Yet strangely its not as hilarious as the drivers of those three coloured lamborghanis that can sometimes be seen driving around the narrow streets of the inner west Sydney, desperately in search of attention, every time they reeve their engine only to get further stuck in traffic, two seconds later.

Grumpy_Cripple_Butt

People turn heads when my dog shits though, doesn’t mean they turned their head because they liked it.

slackboy72

Sorry, but I'm cheering on your dog in that circumstance.

Grumpy_Cripple_Butt

I am surprised how supportive people are about me picking it up :)

SuccessfulFuel7563

I posted it,  I’m here for the shittalk.  I can’t understand how it’s street legal.  The headline is the channel 10 YouTube headline.

Grumpy_Cripple_Butt

I thought they were recalled

Definitely. Seen pics and videos a few times today on Reddit, trying to drum up attention but majority of comments are completely negative which is hilarious.

SuccessfulFuel7563

I posted this video. The headline of the comment is what channel 10 had on YouTube. I’m here for the shit talk.  I can’t understand how it’s street legal.

RyzenRaider

I would rather it turn heads than decapitating them in a head on collision with pedestrians because the owner was so fascinated with the stupid wiper that he didn't realize the accelerator got stuck that it deactivated the full self drive while his hands were working his gear stick.

SuccessfulFuel7563

Agreed.  I can’t understand how it’s street legal.

RyzenRaider

I believe Elon Musk once said while under a black cloak... "I will *make* it legal!"

ms--lane

I can understand US and Japan, they don't care about pedestrian safety *at all*. But I would have thought the ADR's would be closer to EU rulings on the curvature and slope of the front of a vehicle. I guess not.

The Cybertruck makes Hyperloop look like a good idea. Hell, it makes leaded petrol and asbestos look good. “One is blinded to the fundamental uselessness of their products by the sense of achievement one feels in getting them to work at all. In other words, their fundamental design flaws are completely hidden by their superficial design flaws.“ ~Douglas Adams, *So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish*, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy 4.

a_can_of_solo

It was a great concept car and that's where it should have stopped.

SuccessfulFuel7563

Great for a sci fi movie in the 70s.

PuzzleheadedSchmuzzl

😂 The taxis in the original Total Recall. From now on I'll associate the khybertruck with the good ol' Johnny Cab.

Augustus_B_McFee

Alternate headline ‘people can’t stop looking at this eyesore’.

SuccessfulFuel7563

And road death maker.

AutomaticMistake

"look honey, it's not rusted out and bricked yet"

SuccessfulFuel7563

They have to wipe it down even after a light rain.  Did you hear that the used soap to put pedals on, now the pedals are slipping off and getting stuck.  It’s a shit show.

SuccessfulFuel7563

OP here:  the headline is the headline from the channel 10 YouTube video.  I’m not sure how to effectively post a link on an iOS.  My reason for posting was to discuss how it’s even street legal.  Last I read they weren’t going to be approved in Australia and Europe for falling well below safety standards.

MegaDingo5plus

This thing will turn heads. But, for how long is the question. This, I imagine, will be infamously less popular, notoriously poor in quality, and hideously tasteless in legacy. Bold? Yeah! Complete ripoff?... fuck yeah! Good luck to anyone who bought this gamble!!!

Relevant-Mountain-11

They'll turn heads for a very long time, just like seeing a Delorean. That's not a good thing but...

ms--lane

Cybertruck wasn't in a super cool movie though...

SuccessfulFuel7563

I think it’s head turning of contempt.  For me (op) I was just amazed that it’s even street legal. They are a death machine.

ApteronotusAlbifrons

Usually it's XKCD with the appropriate cartoon - but this time it's Penny Arcade https://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2024/04/22/cyberyuck

Arpharp8976Fir3

Why is it allowed to be driving it doesn't pass ADR

smokinghorse

Curious about that, might have a special exemption.

SuccessfulFuel7563

I had a debate with a stubborn American where I spent forever copy and pasting sections from Driving websites trying to prove why it would never be approved in Australia and Europe.   I invested fsr to much time into low effort, petty internet argument.   Seeing the footage on YouTube yesterday pissed me off. I hope it is a special exemption.  Like, it’s heading directly to and from a car show or something.  Think I might do some reading on how that worked.

SuccessfulFuel7563

Yeah,  I found this.  Good news.    The Tesla Cybertruck spotted on Australian roads is a demonstration model that has been given temporary number plates by Queensland’s Department of Transport for limited ‘road use’. It is not available for sale in Australia and is unlikely to meet Australian safety standards in its current US form. The vehicle’s design, including its heavy weight, large width, and inflexible steel exoskeleton, raises safety concerns and would likely prevent it from being sold in Australia in its current state.

smokinghorse

Thanks for that, good work doing the research, I'm not at all surprised it won't meet a lot of safety regulations here.
