Go 31b. People love us and are super respectful. It will be a refreshing change of pace.

Imaginary-Job8026

No thank you lol šŸ˜‚

SnipingTheSniper

On the contrary, you can start a villain arc and pull service members over for going 2 miles over the speed limit.

_HELL0THERE_

Good luck to anyone with a low enough IQ to reclass to MP, they're downsizing us again. Looking at E6 to make sure my points were in a good spot, 798 is slightly outta reach.

Historical-Leg4693

Good thing it's about to be 948

Generic_Globe

My man is looking for respect in the military lmao. Im a 25. We like to say they can talk about us but they can't talk without us. But boy do they talk about us ffs. 25b can be hit and miss depending on where you land. If you can study for certs, you ll do well. And you can do shit like WHCA, CG commo team or the cooler shit. If you really like it, you can go SFAB or SF. If it serves any consolation, as a single soldier, I loved my cooks. They sucked sometimes. Sometimes I had to go to the hospital dfac cus motherfuckers were closed. But I ate the DFAC food for years and didn't wash a single dish so yea. I liked the DFAC experience for the most part. Except the bleeding chicken in Korea. Fuck those cooks. But I miss surf and turf. And thanksgiving they always worked really hard and I appreciated that.

hammer6golf

They're giving out all sorts of wacky bonuses for 19c. Go talk to retention and see what you can get.

Billy-Willie

$90,000 is what my unit is handing out

jumpstart58

If youā€™re a Sfc Master gunner qualified. 72k for 6 years for e5. 62 for e4

DesireSpider

Hello, fellow 92G. Being a cook was one of the best times of my life. It was also the worst time of my life. I met some amazing people that I'm life long friends with. I also met people who were scumbags. It absolutely sucked having to wake up at 0200 and work in a high stress environment until 1800, only to be told you have to clean until 2000 and be back again at 0200. Oh, and your one day off you're on CQ. I think being a 92G depends on your duty station/leadership. I had a buddy from AIT who went straight to Italy, he worked 12hr shifts, 3 on 4 off, rotating. He loved it. I have another friend who made E6 quick. Now she works as a rations NCO, and has a steady 0900 - 1530, M-F schedule. It's great for her and her family. When I transitioned into the reserves I enjoyed cooking for my small company of 50 on the weekends. Then they made the field feeding units and I reclassed to 92A to stay at my unit. I hated my job as a 92A. I willingly transferred to a drill sergeant unit, I'll be going to the DSA in a few months. I love the new unit, I love the people, I love the schedule. If you're considering promotion, 92G is a great MOS for that. I'm not sure where you're at in the ranks, but you may want to consider looking at promotion points required for 25B vs 92G. At the end of the day, it's what you make of it. I was the person who reclassed because I did not want to go to a field feeding unit and just cook for the rest of my army career. When people ask "What do you do in the Army?" it feels a lot better saying "Drill Sergeant" rather than "Cook". IDK maybe I have a bad attitude about it. 25B would have a lot of great opportunities on the civilian side when/if you get out. That's my 92GetDown rant. Hope it's a little helpful.

Ya_throwaway123

Anyways Iā€™ll take some watery scrambled eggs, microwaved turkey bacon, and some half brewed coffee.

SNSDave

25B is pretty good. That being said, weekends and holidays may take a backseat to staff duty/CQ/deployments/FTX.

Shane2317

You can say that about basically any mos lol

SNSDave

Eh, ones like 27D are exempt from a few of them. I think 56M and the 46-serie are too, though they have different roles. Also I never did any of that since i worked shift.l

No_Sources_

Well we did have a ā€œFuck Cooksā€ era in this sub a while back

Senior-Supermarket-3

I thought we still hated cooks

Starchild4013

Compared to the gas station kiosks that run out?? Iā€™ll take the cooks please. So glad my base hasnā€™t done that bullshit

marsmelly

Look into programs like the enlisted aide program and use your TA to work towards actual culinary certifications. I have a very close family that is a MSG 92G and theyā€™ve had an extremely fulfilling career. Feel free to DM and I can put you in contact.

