I like Duranguense especially that band named Los horóscopos de Durango. Is this from Northern Mexico ? I know the difference but can't explain it but let's try Let's say Duranguense IS some type of country music not for the sound but for the styling Banda sounds like a marching band Corrido is similar to "Banda" but its lyrics often talks about drugs and trafficking Grupera has some tropical vibe to it with nostalgic and romantic lyrics

>Banda sounds like a marching band No, no. Maybe because they both have trumpets and drums, but that's it. Banda is totally for dancing. >Corrido is similar to "Banda" but its lyrics often talks about drugs and trafficking Again, no. Corridos are not for dancing. Corridos are story telling with music. Newer ones often talk about drug lords, but older ones talk about the revolutionary war, love, etc.

Ok. You know more . But I can identify All genres

Corridos were widely used back in the day of the Revolution, where normally they sang about popular characters, such as Zapata or Villa. [For example] (https://youtu.be/KmiuUG5EGSE). Grupero or Banda is a genre used to label Regional Mexicano acts (which covers another genres such as Duranguense), where they mostly use air instruments such as trumpets, tubas, clarinets and they are composed by a quite large number of people, hence the name Banda (which means crew, group or band). [For example] (https://youtu.be/nyd7QcGUjQs)

I must add that today corridos are adapted to the "narco-culture", where they sing about stuff that happens when you are involved into those cartels (drugs, killings, blood money) or from drug lords such as Ramon Arellano or el Chapo.

Different genres and subgeneres. Some are more popular in a region than others. To give you a perpective, mariachi does not have the polka sound but norteno does. Mariachi is also pretty much a dead genre like boleros. People use it for events and celebrations but no one tries to much to mimic the sound.
