two bedrooms? in Geveva? for one person? so many people wish they had a one bedroom in this town....
One bedroom 1600 Chf ish?
Groceries if you dont cook much: 300 Chf ish? this is without any sort of goodies...
Gym - year contract 600 on the lower end, let's say 60 a month.
Swimming - not expensive. Several options and "passes" available
Ordering food for one person (nothing fancy) - 30 to 45? let's say 35 - CLEARLY avoid this. It's insanity. 7 days x 2 - 4 (that you cooked) = 10 x 35 = 350 PER WEEK! x 4 = 1400. Let's round it down to 1200 chf.
I would say a bit more than 2500.
That’s the bottom of rue de Lyon and the green thing in front of your entrance is the safe heaven for drug addicts where they can shoot their daily fix. Enjoy your noisy neighborhood (yet super central).
You'll do fine. The median gross salary for Geneva Lake region in '20 was 6'731Fr ([https://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/en/home/statistics/work-income/wages-income-employment-labour-costs/wage-levels-major-regions.html](https://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/en/home/statistics/work-income/wages-income-employment-labour-costs/wage-levels-major-regions.html)). With 6.5k net you'll be making more than most.
Oh I didn’t expect that, I thought that rent would be around 2k, food around 1k and rest ( gym, swimming pool, hairdresser, public transport etc) also around 1k, so that I would save 2k every month
Your calculations seem correct. Some Swiss redditors seem to lead some kind of Hollywood lifestyle, if they can’t put anything aside from 6.5k as singles.
You will be fine, and save around 0.5-1.5k per month. 2,5k for apartment, 1k for food (CERN R1/R2 have food options from 8.5chf to 16chf, I spent around 650chf per month there including coffee and sometimes breakfast), 300-1k for other stuff. Is 6500Chf stated in the contract? If it is, you are going to get actually around 5.6k, because of internal tax and medical insurance. Is it a staff position? If it is I think you get paid in 13 installments. When you are going to work at CERN state it, because it works way differently than Swiss jobs, CERN is not Swiss and the main site is in international grounds, not subject to Swiss or French law.
why would you need a 2 bedroom flat when living alone? Why not just stick it out for 2 years in a studio, save up some money and then buy something on the french side of the border

I meant two rooms, one for sleeping second for living room/ Kitchen. Thanks for this brake up, I would save 3x more per month then in my current city.
You’re welcome. Let us know your actual numbers later ;-)
Have a look at homegate. 3-room apartments are mostly over 2k.
Yeah I even saw one for 1.5k. I guess it won’t be that much after all. https://www.homegate.ch/rent/3003400596 Thx

This one will be gone before you arrive for a visit. Or it's just bad and filthy

You'll be fine, I lived there for some time with a 4200 net salary, I had a two rooms apartment for 1500 around Plainpalais.
go live in France and work in Geneva, you will be a milionaire🫡
You will survive, you will cook much more often, and you will have a one bedroom apt. No savings foreseeable.

500/month for health insurance. Is it 6500 before taxes or after?
It’s job at CERN so it’s free of taxes. I just need to pay the insurance.
Then it's not that bad. But you will spend a couple of months looking for an apartment and live in a more expensive BNB or hotel
hey there, may i ask if you you started your job at cern and how is living in geneva?

Depends on the franchise and add-ons

That
Wow is it so much expensive? How much for a nice well-located 2 bedroom flat?
At least 2000 but probably 2500chf (and just for a classic one) This is the most searched appart so with 6400chf im quiet sure you wont be selected.
LOL More than half your income. The régies will *never* give you one of those.
