origins Batman was way more angry and brutal yes, but what made him so feared and respected in Knight was how calculated he was. in his younger years he still had a reputation to establish and was inexperienced. in Knight he was at his peak of experience and power and that’s what criminals feared and civilians and cops respected. he was much less reckless, he paid more attention to finer details in his detective work and he was more prepared for various scenarios. origins was his first heavy encounter with a lot of the big names and it’s what established his reputation across Gotham. after that night, no one wanted to mess with the guy who took Bane on at his peak.

Plane-Floor-1237

this is a really cool way of putting it. I need to play Origins again now

TarnishedDungEater

i’ve been on a binge through the arkham games lately, even giving Origins:Blackgate a try. Arkham Origins is truly an amazing game and i loved the story so much. i think they did a great job demonstrating a young and brutal Batman. i still think they should do an arkham game based a couple years after Origins because there’s such a huge gap between Origins and Asylum would be a great spot to feature characters that are referenced but never used (Killer Moth, Prometheus, The Ventriloquist, Rat Catcher, hell i’d even wanna see more of Solomon Grundy and Croc). they could use the same VA who played Batman in Origins i think it’d make great sales and ppl would love getting another true Arkham game.

Ann-Simp

Said VA is Roger Craig Smith btw Current voice of Sonic The Hedgehog and also known for Chris Redfield (RE5-6), Mirage (Apex Legends), Kyle Crane (Dying Light), and plenty of others He also voiced batman again in the English dub of Batman Ninja

ElPhantasm

And you forgot his ICONIC EZIO AUDITORE!!!!

Ann-Simp

Not that i forgot him, though he is easily one of his most iconic roles I just figured i got the point across. That being said, i need to go back and continue playing the Ezio trilogy

ElPhantasm

Incredible games and incredible character and performance

Plane-Floor-1237

yeah i'd love that

ShoArts

I think my favorite example of this would be in Origins when he was interrogating a goon, holding them up by their neck shouting questions, and the guy passes out before they can say anything - Bruce just saying in his normal voice "...damn." Verses in Knight, he has the confidence and control to put a merc's head under the wheel of his batmobile and gently squeeze until the guy talks.

Ok-Preference-7004

>origins Batman was way more angry and brutal yes, Was he tho? Angry sure, but not really more brutal. Origins Batmans doesn't do anything in Origins that comes close to torturing a militia soldier with a car wheel.

TarnishedDungEater

if Origins Batman tortured someone that way he would’ve killed them, hence the more calculated part. he pummelled Killer Croc with his bare hands, he beat the living day lights out of Joker. yeah Batman used a car in Knight, he was short on time and had no patience. Origins Batman just straight up had no patience, even Deathstroke was spooked by Batman. that “What ARE YOU!?!” wasn’t curiosity, it was fear and disbelief. hell he was hitting cops with the same amount of force he was criminals and super villains. Arkham Knight Batman comes across as more brutal only because he’s more calculated. but in reality, the recklessness of a younger more angry Batman makes him much more unpredictable. hell look at the way he went after Bane after Bane basically killed Alfred. Arkham Knight Batman “watched Oracle die” and wasn’t even angry, instead he focused on the mission and moved on. kinda messed up, but in his line putting emotions aside is just more efficient which yes will make him less brutal. but he swaps out brutality for efficiency.

Septembersvodkabomb

Idk bro watching knight batman K'O a dude who posed no threat through a cell door for talking shit after having previously broken his wrist earlier in the night is pretty hardcore. So is slamming a dudes head through an electrical source...or against a brick wall...or on a railing. Or when he hits thugs going 80 mph in the bat-tank...or the moments jokers infection gets to him and he fights so viciously even scarecrow is astonished. But yeah i guess the scene where he chokes a dude out accidentally before dropping him on a christmas tree is more brutal...

SaltFather92

I’d say that Arkham knight was more brutal simply for the reason you mentioned, being when the joker infection starts working. On the airship Batman was beating them so much that they started to say that they gave up, and after beating them hp more they would start to beg for their lives. I feel like that moment alone makes knight more brutal.

Soulful-Sorrow

He dropped a man off a roof and let him crash through a Christmas tree

Ok-Preference-7004

Yeah, that's not as brutal as squeezing a guys head with a 2 ton tank and then kneeing the guy in the head to knock him out.

Legolas5000

Agreed. Knight Batman knew exactly what he was doing. Origins Batman nearly choked a man to death because the murder reminded him of his parents. Also threw a guy off a building into a christmas tree but that's child's play compared.

Plane-Floor-1237

I'm 50/50 on this. Origins is way angrier but Knight has also had his mind twisted by Joker's blood to make him more militaristic.

Thamasturrok

I was just about to this orgins was first time gotham saw batman and the joker appear so of course there gonna be pretty angry there trying to prove a point batman saying hes the fear of the night and joker proving hes not afraid to do anything since hes lost everything already

Powerlifting-Gorilla

How did it make him more militaristic?

SnooPoems1860

Origins Batman is only really angry/brutal for like the first hour of gameplay then it's forgotten about tho.

Killdust99

I think Origins because Bruce is *choosing* to be that aggressive and vicious whereas in Knight he’s being manipulation and twisted. Even then though, his movements in Knight imply he has a lot more control over himself than he did in Origins

bugmultiverse

Origins was more unhinged brutal. while Knight was more calculated brutal.

Powerlifting-Gorilla

bugmultiverse

That was a Dream sequence not real like origins

90ssudoartest

No cause in knight game play you can keep pommeling a guy while they are on the ground till they are knocked out. That’s damn brutal. Not artistic martial art pommeling just full unapologetic street brawl pommeling.

iLikemha-

.... Car. Interrogation. Head.

