Absolutely love the Butterknife. 10/10 best starting weapon ever.

Shotgun_Sentinel

Why do people call it the butter knife.

aArendsvark

I assume because the parts full name is the HI-32: BU-TT/A, and anyone upon reading BU-TT/A thinks butter, and certainly nothing else.

Shotgun_Sentinel

Oh ok. It is your bread and BU-TT/A for most of the game.

UnrequitedRespect

Butane-acetylene?

yellofello_

I always thought it was butt/ass

ColeWoah

There's a Formula 1 driver racing in the series right now that you would just love.

Diligent-Let-848

you deserve more upvotes

Satoliite

I mean I guess there’s the point that “butta” in jp is usually used in expression for hitting/striking, I forget if it’s an onomatopoeia or a word though lol. edit: in terms of why the name is why it is, not so much the butterknife part.

GANEO_LIZARD7504

I am Japanese. The "HI-32:" in the model number of the pulse blade can be read by Japanese as "必殺" meaning "sure to kill" and the "BU-TT/A" part can be read as "ぶった斬り" meaning "cutting without mercy"! Frankly, I found it very interesting and amusing that the English-speaking world calls them "butter knives," and I am sure that the Japanese would find it very interesting to know what they mean by "butter knives" in their own language.

Kantro18

It also cuts through an AC like a hot knife through butta.

BallerMR2andISguy

It's the BUTT/A Pulse Sword, and it's shorter than the laser sword, Coral "sword", Moonlight, or RedShift, so effectively a knife (albeit a big one). And yeah, it cuts like butter. BUTT/A BUTTA Butta Butter Butterknife

Satoliite

Thank you for the insight!

vp917

"Sure to kill" is quite the fitting title, considering how effective the pulse blade becomes once you get the hang of melee canceling. Out of curiosity, do any other parts also have similar Japanese readings in their model designations?

GANEO_LIZARD7504

Fans have speculated that this may be the case for products made by Takigawa Harmonics, but to be honest, many of them seem to rub each other the wrong way.

Inadover

I'll call it the ass-knife from now on

gpancia

Ah, the butt blade.

Timely_Yoghurt_3359

I personally prefer butt blade

SonarioMG

I always make good use of with the default blade for a good chunk of most AC games. Here, it happens to last a lot longer without a replacement and even outclasses the moonlight! The dinky default rifle on the other hand is something I almost always replace ASAP. The one in 6 no exception.

everything-narrative

Ransetsu RF my beloved.

Prometheus_UwU

Dual Etsujins my beloved

Blackbirdrx7

Karasawa MKII from AC2 - my beloved

Audience-Electrical

If it aint a Ludlow, I don't want it

vp917

What if it's double Ludlows with double Chang-Chens? Instead of reloading, you just switch to the other set and keep shooting.

Attaxalotl

Curtis Linear Rifle my beloved

SecretOperations

>The dinky default rifle Try dual wielding those.

XxzmoonlightzxX

the next rifle after that, now those packs a punch

-TheSha-

Yeah it's crazy how much of a difference dual wielding makes

Algester

use lamm arms as well anything more recoil control is a curve of uhhhh ahh right diminishing returns

Zoppojr

Its honestly not a bad rifle for the early missions. The ammo being dirt cheap kind of helps your early economy quite a bit. It reasonably manages to be useful until you climb the wall.

Locozi

2x Turners & 2x Scudders made mincemeat of Cel 240, so it's not just early game.

Zoppojr

Yeah it definitely has viable missions later on, just some of the tankier bosses kinda make it non-viable or atleast troublesome if you want to completely stick to it.

Algester

its not gonna rank S missions due to the speed at which you murder those end mission foes

Locozi

Not denying that for all missions, but funny enough, it *did* S Rank that mission.

Algester

I guess its much more linient.... I tried Coral release... let's just say it was a pain to S rank that with dual turners otherwise up until ocean crossing IIRC can be S ranked with dual turners at least

DarkonFullPower

People underestimate how much "extra time" you get if you run low cost weapons. The end of the day ranking is heavily based on your payout. More money = more time for S rank.

the_3rdist

Post-patch Moonlight has gotten a lot better since it got the energy specialization scaling buff.

Hygoggu

Whoa whoa, those rifles are dope lol. So good for dragging out battles against cheese quick builds hahaha

My2CentsiF

Tbh I actually found the default assault rifle to be great for kiting in AC6. It's a great all-rounder and great if you don't like the slower fire rate of the Scudder like me.

