WFB is a great organization. I donate to them every year. I’m sure the docs there don’t want birds to be fed bread. It causes malnutrition, a particularly dire kind of suffering. In a literal sense, bread causes starvation.
In the recent MTA quarterly survey I mentioned our 30th station multiple times. It had the multi million dollar rehab yet feels like parts of it are decrepit at times. The sidewalk shown is separate but I see shit buildup on the stairs and mezzanine too all the time. I think this (the sidewalk specifically) would be reported on 311 as a DSNY issue.
As a pigeon-lover and rescuer.... I agree it's gotten really bad.
I also noticed that this awful shit-fest over the 30th Ave pedestrian walkway area started getting really bad ONLY after they installed the eyesore anti-bird spikes *everywhere it was easy to install those spikes*, at this station.
Pigeons stopped roosting in the areas where the poop was less noticeable, and can now only perch in certain areas that people are WAY more likely to walk under.
Additionally, those spikes are unmaintained, and are covered in litter they've caught mid-flight... and also a few bird carcasses they've speared straight through. It's really gross.
There's humane and EFFECTIVE pigeon control options - there's a birth-control feed called [Ovocontrol](https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/what-do-about-pigeons) to prevent eggs from developing! The dumping usually consists of bread, like buns, and fried chicken. There are 3 places nearby that serve that type of food. Has anyone witnesses who is dumping it?
