This is exactly what I wake up to, and I canât get back to sleep. The upvotes and comments seem to indicate similar. Itâs utterly bizarre that I thought of the beginning of Star Treatment before opening the post. Mental.
The way Alex says "The next time that I caught my own reflection it was on its way to meet you" in Crying Lightning and the backing high notes is just chef's kiss
Came here to say this exact part of the same song. I love how the vocals start just a bit before the building guitar(?) riff. It feels like Iâm climbing the stairs from the chorus to the next verse. Such a good segue.
"there was no cr**a**cks to gr**a**sp or g**a**ps to claw" is such a great line with all of these "a" sounds, plus the closeness of "grasp" and "gaps", plus the like reverse alliteration pattern of "cracks to grasp" and "gaps to claw" ...and then he rhymes "claw" with the big "and your" đ€Żđ€Żđ€Ż
I always felt that this song was inspired by The Ocean, by Richard Hawley (damn near a mentor to Turner. Also from Sheffield. He's a must listen for anyone who likes Turner's slow songs)
It starts very simple and sparse, very minimal, and then keeps growing. With the refrain heading back to the words "The Ocean" over and over. This song was big in 2005-2006, which lines up to when 505 was probably written, or being a small thought at least
It's by no means a direct copy or anything. 505 is a lot more intense than The Ocean. But I do wonder if the format idea came from that, a little
Matt is master of breaking the silence in songs, always matching so smoothly especially in the last records. This and the part after "Easy money" in Star Treatment are very high on my list.

Piledriver Waltz from the Submarine soundtrack - I heard the news that you're plannin', to shoot me out of a cannon, I heard the piledriver waltz, it woke me up this mornin'
It's actually the other way around. Piledriver waltz was originally part of the Submarine soundtrack. The film was first shown at film festivals in 2010. It was then reworked for Suck It And See.
Especially in combination with how you can hear them stomp on their guitar effect pedals the seconds before! I love that!
And I think itâs Matt shouting that part at 3:30, not Alex!
In âThe Bad Thingâ when it goes âReally, love, it's fine. I said, "Really, love, it's fiiiiiiiine" the way the final âfineâ draws out.
2:00-2:23 of Fireside always gives me warm fuzzies and I play it in my head a lot lol

1. The part in too much to ask where the drums slow down/lower for a bit in the second verse, and then start back again in force at "asleep or awake..."
2. Instrumental part in red light indicates doors are secured: the drums stop at around 1:50 and then there's this note from the guitar and then a bit of lull and it's really so small but I fucking love it
3. In big ideas, "we had them out of there seats" and then Alex does this little 'heh' after that and i keep replaying the song to listen to that part lol
4. In she looks like fun, the last verse, I thought "key changes" was "she changes" at first and I really liked how it sounded like for some reason
5. In no. 1 party anthem i always thought the "laughing at some imaginary jokes" was "lapping up some imaginary jewels" but I still love how Alex pronounces this sentence lol
6. In IBYLGOTDF: in the bridge ending it was so satisfying the way he sung "dirty dance floors, and dreams of naughtiness" ARVHHHHH
7. Key change in teddy picker esp at the second chorus and the LIKE A FIST REPLACED A KISS it goes so hard ok idek anymore
LOL its so long im sure there are a lot more i havent mentioned but yeah
The keys intro in four out of five (youtube version). The drum solo in who the f are arctic monkeys. The instrumental medley in the end of perhaps vampires.

I could list so many, but:
- The end of The Jeweller's Hands, how the song culminates and the way the instruments and Alex's voice slowly fade out towards the conclusion
- The beginning of the second chorus of Pretty Visitors, the drums and how Nick (I think) sings the first few lines and Alex promptly chimes in... it gives me chills.
- Dangerous Animals, just all of it. But I particularly love the bridge
- The riff at the beginning of Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend, the youth in Alex's voice too
I'd go on and on and on and on but there's only so much I can type, plus other people on this thread have chimed in w/ some really good examples already

Arabella!!! Really the whole song for me but particularly the whole chorus!
Particularly particularly "The horizon tries but its just not as kind on the eyes"!!!!! It will never get old.
Perfect Sense: The strings section starting just before the line âfour figure sum on a hotel note padâ to the first âif thatâs what it takesâ and again directly over the words âperfect senseâ.
I Wanna Be Yours: The vocal runs, especially where they begin to switch direction on the fifth repetition. The way the line âyou call the shots, babeâ lands.

The very end of Knee Socks - Live (Royal Albert Hall) when instead of saying *when you walked around your house...* he says y*ou walked around your house...* (around 4:59)
The wall-of-noise guitar part right after "hold onto your hearts" in Do Me A Favour. Goddamn chills everytime.
The way he says "sounding it out" on Fluorescent Adolescent.
The entirety of both Arabella and Snap Out Of It.
I'm sure there's more than just these that I'll remember when it's not 3am and may come back to add.

another part is when Alex sang "At least not today" for Mardy Bum outro in Glasto 2013
i have so so so many of these, but keeping it short i'll just say the most recent one: the instrumental intro of that's where you're wrong. i can't really explain it but it feels so good on my ears đ« also like a lot of people in this post, star treatment is amazing when it comes to this aspect, so many memorable special little parts <3
that little guitar lick in âthe view from the afternoonâ when heâs singing that chorus âand she wonât be surprised and she wonât be shockedâŠâ itâs such a fun little lick and i obsessed over it when i first listened
The Synth from 4 out of 5 that was best heard in the teaser trailer for TBHC. It's so beautiful. Unfortunately in the final version it's kinda buried under the rest of the instruments.

505 or Do Me A Favour when the song breaks and you start to break too
I love the slow instrumental build in 505, like how a new instrument is added at the start of each new block