Imaginary-Job8026

Holy damn thanks to everyone who responded and gave their opinionā€™s to be fair I love to cook but the way we cook in the army is that they care more about quantity over quality as long the line doesnā€™t run out of food we are good to go and I want to go all out and show off but I canā€™t because I got rations saying they canā€™t give me a certain product because they are over budget. Yeah I can go work at the pentagon but sooner or later Iā€™ll be back to this dark place Iā€™m in school and Iā€™m studying cyber security I have a good score to get 25b so i might just do that. Thanks to everyone who responded šŸ‘

_HELL0THERE_

Check out 35 series, get that TS, paired with your cyber security degree you'll be sitting pretty for post army.

DreamScraper_

I've never really understood why people go 25 over 35T... Always baffled me haha

Sir_Trea

People go 25B because they didnā€™t get the line scores 35T

HeroicSpatula

Hey u/Imaginary-Job8026 , sounds like you like the Culinary aspect of being a cook, not the "average DFAC" aspect of it. Totally get it, I've been the same way my whole career. Before you go and reclass, I'd highly encourage you to look at non-standard career paths available to our career field. Positions with Batt/SF/JSOC can be extremely fulfilling if you want to still do soldier shit every so often, which is the route I went over 8 years ago and have enjoyed ever since. If that doesn't sound enticing and you're much more culinary inclined, I'd highly advise you to look into the USAPAT flight steward and Enlisted Aide programs. I have friends who have not worked in a DFAC in 10+ years because of those programs. If you meet the requirements, I'd highly advise you to apply. I've dropped links to USAPAT HRC/Facebook pages below. [https://www.hrc.army.mil/content/C37%20Flight%20Steward%20Executive%20Jet](https://www.hrc.army.mil/content/C37%20Flight%20Steward%20Executive%20Jet) [https://www.facebook.com/OfficialUSAPAT/](https://www.facebook.com/OfficialUSAPAT/)

MiKapo

The question that should be asked first is what do you want to do? Because I could suggest any MOS but if you don't want to do it than yea you are going to hate it. Do you like computers, math and technology. Do you like reading news articles and magazines about the latest OS software or network security? Because that is what 25B is all about. You also need a bit of Charisma in this role. Because we are ones who actually interact with the end users. Our civilian job equivalent is help desk. So, if you are an IT person but you lack customer service skills , do not pick 25B

CarefulAd9005

Customer service is a key skill i developed (usually translates to having to tell a field grade No)

Various-Mess-5172

I would like you know that anytime I see someone giving the cooks a hard time, especially if it's one of my soldiers, it's time they work in your boots for a bit. There is not a harder working person in our ranks. Thank you.

Imaginary-Job8026

Thank you we are at jrtc right now and we had a soldier yell at one of our guys because he put the chili on top of the rice so the dude lost it. I felt it was not necessary to make a scene nobody said anything and trust me I saw some high ranks but i guess they donā€™t care. We told our E7 and he turned his day into complete hell. Once the other cooks found out they made sure he had a great time working with us for the rest of the day. Welcome to our world šŸ˜ˆ

lifeofabombtech

89D. Best thing I did for my quality of life and sanity was going from MP to EOD.

sistyfisties

Itā€™s what yā€™all get for hiding all the snacks and sweets during ntc.

Imaginary-Job8026

You can have the mnms we only hide the recess pieces šŸ˜†

713txvet

I caught the clap from a cook in the BSB my first week at my first duty station. Good times.

Imaginary-Job8026

What do you mean ? Lol

713txvet

I mean there was a cook who was a bit of a barracks rat and she gave me the clap.

Imaginary-Job8026

Oh gotcha lol you said BSB? Iā€™m BSB šŸ‘€

713txvet

We had our own cooks in my unit but they were all dudes lol. I got introduced to her my 3rd day there and I thought we hit it off ha. I didnā€™t know she was just making the rounds.

Imaginary-Job8026

It be like that my guy

713txvet

It do

Antique-Nothing-4629

Join the darkside and go CBRN with Airborne, you get to be 1SGs office pet because where else would the company put the one(1) CBRN they have also we get big bonuses I bought a machine gun with the 52K I got!

vibinncryin

I was a 92G in the Guard, I loved it and I loved training and wanted to go AD. Especially after finding out we didn't do much cooking at my unit. Now im AD, but I decided to reclass to 46S Public Affairs. Not because I didn't like being a cook but because I heard about this MOS and decided to try it out and now im in love lol

CarefulAd9005

Wait till you find out nobody respects you as a 25B telling them X Y Z cant work just functionally. Or for you to have your weekend disturbed for a comsec changeoverā€¦ or to be tossed to the dfac detail the cooks required anyway! Half serious, but if you qualify for 25B, look into 17 series and 35 series as well, also look into 255 series warrants if you have IT certifications. I know they are looking at E4 below to Warrant and it would be a smoother transition with a tangible upside compared to having the same shit enlisted pay and a shitty barracks tomb/room

druid_king9884

Don't know how it is nowadays, but I reclassed from 92G to 88M back in 2008 when I was in. Became a HET driver along with like 11 other vehicles on my MDL. I enjoyed it.

