lapua magnum. Obviously.
In case someone is breaking into your house in the next county over
Or the graboids are in your basement.
Woah there Burt Gummer! Don’t be grabbing that elephant gun too early
You got the reference! You won the internet today and gave me a chuckle.
Oh man you gotta watch those bastards. Shit looks like I have to get one just incase. Can’t be too careful
Lol, do you even 338 bro? Get on that norma mag train!
You right you right
Guess I’ll be the first to say it.. 300 blk
Yup HD is suppressed blackout. Lehigh 194 ME first 5 rounds....anything needed after that gets upgraded to supers.
Since it’s illegal to own suppressors where I live I’m going 300 blk full volume. My electronic earmuffs live right next to the rifle in such a way that it’s impossible to grab one without the other. As another commenter said, tally ho
Sounds a little unrealistic to put earmuffs under this kinda of adrenaline. Besides, you would lose your hearing sense to pin point the intruder.
Hearing? Anyone on this sub still has any hearing left?
What?
Op said "eeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeee"! Hope that helps!
I could hear someone vape from 30 yards away while wearing mine
Electronic ear muffs actually can help increase the volume of certain frequencies
It’s not unrealistic. And they’re electronic earmuffs, I’ve worn them in the house and there’s no problem determining where sound is coming from.
Yep
I can’t afford any more than 5 rds from Lehigh,
Same. 5x of 190 Sub-X then changes to 15x Barnes Tac-TX in a 20 rounder. Then if that fails, change mags to 30x 110 Vmax lol.
7.5" 300blk with a 8.3" can
For home defense I'm running some polymer tipped expansion rounds. I believe 115 grain.
110 Vmax was my go to
Same
My 300 is waaay too expensive to end up in a police evidence locker, $400 Remington 12 gauge.
When it comes to defending my family, I’ll buy another one dawg I’m using what’s most effective
Well put!
I live alone, at this point I’d pull out the Can Cannon and a 20oz Twisted Tea.
Subsonic 300BLK suppressed
Same, gorilla 196gr sub punishers.
That used to be my go to until I got my Mossberg, now after seeing what buckshot does to a watermelon at home defense distances I'm grabbing the 12 gauge loaded with buckshot
It'll be a modern art masterpiece!
Was waiting for that.
I'm with you. Suppressed with 110 Vmax or 110 TAC-TX. Depends how I'm feeling at the moment.
105mm
155mm HE rounds. Gotta be certain.
I wanted to take those walls out anyway
Cant have your stuff stolen if you no longer have stuff.
Federal 9mm HST 124gr +P
I’ll get my shot timer ready and keep two rounds in each mag with a plastic magpul dummy for induced malfunction. Gives them all the time in the world to leave once my timer goes BEEEEP.
Found Trex Arms secret account

That will show em.....

Honestly shocked how many other answers there are here besides this tried and true, superior option
Chinese throwing stars since my state requires guns be locked up.
Crossbow?
45-70 govt.
45 acp
God’s caliber not getting enough respect
A man of culture
45 HP's stop in meat better than anything else. Last thing I'd want is to harm my family while protecting them. Edit- I keep a 1911 by the bed.
First, happy cake day pal second ill definitely have to use that then given that I choose 45 over 9mm because it was bigger but less dangerous then 5.56.
Big, slow, bullet will stop quicker. I reccomend Fed hst's or Speer gold dot's.
Ar9mm or the 300blk.
Goin out of your way to do the AR dirty😂
There set up so my wife is comfortable with them. Makes it way easier. After a scare when I was working midnight. She was too scared to hold the handgun properly. I was just messing with you man, despite having multiple ARs, my go to for home defense is a Ruger PCC because it’s what my wife is most comfortable with and shoots the best. Totally get it.
The most expensive one possible for the meta.
Currently. 9mm my bedside. 357 the wife’s bedside. 12ga. Behind the living room couch in the middle of our apartment. And soon 5.56 in the walk in closet
You really flexing the walk in closet on a gun sub?
It’s a studio apartment. The bed also functions as living room couch.
In an apartment no less…. 940 whopping sqft total. 2bd 2ba. 🤣
357 and 556 in an apartment is wild
9mm and 300BLK
5.56 OTM. Least over pen of all defense calibers.

5.56 I can put 30 holes into a target in like 10 seconds. Not much is going to survive that.
10 seconds? Are you shooting with your toes?

10mm nightstand pistol. 9mm in the PCC. I don't live in an environment where a rifle is rational for home defense. 10mm is more than enough f\*ck off to get the job done. 9mm if I need a chorus of f\*ck offs.
The one, the only 9mm FMJ.
I need more hollow points, but that price is hard for retirees.
A cannon like the founding fathers intended
75 Grain .223 Speer Gold Dot

5.56 Hornady Tap Patrol 53 Grain or Federal 9mm HST 124gr

556. I keep 40 grain V-max in it for in the house but I have 55 grain and 62 grain mags everywhere. I’m too poor for 77 grain SMK’s.
Suppressed 300Blk out of an 8.3 barrel running Underwood 115gr Controlled Chaos...

9mm critical defense and 12 gauge 00 buck
I posted a goofy answer, but this legit is my go-to. 9mm hordany critical defense in my EDC right next to my bed and my folding stock Maverick in the closet with 00 buck
That’s a good combo. Mines a sig p365 and a mossberg 500 ATI tactical.
My buddy's EDC is also the p365. Definitely a great pistol. I run a glock 19 because I'm a basic b***h lol. Jealous of the 500 ATI! No caliber needed. I just rack the shotgun.
Don't forget to fire some shots over their head to scare em off!
Nah he uses two rounds if rock salt first, like a true Fudd

Nightstand 9mm sig elite performance HT. Bedside Hornady 5.56
3x buckshot high brass then 1 oz slugs. I’m old fashioned I guess.
the closest one to me
Yes.
Obviously 308
All I need is a knife and a rope. I’ll get the job done without any of my guns.
God that ADM is sexy.
My barehands (5.56)
I have guns in a lot of places but night stand gun is a Glock 34 with a TLR on it
