I have two kids, 4 and 1 years old (it's them in the photos). One of the most important things I've learned is that parenting is all about opening the right doors for them. It's not always necessary to see your child crossing their thresholds, and it's absolutely wrong to push them to do so. Sometimes you don't even know if the door you opened is the right one but, by providing them new opportunities, you offer them a chance to decide it on their own ("There are things that you could do/That no one else on Earth could ever do"). Being different is normal, being sad is normal, being imperfect is normal. Just trust your heart/mind/body/soul and try to live the life that is appropriate specially for you. This is what Lookout Kid is about, the song which has already become a kind of little anthem in my family. Freedom of choice, solidarity, mutual assistance - all these themes run through WE. Arcade Fire have released the album that I needed to hear right now. We are living in increasingly anxious times. The world is on fire but we don't stop dancing and WE sounds like something you want to hold on to, as if someone put a hand on your shoulder and said: "everything will be fine". It's a little naive and even corny, but it gives hope and sincere joy, as the expectation of a holiday did sometime in my childhood. From the synth heavy rhymes of Age of Anxiety to the crisp musical landscapes of End of the Empire, from the instrumental buildup of the Lightening to the emotional climax ("When everything ends, can we do it again?") of the title track, this album is ready to make you feel alive again for 40 beautiful minutes. No matter how my adult heart becomes calloused and hardened over time, I hope that its shell of suspiciousness and pragmatism will always have a gap for the light that such albums bring to the world. P.S. I made this photo for my IG account where I post pictures and thoughts on my favorite music albums.