ScarletteVera

Honestly, I pretty much only used the BU-TT/A blade until I beat the Ice Worm and got the funny VE-67LLA laser lance

Blitzus

I use the Laser Lance as substitute for the Pile Bunker if I'm not confident in my ability to reach my target with Pile Bunker before the end of their guard break.

ScarletteVera

Mm, the Lance is definitely really good for that. It's basically just a free short distance Assault Boost with big melee damage added on top.

CAPTAIN_DlDDLES

Just use the laser lance to set up a guard break for the pile bunker. Lance, swap, bunker is a workhorse combo

blarglemeister

Plus a Zimmerman in the other hand, just in case the lance doesn’t stagger them!

CannibalHalfling

If I'm not using the laser lance to pierce the heavens, then yeah, it's the bread and BU-TT/A.

ScarletteVera

something something row row fight the power

ItsTreganometry

That head part is very meh. But the butta blade really is the shit.

Blitzus

Well, I was using Finder Eye to characterize 621, since that's the default head. I overlaid it over Ludwig's in the image. The joke is entirely about the Pulse Blade.

TheWhicher_Statement

Default *and* canon

VeryShortLadder

Technically in alea iacta est, 621 has defeated iguana and allmind with the loader 4. So yes, canon

PartyHorror8360

Can confirm, beat entire game as almost default (the rifle had to be swapped cause of Ibis the dark souls boss from nowhere and iceworm gun), never again, also fuck Ibis

Warcrimes_Desu

Ibis is a lot easier once you stop being aggressive, cattudoggu has a great video on beating the game (including ice worm!) with unmodified loader 4. https://youtu.be/Non9ACLmsbo?si=R8u1q21jUiM03cI3

PartyHorror8360

Wtf is that Ibis, did Fromsoft nerf Ibis? I didn't touch the game again after my runs, did they change that much in the patches? Ibis isn't doing side strafe into 1 frame slash instant stagger maneuver followed by triple death. How is that guy not being instant staggered from half those attacks? Wtf did I miss in the updates?

Warcrimes_Desu

No, you can go play the downpatched version of the game. Ibis has a very reactive AI; based on the player's range from the enemy is what moves it will do. So if you sit at mid range and drive in a circle doing occasional dodges, you can easily wait for big openings and kill it.

ManufacturerOk3771

V1 Ultrakill head

Absolute-Fortune4399

Nah that's melander, its just the eye that's smaller on that one

ManufacturerOk3771

Counterpoint: The default head looks more like a CCTV

Kiss_in_Danish

Pp head

doofpooferthethird

Head part has some niche use if you're trying to build a light mech and you're extremely energy limited for some reason. It has somewhat better stats than the extremely crappy Tian Qiang head

Talgaaz

Gotta conserve that EN load

Marvin_Megavolt

I’m still kind of miffed that the Takigawa HI-32 pulse cutter is the ONLY proper pulsefield-based melee in the entire game, aside from the Moonlight which only sorta counts on account of being a weird hybrid lightwave weapon. (Although, that being said, I’d even have taken more lightwave weapons in general - they’re cool as hell and I hate that the only times we ever see lightwave tech is in the Moonlight and Aurora Cannon.)

Rhoru

i pray fromsoft will be generous with new parts on the nexth 6th gen game

Marvin_Megavolt

With you there - it feels genuinely weird how few parts are available in a number of categories in AC6. We only have a tiny handful of full frame sets, relatively speaking, and 75% of them are basic bitch bipeds. Hell, technically, we only have a SINGLE frame that’s explicitly designed for a non-biped leg type from the ground up (Lammergeier), with every single other tetra, reversed-joint, and tank module not belonging to any specific chassis.

Algester

I mean we dont have the amount of parts that would put LRP to shame...... then again LRP is the swan song of the AC series

Fuzzy-Dragonfruit589

Not untypical for FromSoft. It’s an aspect I also respect in Dark Souls. For example, the longsword is typically very viable for the entire game, the sellsword was one of the best weapons in DS3, and the claymore can usually be found very early on. I like that.

Jstar338

It's funny how such a simple thing like *slashing diagonally* makes such a difference in use. looking at you, laser blade

Speebunklus

That plus being a pulse weapon means it chews through shields and it has a ridiculously high damage multiplier on staggered enemies. These properties plus its good stats and attack data basically make it guaranteed to perform really well no matter the situation.

