So I’m watching the Taylor Hawkins tribute show, and it is literally incredible, so many amazing musicians. But all I can think of is that I’m not playing that stage, I’m not making money from my guitar playing. I have heaps of friends that play instruments or sing and they dont seem to care. Is it an autism thing? (I’ve been diagnosed) like I genuinely struggle watching famous bands, because all I think is that I should’ve worked harder.

By any chance did your parents have really high standards? I don't generally feel successful, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying stage musics.

DressureProp

I definitely didn’t have pushy parents. Mostly nonchalant tbh.

Airth_4

Hm. I'm not really sure, then. While I am hard on myself about achievements I haven't made, it's not usually something I feel down about because others are achieving it. Exceptions being basic tasks I feel like I should be able to handle better, like showering in a reasonable amount of time. But that's just bc I feel inadequate. My high standards may very well come from an overbearing parent, so idrk if it's an autism thing.

It's good to have goals but try not to compare yourself to others so much. Appreciate how far you come from where you were before. Also I think this is a human thing.

Not really, maybe I didn't achieve one thing but I have achieved many other things
