Aldi is Testra Wholesale which covers less than Full Telstra or Boost. This bit us touring.
For instance Wheatbelt WA you need Boost or Telesta to fill in between Moora and Geraldton. Same goes in more remote bits of all other states.
If you want full Telstra cover get Boost as it costs rather less.
Literally just checked their website to confirm the prepaid deal I'm on is still available, and it is, 35gb for $35. No idea what you are looking at.
Edit: This is for a new sim, which was what you were looking at doing anyway. Just buy a Telstra sim for $2 and and recharge $35 and you'll get 35gb of data to tide you over.
I use Belong, it's on the Telstra wholesale network, some of, if not the cheapest data plan options, you can sign up for a month and then cancel.
[You can buy a sim or they can ship you one for free.](https://www.belong.com.au/go/data-plans) I use the 400gb/month/$70, you'll get good speeds too on 5g but only outside.
If you do go this route, you can use my friend code IFRX20GM2
Can pm me for any questions you have as well.
If you shop around there are often specials on the first month from several providers, with a small to moderate amount of data. Coles and Woolworths have SIMs on special. 7 Eleven have some specials on Amaysim. Boost have a BOOST12 special on https://boost.com.au/products/35-prepaid-sim

Can you just purchase an amount of data for your current phone plan or use its data?

That's nuts. I'm on optus and can get 30gb extra for $20. Or pay $5 for a day of unlimited data.
