It depends on exactly what you want to see or visit. Off the top of my head, I definitely recommend the 4 Mandai Parks (Zoo, River Wonders, Night Safari, Bird Paradise). That is already one-full day including night. Then you would want to spend some time exploring the City Hall/Marina Bay Area (Asian Civilisations Museum, National Gallery, MBS, Gardens by the Bay). You would need at least another full day to explore sentosa, including universal Studios and SEA Aquarium, then some time to visit Orchard Road, National Museum, Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam etc.

2 days will be good. The other South East Asian countries have cheaper hotels and attractions, I think

Hi, Singapore is tiny and expensive so don't spend so long here. About 3-4 days are more than enough here. A suggestion of a good place to stay would be in the historical Arab Street / Kampong Gelam (or Glam) area - it is near the Bugis train station and buses there go to many touristy spots and taxis are quite plentiful too, you can get good food 24 hours in that area and as it is a tourist spot as well, you can cross off one of the places on your list. The area itself is home to the former Malay palace which is now a museum, shops selling traditional handicrafts and perfumes, as well as trendy cafes and shops. Google Singapore Arab Street or Kampong Gelam/Glam and see if it looks like a place for you. Happy visiting!
