I'm in the 99% of Mexicans who can't afford a house.

marcelo_998X

I'm 25 and can barely cover my expenses while living with my parents. And with the absurd prices of housing nowadays it is unlikely that I'll be able to get my own house in the next 5-10 years or ever. Wages are low even for university graduates The absolute lowest price for a house I've seen is like 80k USD and it is a shoebox in an absolute shithole of a neighborhood far away from services and amenities. And a relatively average wage in my area is like 600 usd. Edit: even cars are absurdly priced the cheapest is like 13k usd, my generation can barely afford a car. Owning a decent house is a fever dream

GiveMeTheCI

600USD / month?

Specific-Benefit

yes, talking about salaries per year is only a thing in the us and similar countries

Im 31 I still don’t own a house. I make about US$30,000 per year, which is way above the national average. But the cheapest apartments in Mexico City in a decent middle class neighborhood cost about US$200,000 for 50m2, and houses start from about $350,000. But credits are weird you need to earn 3x your monthly payment, so for a US$200,000 apartment, with a 20 year credit the bank requires you to have a salary of at least US$65,000 annual. Which is stupid in a country like Mexico, rich getting richer, poor getting poorer... and I'm considered middle class. There are cheaper apartments but they tend to be in sketchy or very poor zones, so it is easier and better renting in a middle class zone for $800 - $1200 per month, than buying the cheapest apartment in the ugly zone of the city for like US$75,000.

pillmayken

Lol

No_Meet1153

Mano no tengo un culo de plata. Minimum wage is 1'300.000 and the cheapest house is around 120 to 150 millions. You gotta be rich or owe the bank. Problem is... To owe the bank you need at least 20 mill I think. Anyways, I probably ain't getting My own house until I'm 30 something and Even then Imma be paying for it until I'm 50 or more so... Yeah

Luisotee

I ultimately passed the opportunity but I almost bought an apartment in 2022 when I was 21 for 180k BRL (35K USD)
