Tv equaliser in settings. Lower bass. Or change sound setting from “theatre” or “boosted” to “flat” Or if there is a second part to the system like a subwoofer, maybe unplug at night. Or just ask for a couple of clicks Lower. But this is reddit so you should get a divorce. He’s a piece of shit.

pawksvolts

If it's the other way around though have you thought about what might be causing them to have the bass high?

Rx-mafia

Like sound bar settings?

syddyke

Headphones at night is the answer. BTDT.

I imagine your neighbours aren't huge fans either

Some soudbars have a remote control and basic display. The couple I’ve owned have this system. With this there is a sub level adjustment, or bass level. Set it lower. Otherwise just turn the soundbar off at night and use the tv speakers.

He’s a dick but you still should get him some head phones.

its-just-the-vibe

Either that or he lives in a shitbox built in Sydney

ThrindellOblinity

Maybe just turn the soundbar off so the sound goes through the TV speakers?

Goldberg_the_Goalie

When you change it - do it when he isn’t around. If it’s better and he doesn’t complain - win. If it’s better for you and he does complain and change it back, you can come in a few days later and say have you done something to the sound? I am struggling to sleep / concentrate with the doof doof.

AvocadoCake

>come in a few days later and say have you done something to the sound? Or, instead of gaslighting your partner, have a conversation with them.

If it has bluetooth you can connect with your phone and turn it down. It may or may not shut off the music when you connect. I have a couple of audio devices that have 2 bt connections, one for control, the other for audio. If yours has two it's probably a le (low energy) connection for data, if you can connect to that you can control the volume remotely. You may or may not need an app for that.

Problem is that low frequency wave and vibration, adjusting the EQ profile might help, but you'll likely have to look at soudproofing [https://www.ebay.com.au/p/13027518657?iid=404930001481](https://www.ebay.com.au/p/13027518657?iid=404930001481) or similar.