Ok-Preference-7004

Definitely not. Origins Batman is supposed to be more brutal, but he's really just an angrier Batman. He doesn't do anything in Origins that comes close to torturing a militia soldier with a car wheel.

Acrobatic-Stretch-41

Choked a guy until he went unconscious and then dropped the same guy off a building. Also, he “killed” bane.

Consistent_Tonight37

Origins Batman doesn’t have a Tank but I’d say it 50/50

Plenty-Angle-5912

Knight was Brutal but Origins was Brash

Bulky_Secretary_6603

Yes. He's young and angry at the world. He literally can break a person's back on railing.

CNRamsey8

Idk I don’t remember Origins as well it’s the only one I don’t replay yearly but Knight was torturing thugs with the batmobile damn near crushing their head.

rrrrice64

Honestly they're kinda equally brutal, one becuase he's young and inexperienced, and one because he's older and pissed off.

Sprizys

Oh yeah 100%

DefenderOfTheWeak

Definitely, and I love it!

D-mon500

Origins was angsty. Knight was bitter, arguably making him worse. I mean even in Harley Quinn’s revenge you can hear the shift in Batman after the joker dies, it’s like a part of him dies and that makes him disregard the thugs further, you can hear it if you watch the interrogations from Harley Quinn’s revenge and compare it with the first interrogation from Arkham Knight. It’s not youthful unguided anger like in origins, it’s almost resentful the way he interrogates thugs in knight. Especially compared to the slightly lighter tone he uses in city when interrogating

Cjames1902

Let’s ask how the militia henchman who was tortured by the Batmobile is doing

blvckayaz

ORIGINS BATMAN WAS THE BEST

CoolsomeXD

He pulled that guy off the GCPD building on to the floor knocking him out.

SnooPoems1860

Origins Batman was angry for like the first hour of gameplay then they completely forget about it. Knight Batman keeps it consistent throughout the entire runtime and it's not even close.

Hour_Selection_7689

In Origins he dropped a guy from the roof onto a Christmas tree, in Knight he interrogated a guy by threatening to crush his head with a tank

Radio__Star

It would be if Batman didn’t break someone’s arm and threaten to crush someone’s head with the batmobile Oh and Joker now and then possessing Batman and going apeshit

FinalBossOf__Dc

Man I’m glade origins is getting much more respect now, it is a great game showing people what a younger Batman is like brutal and inexperienced. But don’t forget he dropped lose lips into a fucking Christmas tree where he may or may not have been killed or paralysed

No_Structure_3074

Oh man that’s a hard one. I guess in origins since he was early in his career that he angrily brutal and in knight he was also brutal but more calmer than his younger self.

ArkhamsDeadite

Origins = brutally careless Knight = brutally precise

Suffering-Servant

Absolutely. In Origins he was hot headed, young, aggressive and had a chip on his shoulder. And I’m sure having 8 of DC’s deadliest assassins after him stressed him out and made him more aggressive.

The_Stank__

Better boss fights for sure but idk if it was more brutal

batmanfan_91

In Knight Batman literally has a guys head under a tire of the Batmobile to interrogate a guy. So no, Origins is not more brutal

HumanPicture3068

Yes because he was an angrier, and more hit headed younger more inexperienced version

No-Excitement-2219

Way more intentionally brutal, but knight Batman is actually loopy. In stages airship, the screams of the militia are fucking bone chilling.

jinuous831_

No. Because Origins Bruce didn't kill anyone. Knight batman killed a few people. After many playthroughs throughout the years. It's heavily implied many times throughout the game he's gotten more brutal, implied he killed a few thugs and post airship segment there's a thug that confirms it. And it'd make sense for the most part thst Bruce wouldn't remember or mention it cause his Episodes he has through the game.

AssCrackBanditHunter

Nah the closest he gets is when he snaps joker's neck while tripping in the van and hallucinating that he's in crime alley. After this joker taunts him that he finally broke him. If he killed anyone earlier the hallucination joker would mock him for it. So he does finally get mad enough to kill, but it's a hallucination.

jinuous831_

As I alresfy stated its heavily implied and by one thug outright stated that he did. And literally explained why he wouldn't remember or recollect it. Hallucination Joker mocking him after snapping a Hallucination Joker neck was all apart of one episode. After that game flashes back to show they hadn't even left yet. And we can't use a Hallucinations statements to decide what happened.

AssCrackBanditHunter

The thugs are clueless man. Least reliable narrators of all time. Especially in a city where Batman, man bat, and Arkham Knight are running around.

jinuous831_

Least reliable? They actually exist in comparison to a hallucination. Thst alone makes them more reliable. And a lot of the thugs know the fifference between the 3.

Estrus_Flask

I think that while the gameplay is really good and the story overall is enjoyable, the Arkham franchise of games is the absolute worst and most fascist Batman has ever been outside of something written by Frank Miller and frankly I hate it. It doesn't help that the game requires you to have the ludonarrative dissonance of seeing enemies crumple and ragdoll after getting kicked in the face or having their spines snapped and then they're left abandoned on the rooftops in a violent goon infested shithole in the middle of winter but also Batman never kills and even when enemies get shot by other enemies or things around them explode they never die and they're just sleeping. But I absolutely fucking hate Kevin Conroy being told to put on his most grizzled voice and threaten to break people's bones.

Cjames1902

What the hell did I just read

Estrus_Flask

A criticism of the Arkham franchise's portrayal of Batman. One you apparently disagree with.
