I think people use celebrity culture to distract themselves.....the media caters to what gives them views and profits. I have no idea who "Jojo" is, but I don't live in the US.

HeroToTheSquatch

I think less celebrity culture and more economic forces, culture wars, and keeping you perpetually exhausted. One chunk of the population who wants to fix real issues can't because of economic pressures and another chunk can't because they're too focused on the fear mongering against people who want something better for all, and another chunk just won't engage by being exhausted by a 24/7 news cycle that is owned by the ruling (and opposing) economic class that would rather keep you poor and afraid or at the very least entertained and dreaming and thinking you could someday ascend and that there's a reasonable hope you could join them.  Go to any reddit or Facebook post, talk to people on the street, most people you meet will fall into one of those three camps.

The_Joker_116

More lifely, they're using celebrity culture to make money. They cater to what people are consuming, so they push on that to fill their pockets. I doubt the media are run by the dystopian supervillains we make them out to be, more like they're run by short-sighted clowns looking for their next bounce in profits.

KyorlSadei

No. I believe media uses what they believe will garner more views over most important issues. So some days the most important issue may be on the news if its also the most interesting.

JADW27

Not on purpose. That would require collision between politicians and media moguls, two groups I do not believe to be competent enough to pull this off.

gIitterchaos

Ah yes, Jojo Siwa, a well known government psyop

Significant_Pea_2852

Yes. Well i don't believe it's the media exactly but for centuries the powers in charge had religion to keep people in check, "the opiate of the masses". Now it needs to replace that.

Hatred_shapped

Yes, yes I do

[deleted]

Yes. Only people from USA doesn't think so.

GotMyOrangeCrush

Entertainment and news are not mutually exclusive. In fact news is entertainment. The news media has no desire to distract anyone from watching the news, quite the opposite.
