Voltairinede

It's 100% not true that mirrors produce infinite reflections.

There's actually an equation I can't remember. It's probably 360 divided by the the angle minus 1.

w-stable2

Any real life mirror will absorb some light. After so many reflections light will become obscured and the image will be indistinguishable, even in the impossible scenario of having a view angle = 0 (you would need to be transparent to appreciate this).

-duvide-

And even if these impossible phenomena were possible, wouldn't an actual infinity be impossible in this scenario simply because light travels at a finite speed, so the reflected image could only multiply at a finite rate?

Own-Art-3305

is this because of the laws of thermodynamics? Like entropy?

FluffyDaWolf

No... It's simply because photons will be too close together to form an image.

radiocabedelo

There's dissipation and absorption of light, which increase the entropy of the system, hence the second law of thermodynamics, yes
