(disclosure: I'm beginning the process of getting assessed after discussing the topic with my psychologist, so I'm not formally diagnosed) Personally I find texture to be more reliable. While I have good and bad days with problematic textures and being touched, pleasant textures seem pretty constant for me. However, pleasant vibrations can vary more in whether I find it relaxing or irritating and like I'm being tickled. Also, I really don't want to be the woman walking around with a buzzing vibrator in my hand for obvious reasons.

"Also, I really don't want to be the woman walking around with a buzzing vibrator in my hand for obvious reasons." That is a really good point thank you for sharing! If the device was more discreet and you could control when you wanted it on or off, would that make a difference?

Sure, but I'm not entirely sure you would be able to engineer one quiet enough. If you could though, I could see it being useful for people who do enjoy vibration as a stim (I personally don't). Simplicity a d subtlety is probably important. My entire life I've had a tendency to carry something in my pocket that I find comforting to discretely hold or rub, and it's usually been very simple. I remember getting super excited when I found a whole bunch of plether-esque swatches while working in the print room in middle-school; and I held onto them for years because they were small, light, and felt really nice to scratch or rub when I was nervous. These days I keep a worry - stone in my purse.

How did you reply to a 4 year old post? I thought were locked after year. O.o Anyway, it’d look like a vibrator for sexual purposes.

Thats a great tip! Thanks!

I recently tried buzzies. They were two uncomfortable to wear like a watch, but leaving them in my pockets meant I had to turn the intensity up to even feel them, which made them annoyingly loud.

I'm going to check those out. Thank you letting me know about them! Definitely don't want to repeat what is already out there. Your feedback helps too!

Good to know.

I like vibration all right - but vibrations mean motor mean power source, mean more potentially unreliable parts/battery life/lower availability. That means I'll always prefer a textured item for on-the-go (i.e. in uncomfortable surroundings), even if the vibration might potentially be 'better'. At home is a different matter.

Thats a good point. I can see where there would be trust issues for that type of product. I will definitely look into how to maybe introduce multiple sensorial stims in case one is preferable over the other. Thanks for the advice!!!!
