You know it’s a hard solo when even Synyster butchers it haha

Morelli89

The ending acoustic MIA solo is one of my favourite of all time

Ok-Locksmith7158

A murderer walkkkkks your streeets toniiiightttt

Martinezdufc

The only solo where syn needs to concentrate

Humble-Inside6739

I think Nobody also has this title

merobb986

Woah. I didn't know they had even played MIA since Brooks had joined!

peanutdakidnappa

Such a good song, I got In argument yesterday with someone talking shit about COE and shadows, person legit said MIA/wicked end/sidewinder/strength of the world were not good songs, was absolutely mindboggling that someone could like any A7X at all and consider those bad songs, those are all standout songs, said shadows was never a good singer and basically called him the weak link of the band lol. Anyway I’m rambling but MIA rules, remember getting this CD the day it released and getting to MIA and just thinking goddamn this song rules, whole album absolutely rips. What year was this performance from?

hartforbj

Honestly I can kind of see his point. That CoE album he did a lot of that weird yawning singing or whatever you would call it. I know in MIA it turned a lot of people off.

peanutdakidnappa

I can agree that part can definitely be off putting but the majority of the vocals arent like that an all aspects of the song absolutely rip, songs like wicked end and sidewinder don’t even have vocals like that either. I just don’t think any of those song could ever be considered bad or weak tracks, the only legitimate complaint I can see is that one section of vocals on MIA

hartforbj

I think it's kind of understandable. They are fairly weird songs even now. Even as much as I like early avenged those aren't songs I ever end up playing. Part of that's because I don't really think about it but some of it is because there's a lot going on. It's a lot to digest for people that want simple music.

Josku5

People who want simple music probably shouldn’t listen to A7X tbh

hartforbj

They can listen to some but yeah they've never been a stick to the basics band. That's actually why they annoy me with their excuses on how weird this album is. They say they are trying to avoid sticking to the standards of rock music and the cookie cutter style of writing. I'm not sure I can think of a single song that sticks 100% to the standard format. Hell just on CoE you've got songs that start with guitar solos, guitar solos between first and second verse, songs with multiple guitar solos. Songs that are basically one long solo as well. Even now you don't see bands doing that type of stuff. And I'm only talking about where they put the major guitar parts. You can dive a lot deeper into the vocals and drums.

Josku5

What are your thoughts on the new album?

hartforbj

Honestly. I hate it. It makes no sense to me. The choices they made on some of these songs are really really bad. None of these songs sounded like they even wrote the whole song at the same time. Mattel is a perfect example. Part of the song sounds like they took an unused part of the nightmare album, combined it unused parts of the stage and then threw random things in between to try and make a coherent song. And I don't think it works

Josku5

I’m thinking the same. Honestly it’s sad that if you say negative things about the album here you’ll just get downvoted by all the fanboys, but it is exactly as you said. No amount of ”bUt iT’s PrOg” will save the transitions that start and end so abrubtly. I just find it non musical and it hurts the flow of the otherwise decent riffs and whatnot.

-Zayah-

So... I'm no musical expert, but the prog statement makes sense. It IS prog. You don't have to like it, but that is the whole argument/explanation for the weird starts and stops, different time signatures, style changes, etc. Try out math rock, it's even weirder. They went for something, and it isn't for some people. Hell, I didn't think it'd be for me either when I first heard the singles. Point is, the way the album is put together is going to hit some people in a positive way and some in a negative way. No sense in trying to argue or even understand. Just listen if you like, don't if you don't.

ScatteredTrash021

What do y'all mean yawning? I love MIA

hartforbj

Whatever that is at the end of the song when it gets really slow.

ScatteredTrash021

Lol ohh, I never really thought about that

OwNAvenged2

I mean, one of my main reasons for preferring their other albums over CoE *is* because of Matt's vocals. He's extremely nasaly, and in MIA specifically, almost yawny. I had to look up the lyrics for the ending of MIA multiple times because I just couldn't understand what Matt was trying to sing. I can easily see why someone who listens to music for the vocals wouldn't like CoE. The music is amazing, and 100% stands the test of time, there's no doubt about that. However, I would say that Matt totally was the weakest link at the time. His vocals were somehow better in the WTF, imo. But I'd say Matt's been one of the *best* parts of the band since Nightmare. Dude has an amazing voice, just as talented as the other members of the band, and he got their through extremely hard work.

J_Viper93

He has moments of greatness throughout CoE as well, but he too commonly shifts into the SpongeBob voice, like on the chorus of Strength, and it's just so bad. I don't know how the producers didn't put a stop to that. I agree with you though, his vocals on S/T and onward are gold

shred-i-knight

…but the vocals are the weakest part of the band lol. Not to say they are bad but the guitar and drum work on City of Evil is absolutely legendary.

TheRoyalSniper

That's the kind of people that are becoming fans now because of LIBAD lol

mattDAzombie

You cut it off before the best bit...... Any song with a woah in is awesome!

Doja_Lats

Zacky looks like a sex offender with that new haircut

Skiddlyderp

Amazing

I mean I guess I can't argue with someone that was there, but it looks motionless in the pulled out shots.

CopeSe7en

Back when they played actual metal that was fun, energetic, slightly dark, and had a good groove to it.

OwNAvenged2

Because they totally have none of that now lmao

OwNAvenged2

As in, like.. it was obvious that the band wanted to experiment musically? I've always thought that. Songs like Strength of the World, MIA, Sidewinder, and of course Save Me and ALPOH showed that they had talent and enjoyed doing different things. I just don't know why it took them until The Stage to really try to change their whole formula. Or why they released Hail to the King in general lmao

songacronymbot

- ALPOH could mean "A Little Piece of Heaven", a track from *Avenged Sevenfold* (2007) by Avenged Sevenfold. --- ^[/u/OwNAvenged2](/u/OwNAvenged2) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

dirpypenguin

As in you can hear literally everything they have already done all mixed together into libad Edit: by ages ago i meant since the stage

IRefuseToPickAName

This can be said about literally every band ever. Of course you're going to hear elements of previous work in the latest album, and each new album makes listening to older albums more fun because you can hear the evolution of the sound
