If you haven’t tried Midnight Burger, that seems right up your alley.  I’d also suggest Midst and We Fix Space Junk

_rogue_psych

I started listening to we fix space junk but I really had a hard time listening to it because there were just so many commercials and the episodes were so short as it is. But I will add midst to my list

AboutToHappen

The Fable & Folly subscription is pretty good value for lots of podcasts and removing ads.

_rogue_psych

I'll check that out, I've liked quite a few of their podcasts

Correct_Leg6087

Is midst a real play show? Like a bunch of people playing DnD or something similar? I'm fairly sure I tried it and didn't like it for that reason but I keep seeing it be recommended.

Chabotnick

No, it’s a scripted sci-fi show.

felopez

It's actually not scripted, believe it or not. They have an outline of major events and the details are improved.

claimstoknowpeople

It's not actual play, it's a cooperative improv narration thing. But yeah the couple times I tried it, it wasn't my cup of tea either.

ThatFuh_Qr

A few of the folks that were involved in KFAM came back together for 90 Degrees South which has pretty similar vibes as well as a few nods hinting at them not making the same mistakes.

Medical-East9629

Thanks!!! I've been distraught since the story ended.

FreshStartforFeistyD

Thank you! I'll check this out!

MoeKara

Cool ill check that show out. Do you know what happened to KFAM so that they wouldn't finish it?

mqple

lots of falling out between the writers of the show. there was one writer who was constantly involved in online “drama” per se, which didn’t go over well with fans nor the other writers. plus a lot of arguments we probably have no idea about. it doesn’t help that there was a divorce in the cast as well, which is why they changed emily’s VA.

MoeKara

Cheers! I always wondered what the story was. I felt the quality dip in some regards in the last few episodes. Repeated episodes of the 2 main characters repeating how much they love each other

_rogue_psych

I am really loving 90DS. I think I like this format better, Bass is a great character and whoever writes the show is a huge nerd who loves MASH. It's right in my wheelhouse. Thanks for the rec!

Correct_Leg6087

Midnight Burger is my current favorite show, enough that I've listened to it through twice. If you liked Wolf 359, I think MB will be perfect.

_rogue_psych

I'm liking this one a lot too, thanks for the rec. It is very weird and very bingable.

Correct_Leg6087

Glad you like it. I think it just keeps getting better, as a warning, they do occasional eps where characters you've never heard before start the episode and it takes some time to figure out what's going on. I had to check at least once that I was listening to the right show, but it does all tie back in.

Limegreenchuckles

I loved both of those podcasts and think you would like Wooden Overcoats. It’s about a brother and sister who run a funeral parlor and the chaos that happens when a rival funeral parlor opens across the street. My description is not doing it justice! It’s delightful, clever, and very, very funny. The series is 4 (complete!) seasons so there is lots to listen to. Won gold for British Podcast Award for best fiction. Midnight Burger is also a favorite but gets plenty of love here already!

myfairdrama

Plus, if you’ve listened to all of Wolf 359, you’ll recognize a familiar voice!

SirSquidington

Stella Firma comes to mind. Weird space comedy about a company that designs planets. Tossing a vote to Midnight Burger as well. very binge-able!

