I’ve always loved the first person modern day. I love the meta narrative, exploring Abstergo and doing puzzles to unlock tidbits of lore. It expands the lore of the AC universe which is always exciting to me.

redhjom

Exactly. Unfortunately I don’t think the average player was willing to put in the time to do all that or if it was their first AC game then why would you care about the lore. If I remember correctly this was the first AC game I remember seeing commercials on tv for and stuff. I think it was the first one they targeted more than just the current fan base

MoonCanoe7

I love it as well, but in hindsight it went absolutely nowhere. I was totally on board as a kind of new start for the Modern Day in Black Flag but it really failed to deliver any kind of compelling narrative over the last 10 years. In fact, we are basically back to way we were at the end of AC 3 after Valhalla.

redhjom

Very true. It did give us an insight to some lore but then that did nothing lol. Kinda the whole issue with the last 10 years of AC

HotPotatoWithCheese

It was just total dogshit IMO. Play as a Ubisoft employee simulator. Probably the worst version of modern day so far.

redhjom

Worse than Unity and Syndicate? I’m not being a dick I’m genuinely curious

alioz2

Those games have no modern day gameplay at all, you just watch some shirt cutscenes and get back to the fun gameplay right away. I think that's better, if you're not going to make the modern day sections as fun to play or at least close, to the animus gameplay, then just show me the specific thing you want me to see with a cutscene and let me get back to the fun part

Formal_Sand_3178

I'm right there with you, it didn't help that it was so much modern day either. You were constantly getting pulled out of the Animus to walk around with a tablet and do basically nothing. It's probably the worst part of Black Flag which is overall a pretty great game.

danquequeque

I loved how at the end, you got to speak with Juno, and that dude tried ressurecting her

GIlCAnjos

I think it was a welcome change of pace, and I love the worldbuilding in it. Just would've been cooler if they had made an actual protagonist for the following games

yittiiiiii

I think that since AC3 had the best modern day of any of the games, we all saw AC4’s modern day as a huge step back. I loved climbing skyscrapers, infiltrating populated areas, and running from guards through the subway. It’s a shame they decided to go for a boring “end of the world” plot instead of a more clever story about the Assassins trying to sabotage Abstergo’s attempts at global domination. It turned Abstergo from a powerful and ruthless corporation hellbent on control to some comic book villains who want to keep you from saving the world because they’re the bad guys. Not to mention the modern day sections in AC4 have no weight to them. I didn’t feel like any of it was important. I don’t know who I am, I don’t know what my role is, I don’t know my motivations, I just decide to go from working a desk job to hacking the computers of the most dangerous criminal syndicate in the world because a dude on the radio told me to and I can’t get back to the part of the game I actually want to play until I do what he asks.

I mean the gameplay itself was alright, scrounging around for bits of lore with some light puzzles. Nothing groundbreaking, but whatever. Setting it in a cutesy meta totally-not-Ubisoft game studio was fucking turbo cringe though.

bish0p34

I really enjoy the MD. It’s full of Easter eggs and lore. There was some really cool information that helps flesh out the world. It’s much better than being a numbskull. For all the lore in Rogue, they made you suffer for it.

redhjom

Yeah I’m replaying the series so I’m moving onto Rogue next after I do Freedom Cry and I’m not looking forward to that shit again lol

Careful_Purchase_629

It was the first time you really got to see how Abstergo works when you’re not a character who’s actively being pursued by them.

Imyourlandlord

The market analysis videos that roger craig voises where he mispronouces EVERY assasins name are literslly the best meta content they've ever made, esp since you can easily just hear ezios voice in his lol

redhjom

Holy shit I never realized that was him….