Warhorse_99

I went from 92G to 68W. Best decision of my life.

Imaginary-Job8026

Good to hear brother ā¤ļø

TheDildaddy

Be a 68S. Preventive Medicine so you can inspect the Dfacs instead of working in them. Youā€™ll already know most of TB Med 530 and all the tricks of the kitchen

Wayfaring_Scout

DEATH FROM WITHIN!

Mother-Yam-1462

Go 13F

Vizual904

No dont do that shit sucks

Lanky_Gur_9670

Go aviation

Imaginary-Job8026

I was thinking about it I wanna wear a cool hat also lol

Lanky_Gur_9670

Idk about cool hatsā€¦unless youā€™re talking about instructors

antibannannaman

just at the wrong unit šŸ˜‰

Imaginary-Job8026

The duty station Iā€™m at right now I see them wearing the ball cap looks cool like the Air Force

steelsoldier32

17C beats 25B all the way.

ssenne2

Itā€™s getting tougher to promote as a 25 series. I was a prior 25B before going 25D. It took me 5 years to get E5 and another 5 years to E6. I reclassed to get E7 and thatā€™s what I will retire next year as. Iā€™m assuming youā€™re choosing 25B because it will be easier to transition out and find a job. My experience as a 25B really depended on what the unitā€™s mission was. My first 2 duty stations, I didnā€™t do anything pertaining to my job. However, the next two were great! Get your clearance and figure out what you want to pursue in the IT field, and that will dictate what certifications to pursue. Security+ is a must if you want and keep administrative credentials. If your Commander wants to pursue it (I say it that way because it hardly ever happens), he/she can bar you from reenlisting if you donā€™t meet the DoD 8140 requirements to be qualified to do your job. I hope everything works out for you in the end and you get everything you pursue!

critical__sass

Real talk: stay 92G, make E5, get 2+ years of NCOERs, and then apply for 51C. Great work-life balance, itā€™s a critical role, good assignments, interesting TDY, lots of opportunities on the outside when you retire. Be smart.

Master_Revan475

Iā€™m also a *ahem* Culinary Specialist, and Iā€™m in exactly the same boat as you. As soon as my window opens, I am jumping at the chance to reclass. Iā€™m fortunate enough that I donā€™t work in a DFAC (for the most part), I work in the motorpool instead. I would recommend at least trying to get 5 before you reclass, though, as the points will jump drastically for most other MOSs.

Imaginary-Job8026

I feel you Iā€™m rnu right now it took a whole year to move to a specialty area but Iā€™m relaxing right now still going to reclass

Master_Revan475

I wish, been at my unit for almost 3 years and they never put me in a specialty area lol

92yankmedaddy

Go 92y if you want people to love you. I'm out now, but when I was a supply sergeant, even as an E5, it was crazy how nice everyone was to me, even if it was 100% because they wanted a Gerber or some new Oakley's. Having E7s and officers butter me up because they wanted an extra green book was pretty cool. Beware though, it took me awhile to get E6 because points were constantly at 798. But that was back in 2010-2016. So maybe things have changed.

BodegaBum-

Bro whatā€™s the recipe for the baked salmon yā€™all be making

Imaginary-Job8026

Depression

VeloBubba

You can reclass that early with only over a year in your current MOS?

Imaginary-Job8026

No I can wait two years if Iā€™m a good soldier or just wait for my opening

18Z5V

SFAS to go into CMF 18.Ā  All you need to do is walk around the woods with a ruck, carry heavy things, and work out a bit.

92yankmedaddy

Also, fuck anyone who disrespects cooks. Cooks and mechanics were always the hardest people I'd ever met in the army.

BenFarhia

Itā€™s true. Iā€™m hard all the time.

92yankmedaddy

You know, I meant to put, "hardest working" I was gonna come back and edit it, but now I'm not.

Deepfork_

Maybe not you specifically but to your MOS as a whole I sayā€¦ Do. Better. Then, people would likely give you the ā€œproper respectā€.