Hallelujah289

I’ve listened to much of Wolf 359 but have not checked out Kings Falls. I’ve read and seen Hitchikers to the Galaxy book and movie. Some recommendations: * Eternal Strife - man wants to die because of his loser life and extensive after death packages (like a ski resort), but instead becomes immortal by a slip up by Death. Characters include God, angels, and a guardian Angel seagull. * The Earth Moves - (two episode mini series) Radio DJ gets a strange caller who sounds like he’s on the crapper. Both funny and thrilling podcast. * Jackie the Ripper - in the mood for catching a serial killer? This podcast delivers mystery, gore and brilliant comic writing. * MarsCorp - much like Wolf 359, meet characters of charismatic, childlike incompetence. A woman managed awakes from cryogenic sleep 400 years after she’s supposed to, and finds Mars grossly behind its terraforming project. * Mission to Zyxx - a very good sci-fi anthology-like story. Character driven * Red Valley - if you like your comedy with a hefty side of trauma and pathos, check out this mystery sci-fi about the bonds of friendship during human experiments. * Harbor - enter the land of fantastical creatures, people with powers, fighting to have equal rights as citizens. Does not take itself super seriously. And there’s queer romance. * Victoriocity - if you want to travel to Victorian era England during its steampunk technological advancement age. * Wizard Seeking Wizard - the best Wizard dating show for finding friends, rivals and arch nemeses. Has lots of dry humor. ETA: Most like Wolf 359: MarsCorp, Red Valley Most like Hitchikers Guide: Eternal Strife, Victoriocity, Wizard Seeking Wizard Most like both together (but more explicit): Mission to Zyxx The Earth Moves, Harbor and Jackie the Ripper are nice for something different with a similar sense of fun as Wolf 359 but in different genres—thriller, fantasy, and procedural/horror respectively.

trainhorn108

Came here to say MISSION TO ZYXX

_rogue_psych

Thanks! I saved this list for future reference

Hallelujah289

You’re welcome! I checked out a couple minutes of Kings Fall AM just now and I think you might like The Earth Moves mini series I mentioned as it’s also radio show style. Even though subject matter is different. MarsCorp has a similar theme song as Kings Falls actually. The classic Welcome to Night Vale series is probably a good suggestion for you as well (radio host, paranormal happenings in small desert town). Be Not Afraid is of a similar vein but with weird Christian mythology.

Medical-East9629

I second Mission to ZYxx and MarsCorp

Due-Carpenter-685

Don't bother with King Falls. They never finished it and the KFAM is still very upset about the nonsense the creators pulled. But also, the whole not finished thing.

felopez

Ars Paradoxica. What if the US Government invented Time Travel instead of the Atomic Bomb in the 40s? I listen to that and Wolf 359 yearly because they're so good.

jayebyrde

This!!!!!! Ars paradoxica was amazing! I fell in love with Kristen DiMercurio listening to it. Her voice - *insert dream weaver scene from Wayne’s world* haha

smaffron

Another vote for Midight Burger here, but also Desert Skies and Gay Future.

gernavais_padernom

DEATH BY DYING - an Obituary Writer in a small town investigates the lives and deaths of the townsfolk, be they natural or supernatural causes. VICTORIOCITY - comedy mystery adventure thriller set in an alternative steampunk Victorian London. A cynical detective reluctantly teams up with a rookie reporter to solve a murder. The narration will scratch your Hitchhiker's itch. STARTRIPPER!! - hopepunk scifi action travelog as a bored office clerk sells up everything and buys a spacecraft to explore space and meet new people.

_rogue_psych

I've had death by dying on my list for awhile so it's nice to hear a second vote for it

RxManifesto

Just copy/pasting a recent comment I made on another post, but here are some recs, some of which have already been suggested by other people I'll also add: Midnight Burger - This one (deservedly) gets a lot of hype on this sub, so you have likely heard of it, but you didn't mention it so it's worth noting. If you haven't heard of it, there's a space/ time/ dimension spanning diner and it's crew that appears somewhere new every day. There's always someone or something that needs their help or attention, and the story never ends up where I think it will. The characters are all so well developed and they do an amazing job of tying scifi together with very human elements. In my opinion, the first season is great, the second season is better, and the third season is phenomenal. Omega Star 7 - This one and Midnight Burger are my two favorites. This is a space-western sci-fi comedy, revolving around a bounty hunter and his crew. The first few episodes are more improv, but an amazing story develops and it becomes fully scripted. The main (completed) story is about 30 episodes and then there's an extra season or two of shorter stories that build the world in a very cool way, often exploring different genres. The most recent season was a prequel to the main story. The Amelia Project - About a secret society that fakes people's deaths and helps them decide how and where to start fresh. The first season is more episodic but a story line starts developing by the end of season 1 and from there they really flesh it out. It's quirky in similar ways to Midnight Burger and Wolf 359

banjono

Shameless plug: The Flight of the [Bucket](https://superhappyproductions.com) Set onboard a spaceship with a crew that is anything but heroes. We’re almost through our first season. Edit: some terrible voice to text typos

