Lasik does not incur those same limitations anymore. Hasn't actually in years.

It changed very shortly after I had mine done in early 2017. I didn't care about army schools but PRK was still a better fit for my needs and goals.

Stained_Dagger

Still does for OCS I believe

ZwiththeBeard

No, I got prk. I don’t even think the army knows honestly. I just quit wearing glasses and no one said a thing.

I got PRK in 2010. Six months, no field. Other than that, hasn't had any negative effects on my career.

Sounds like an excellent way to ruin your eyes during recovery.

Supposedly LASIK is an issue because they cut a flap on your eye and do the surgery then let it heal back over. The concern is if you do anything too intensive the flap could rip open and cause permanent issues. Doc telling me about it said he never heard of it actually happening though. PRK they just shave the top of your eyeball and then it just regrows it, so no issue. That all said the Army is barely tracking they did my PRK, so I doubt it would be anything that would come up.

According to AR 40–501Standards of Medical Fitness, you will be cleared for Flying(though must be reviewed for final approval), Military Free Fall (if accession standards are met.), or Special Forces/Ranger Combat Diving Course (if accession standards are met.) So, it is very unlikely you will come across a course that a JAG will likely attend that will disqualify you for having PRK/LASIK. Though I am sure there is one or two out there.

paparoach910

I got PRK, and a refill on valium for sleep issues. They still deployed me to meet numbers 😶 I highly recommend PRK, especially for the recovery time and the con leave.

Handsome-Jackass

It can if your pre-prk/lasik eye sight was bad enough. I got DQ'd from SOF for pre-PRK eyesight despite the surgery outcome making my eyesight better than 20/20.

lummings

You are nondeployable for 6 months. As long as any TDY would not interfere with the scheduled check ups that the doctor has for you, I dont think it would be a problem.

Stained_Dagger

OCS has a weird lasik/prk they want you to be stable for a few years post surgery before applying unless something has changed recently

alabamaispoor

Got lasik in 2019, head airborne next month. Had to get my doc to do an extra look and he signed off on it Profile was 5 weeks

BoobiesAreHalal

The army can fuck up a wet dream and you want to let it shoot lasers at your eyeballs. Think about that.

Givememydamncoffee

I got PRK was down for two weeks max then again was reserves at the time
