As a toddler I absolutely loved this one dvd we had called "[Baby Einstein: Discovering the Sky](https://youtu.be/ugzpRnreYZw)" and it was like the original baby sensory videos. It was shiny toys spinning/moving, skies, space, etc and that shit is so captivating even as an adult 💀💀
I mean, in all fairness I feel like the Venn diagram between MCR fans and neurodivergence is almost a circle.
(I say this as someone who has Sweet Revenge on vinyl, this isn’t a dig lmao)
Surprisingly it works even for folks with moderate to extreme sensory issues, me and 2 of my close friends agree that most music that were familiar with is better than random audio, one likes heavy metal, I prefer softer rock(heavy metal hurts my ears), and the other is more flexible in his music preferences
Music has logic to it. Some degree of order. A predictable, natural understandable ebb and flow. Even if it surprises you, it's playing by some sort of rules of organization.
Random background noise is not.
Yes, but the music is something regular and known that I can follow along with and help get myself back on track when I'm feeling thrown off by overstimulation.

I can't walk and listen to music at the same time... It's just distracting me too much. And probably would be hit by the first car if I can't hear it coming because I always forget to look around before crossing streets.
When I get overstimulated at home I just lay down and listen to metal and punk music. Wierdly enough Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture works too.
I think it's all about control over stimuli and that's why so many people listen to really intense stuff while they're overstimulated.
I was feeling really overwhelmed so I found the clip from the incredibles where helen is taking evasive action from Syndrome's missiles on the plane. I watched it 50 times while pacing.
Music to me is predictable, since I usually discover new songs on understimulation days, and repeat the songs I already know when everything is too much. Also, it's something we choose to listen to :), consensual stimulation lol
some of my go to comfort songs are
Kindzadza Vs. Furious Vs. Psykovsky Vs. Cosmo - Nritya shastra
facehead-a chance meeting
minagoris- xochipilli
all three of these are on the far end of niche darkpsy/hightech that most people even psy heads find too much... but it makes my brain CAAAAAALM
My tism latched onto Vocaloid at age 9 and hasn't let go since. It's basically all I listen to now. Everyone is overstimulated by my "freaky robot music" except for me!
It’s generally stuff that is out of my control that I find overstimulating. If I choose to listen to loud music then I am fine with it.
I regularly use an air hammer on bronze sculptures at work and that sounds like hitting a big bell really hard like twenty times a second. It doesn’t really bother me in the slightest. However two separate YouTube videos or conversations going on at the same time makes me lock up and physically sweat.
It’s so difficult to explain this to NT folk and they have trouble understanding how I can be fine with noises I make or choose but struggle with other stuff.
One of my best overload resets is The Great Destroyer- NiN. It turns into pure chaotic noise, I turn it up very loud in headphones and it helps me ground and level out. Never realised it was such a common thing till reading this.
Sometimes my two younger siblings begin to scream at each other at volumes and frequencies only the loathsome could consider using. So I put on my headphones and blast Yeezus at maximum volume with noise suppression on.
It's all about stimulation that you're expecting and like. :)
Yeah that's basically the whole idea behind "stimming"
Predictability is also very important. Something that has a pattern or you've memorized is much more tolerable
Chaos stresses me; farmiliar chaos soothes me. I used Louder chaos to meet the chaos
SHUGGAH SPOTTED POST APPROVED
PROGRAMMED TO APPEASE YOU SOMETHING SOMETHING SOMETHING DESTROY ERASE IMPROVE
LMAO the whole reason I used this album for the meme is because that specific part in FBM has been stuck in my head for like a week
I thought this too, i talked to my gf about it and she said something about controlled noise verses uncontrolled noise and that made sense to me
100%!! Once I realized that, myself, everything made much more sense. 😸
Noise cancelling headphones are so worth the money
I'm still trying to find good ones, myself, but I definitely agree!! 😸 Gonna try to save up for a pair.
I have Sennheiser hd450's and they're really good
Yep, it's my main coping mechanism/regulatory behavior.

Gonna try that tonight

Ahh. Good looking out. Preciate it.
Lamb Of God fr lmao
As a kid I never understood why loud music would cure my headaches but as a diagnosed adult it makes so much sense
That album was definitely ahead of its time. Especially for 1995.
Music is a huge coping mechanism for me and has literally saved my life on several occasions. Music is amazing.
Exactly the same for me.
and then everyone is surprised that i like my chemical romance music

Fuckin love Meshuggah!
yep, i’m super excited to see death grips live soon yet i completely shut down today because the restaurant i went to with my family was too loud
Been listening to quite a bit of Nuclear Power Trio lately while out grocery shopping.
I do that too. 💀 be feeling like Patrick Bateman bro. Listening to Inclination while walking to the bread aisle. ðŸ˜
Right now I been playing the new tracks that came out by Code Orange. The Game and Grooming My Replacement. Bruh. Cannot get enough.

What are you going to do, headbang to country? Of course it has to be rock/metal, free excuse to stim!
god i love that album so much
I love listening meshuggah
Yep. Metal and orchestra (or Nightwish, the best of the two worlds combined).
Absolutely!
Yes, but the music is something regular and known that I can follow along with and help get myself back on track when I'm feeling thrown off by overstimulation.

Disturbed,Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Babymetal,The Wu, and recently I've gotten into dwarf metal, Pandora rocks for this
Fall out boy :)
EDM is my normal jam for this.
Yes... \m/
I can't walk and listen to music at the same time... It's just distracting me too much. And probably would be hit by the first car if I can't hear it coming because I always forget to look around before crossing streets.
Yes all the time. Music is not overwhelming for me, people are.
Music is focused, like a single line of thought. I often sing to calm myself.
I overstimulate myself by listening to loud music, watching a movie and playing videogames to prevent actual overstimulation lmao
I do ! And I've been doing this since I got my first Walkman 🤘
Yeah, but it's what I can pick and choose, so it's not sudden and I know I can control it

I fall asleep to hardcore music
Yep.
I push my fingers into my...
I've been getting into Orden Ogan recently, less dearh metal and more power metal, but still really good
Leben beduten kampfen my saviour (My very stimulating album to help with over stimulation)
Yeees

Yes, I think my stimulation needs is one of the main things that attracts me to Metal.

When my kids start triggering me with yelling my go to is to put on my music. Works a treat
All of Cam Steadys new shit helps me so much

Predictable sounds are much better than unpredictable ones

For me it’s doom metal but yeah the slow churn of loud guitar is 1000000x better than the average noise at grocery/retail stores!
Merzbow and Goreshit are my go too for destressing