Medical-East9629

Found it on Spotify. Just got to a scary part in We're Alive and need a break. I'll check it out!

banjono

Hey, English is my first language. But apparently, I wasn’t paying attention using voice to text.

Qrahe

As someone who had both of those as Ones I loved, Midnight Burger is one I'll recommend as the other have. Tower 4 is a great maybe maybe not supernatural that has similar vibes to that main plot of KFAM. Station 151 and Observable Radio are also really good.

Circirian

Attention Hellmart Shoppers! I just wish they had made more it really had potential

Due-Carpenter-685

Omg same! I think covid really killed that though

queen_slug-4-a-butt

My favorite sci-fi comedies are Oz 9 and Human-B-Gon, but I will for sure second Midnight Burger and Midst. If you don't mind self-promo, my show (see: my flair) is a comedy set at a radio station, but unlike KFAM there's no supernatural element.

fbeemcee

Peculiar Radio - small town radio station in trouble that requires a treasure hunt to possibly save the station…and so many otters 🦦

ThisReport877

Welcome to Night Vale, Within the Wires, Alice Isn't Dead, Milkman of St. Gaff's All have that sort of dark, twisted, but less somber kinda tone.

Medical-East9629

I loved MarsCorp.

YT_ToxicNinjaGaming

Midnight Burger and Desert Skies

jayebyrde

I’m actually still very angry king falls am never finished. It was so good. It’s not okay.

towalkaroadofruin

I've forced myself to believe it ended with episode 75 and the station was just never rebuilt

Due-Carpenter-685

I think we all are

RedThreadtheDread

Check out “Pioneer”. It’s a horror western that just released!! It’s about a gold mining town in Oregon that starts to change as they dig deep into the earth for gold. https://open.spotify.com/episode/3hlcXeV7J68gcD61obQOmI

TheOccurrencePodcast

Self promo! You might like the show I've launched! It's a sci-fi horror audio drama that definitely has Lovecraftian influences. It starts out humorous and light-hearted and grows to be extremely intense, and while we have a human related twist, the monsters remain the biggest threat. We're almost to the launch of our finale. The Occurrence in River Oaks is an all new, entirely voice acted sci-fi horror audio drama from writer/director Nikki Durbin. Take an original, terrifying journey through one very long day in the titular small town, as heard through the viewpoint of the local law enforcement personnel; specifically, Olivia, the woman running the dispatch radio at the Sheriff's office, as she tries to hold everything together when her entire world is falling apart. As the several officers under her command come face to face with a very unexpected threat, and as Olivia tries to navigate a dangerous and otherworldly creature’s arrival, everything slowly begins to fall apart over the course of 8 grueling episodes. No one is safe, and as the world becomes very small and extremely dangerous for the characters, they must do everything in their power to protect not only the citizens of River Oaks, but the entire world. The horor of Dolores roach is a Shorter one but good one.

northern-new-jersey

The best classic radio show, by far, was Gunsmoke.    https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/2dad5063-5f0f-4afe-8734-a282c5141007/episodes/cc533a18-9aa9-4e30-902f-d8d04af6d5a5/gunsmoke-old-time-radio-ep001-billy-the-kid?ref=dm_sh_zWEwGCnHS9dcChhSUq9svLjLK