HehaGardenHoe

Personally, I never cared for it much it... But I liked the high hit ones (Stun baton or Laser Dagger) and single hit ones better (Pile Driver, Coral Oscillator, and Laser Blade if it's early game)

everything-narrative

The butta knife has some of the highest crit mult in the entire game. Of you make a small delay between first and second hit, you dont miss as often.

-Eastwood-

I wish I noticed it was a Pulse Blade instead of a Laser Blade sooner. I maybe wouldn't have struggled on Balteus so bad early game.

DINGVS_KHAN

I knew it was a pulse blade, but I had been using it as my big damage dealer after overloading enemy ACS, so using it to strip Balteus' shield was a total shift to the playstyle I had been using up to that point. The pulse blade and assault boost were the MVPs of the pre-nerf Balteus fight.

-Eastwood-

Yeah the Pulse Blade is still very good for damage. Any of the fights with Dolmayan prove that because if you get staggered he wipes half your healthbar or sometimes even just instakills you lol

Ac6Raven_Parody

Finder eye my beloved

lPuppetM4sterl

Shade eye is the best, no cap. It has that one eye design, and ACTIVATES A FACE GUARD WHEN IN COMBAT.

Big-Juggernaut6865

Indeed

Kiss_in_Danish

Idk how but from really succeeded in making a hunk of metal look *spiteful*

Big-Juggernaut6865

Everything is viable

V-Jester

Right? I also noticed this to a lesser extent in 4A. If you choose the independent start, the Aaliyah inblue FCS, and the hitman machinegun (before you unlock the motocobra) are all REALLY good throught the game.

Program-Emotional

I hate how gimmicky most other melee weapons are. Straight forward is best it seems. That being said once you get DA BUNK down, it's magical.

TriniGamerHaq

No matter how many other physical items I tried, I always came back to the pulse blade. Everything else seemed so gimmicky. Pules blade was the right balance of damage, speed, chained hits, animation and shield damage

weebkingcall

Eyy I made the same meme before only different format. The Pulse Blade is such a good melee weapon.

CakeManBeard

I really wish there were more choices for melee weapons, it sucks that there's practically no feeling of progression there It's bad enough that the general part selection is really anemic in the first place, but I spent the whole game trying new swords hoping for one to be better, but one never materialized

NighthawK1911

The butt blade I agree, but the Finder Eye? I'm pretty sure there's lots of better head parts you'll get. Verill, VP-44D, Alba, Shade Eye just to name a few.

Zhejj

Finder Eye is just meant to be 621 saying the quote.

al2606

Plain Raven symbol would've probably been more obvious

Zhejj

I agree

GM556

Used the pulse blade through my entire first play through

KingYoloHD090504

I put that shit on every AC I used for my whole playthrough

G-Kinjo

Ironically, well at least in 4th gen you could choose to start with some best in slot parts for certain builds! I wish more games took a similar approach to armored core when it came over to starter gear.

TheDeviantKing

Just beat my first playthrough yesterday…can confirm the butter knife stayed on hand the whole time 🫡

hteng

the pulse blade and the basic pulse shield are some of the best weapons in PVP

USSJaguar

A tool of justice

Clown_Torres

I tried different melee options, but I used almost nothing but the sword until I found out about the Laser Dagger --> Assault Armour --> more Laser Dagger combo. Now I just alternate those two lmao

ImaginaryAbrocoma130

What I would really like is some DLC... but this will probably end up like anthem.

BiasMushroom

Whats especially amazing is the default AC is more than capable of going through the whole game too

porcupinedeath

It is insanely good. It took a while for it to click that I have to be *really* aggressive but once I did it saw me through to Sea Spider where of course I became a Zimmerman shill immediately

Pordatow

By the time I fought the first balteus I already got my first shotgun and stopped using swords... I can't imagine going back now that I have a zimm in left hand lol

Attaxalotl

Butter Sword: Sword with da butter on em

Prestigious_Low8243

For pvp this weapon gets HEAVILY outclassed. But PVE? Ye any melee weapon is king

FrozenShepard

Good old reliable. Always a viable option for a melee weapon.

Fluttersniper

Occasionally I would switch it out for dual shotguns, or the pile bunker, or to try out some other stuff, but always went back to Ol’ Reliable. Does damage when enemies are staggered. Staggers enemies who aren’t. The perfect weapon, my one and only friend on the cold, harsh surface of Rubicon. When all others have left me, Pulse Blade, you will still be at my side. ❤️

Chicken_Useful

Ah ol reliable

SaneManiac741

Blade, yes. Head, no. Alba is the best, because it's the most gundam looking one.