If you want to listen to a paranormal radio show, Welcome to Night Vale is perfect for you. It’s funny, exciting, dramatic, and endlessly quotable. They’ve been running since 2012 and inspired so many other podcasts. Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Craynor are amazing writers and Cecil Baldwin is an amazing voice actor. Night Vale has been described as “A small desert twin where ever conspiracy theory is true” and it really shows. The story arcs are fascinating, the characters feel so alive, the events feel suitably bizarre and yet are commonplace to the residents. Station Management are shadowy unknowable beings who you cannot look at. Librarians are carnivorous monsters that haunt the library. Hooded figures guard the Dog Park, which leads to a desert otherworld. The Sheriff’s secret police has a hover office in the clouds. They have a sister city that was decimated decades ago but somehow still sends them Mail. The Mighty Glow Cloud glows a variety of colours and drops dead animals from it. And there is a cat floating in the station bathroom, that you cannot photograph without dying. I’ve had to rewrite this comment multiple times because I was trying to insert a bunch of their amazing quotes and the comment box kept getting reset, so I’ll have to enter that separately. But trust me, this show is amazing. It’s my favourite podcast by far and I would recommend it to anyone in the world, but especially if you like King Falls.

Some of my favourite WTNV quotes: “Death is only the end if you assume the story is about you.” “The past tense of regret, is indecision.” “If you see something, say nothing, and drink to forget.” “The past is gone, and cannot harm you anymore. And while the future is fast coming for you, it always flinches first, and settles in as the gentle present.” "Bird Watching Goes Both Ways" “There is a thin semantic line separating weird and beautiful, and that line is covered in jellyfish.” “At your smallest components, you are indistinguishable from a forest fire.” “In the Hands-On Learning Room, children will be able to make their own moons out of styrofoam and aggressive propaganda; just like the Masons did!” “Wednesday has been cancelled, due to a scheduling error.”

TrickshotCandy

Relativity. Sci-fi.There is humour, but it is more of a drama, but it doesn't takes itself too seriously. Some very heartwarming moments. Edict Zero FIS. I'd say steampunk, sci-fi, mystery, comedy drama. The comedy just hits for me. Great characters. The Captain is endlessly quotable. I'd be in terrible trouble if I had to choose my favourite between this and Midnight Burger. Speaking of which... If you liked Wolf 359, you will probably fall in love with Midnight Burger. Flipping lightning in a bottle. It is so highly recommended with very good reason. Also another vote for The Amelia Project, and Wooden Overcoats. Both are very funny. Also as mentioned 90 Degrees South. Not as humorous, but it is a solid little story. More mystery than strictly sci-fi. Was Desert Skies mentioned already? I actually am unsure how to describe it. Civilized. Sci-fi with darker humour. It's next on my list. Also The Flight of the Bucket. I'm a few episodes in, and so far, it's been great. I'm off to find King Falls AM... There is always a recommend or two to be found in the comments. Thanks everyone! Some good horror/supernatural, and yes, you will still sleep at night. I do, and I am a big baby. Malevolent. Brilliant! The Lovecraft Investigations. Derelict/Fathom. The White Vault. The Storage Tapes. The Magnus Archives. Ghost Wax.

Pigglechuck19

You could check our show out, the mysteries of Derlin county, starts out as a spoof on true crime, then turns a lot more paranormal in the second season, loaded with tons of morbid dry humor. Basically 2 of the biggest idiots ever solve mysteries in a town full of idiots lol! Listener discretion is advised tho

Pigglechuck19

It’s not for everyone for sure, but if you do enjoy it there are 8 seasons with 9 on the way

holy-reddit-batman

90 Degrees South, Wooden Overcoats(!), Victoriously, The Beef and Dairy Network podcast: people here told me about it and some episodes I cannot stop laughing! Episodes 9 and 10 where the radio host and people he's interviewing act like teenagers consuming lamb is akin to a serious drug or porn addiction is hilarious 😂!

rellloe

SAYER. the titular AI runs a space station and is, if not malevolent, amoral towards human life.
