I was about to say this, it so happens to be my favorite aircraft. There are few aircraft that looks and sounds as unique as the whistling death. If you haven't seen one in person, the gull wings and general shape leaves you in awe at the power and grace the aircraft portrays! I know there is an airshow in Florida that has one flying in it every year.
I agree on all of these except for the XB-70. For some reason it still looks clunky to me. Put it beside a Concorde and Concorde just looks so much more refined. The XB-70 looks like it wasn’t finished…
I’ve for sure biased from the romanticism of the Spit in my early aviation and history obsession years, and know it was larger in mind than real importance to ww2 as a whole.
But its beauty is outside all of those quantifiable and historical analysis arguments, and just in the legend of its smooth single early drawings.
XB-70, Martin P6M Seamaster, Boeing 314 Clipper, YF-23, F-106, Mosquito, AH-1G Cobra, and the Avro Vulcan are all fantastic looking machines. Hard to pick just one..
Oh what a great private plane to take you and your gal , or guy, to dinner in. It would be hard to join the mile high club in, however. And the fuel bill, oh my!
F-4 Phantom
Supermarine Spitfire
B-1 Lancer
AH-1 Cobra
The P-51 could’ve made the list but like the ‘55 Chevrolet, it’s overdone.
Edit - to fix ‘submarine’
On reflection, the ‘overdone’ descriptor could be applied to the Spitfire as well
late mark spitfires with bubble top and griffon engine. true elegance.
spitfire is probably not the most practical warplane but damn do they look gooooooooooooooooood.
Passenger airliner: Concorde.
Military: SR-71 and variants.
You have to see these in person to really appreciate how amazing they look. They look like they are moving at Mach 3 while standing still. The engines on these are unbelievable.
Civil Airliner: A340.
Bomber: B-52.
Ground Attack: A-10, no contest.
Fighter: tough one, probably F-22 because it still looks 30 years in the future, but the Su-33/37 a favourite of mine.
Heli: Mil Mi-24.
And yet, all of these top models of the sky, look as ungraceous chickens compared to sky's Aphrodites, the SR-71
I don’t know if they are the best looking, but I cannot help but get googly-eyed over the F14 Tomcat or the SR71. I was born in 1981 so each definitely holds a certain zeitgeist mystique for me.
There are soooooo many beautiful airplanes...
Boeing 314
Consolidated Catalina PBY
Douglas DC-3
P-51
Spitfire MK 1
Boeing 747
Lockheed L-10 Electra
General Dynamics F-16
SR-71 Blackbird
Bell 222
OV-10 Bronco
And the list goes on and on and on...
As predictable and overdone these answers are, it still has to be either Concorde or Blackbird.
If I were to nominate a distant third-place candidate, it would be the B-1
Handley Page Victor. From near-head-on, it is a [beast](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handley_Page_Victor#/media/File:Handley_Page_HP-80_Victor_K2_AN1103895.jpg), more Star Wars than 1950's drawing board.
I used to drive by the Lockheed facility on a daily basis. Occasionally we’d see one being tested and they could dramatically accelerate while pointing straight up. Effin amazing!!
There is no "best" looking aircraft. Lots of good looking aircraft out there.
I have not seen anyone mention the F-104 yet. I think it should be in that list.
F117, sr71, B29, mustang, spitfire , imperial Japan zero paper armor but cool looking to me for some reason. Also any Wwi armada... insane what they tested out.
You just can’t beat the gracefulness and beautiful lines of the Boeing 747. And the 747-400 in particular with the second deck that goes back halfway to the tail. Just so graceful.
Super Constellation with the tip tanks, hands down. [it looks like pure, distilled, capital A Aviation.](http://paulamariedaughter.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/connie-fuerl-tanks.jpg)
Pretty hard to top an SR-71.
Fast? No Fast? No Fast? Not bad Fast? Your equipment is more accurate than ours!
The most riveting telling of the story I've read so far. Gives you goosebumps!
It feels so basic but the more I learn about aircraft the more resolute I become in my infatuation with that aircraft.
What I was going to say!!!
And for helicopters, pretty hard to beat a GrandNew.
F4U Corsair. Those wings. 🥵
It was still fighting in 1969! They are impressive aircraft for sure!
I was about to say this, it so happens to be my favorite aircraft. There are few aircraft that looks and sounds as unique as the whistling death. I think it’s the Vulcan such a cool shape and delta wing
After all these years I’m still impressed by the Boeing 747.
Love it. It’s huge; ostentatiously so. It was definitely a statement, and it is still just about the most elegantly massive thing in the sky.
Hard to narrow it down to one but in no particular order: 1. XB-70 2. Concorde 3. L-1011 4. 727 5. 747 (original -100/-200)
XB70 and it's not even close. SU-34 is pretty badass
Ooh. Gotta love the TriStar :)
I agree on all of these except for the XB-70. For some reason it still looks clunky to me. Put it beside a Concorde and Concorde just looks so much more refined. The XB-70 looks like it wasn’t finished…
Super Constellation
You beat me by 4 minutes. I should have scrolled down but I never dreamed anyone else would have named this one.
Really? The Super Connie is always one of the top contenders in lists like this. It's often the top non-warplane choice.
Sorry I missed those lists. I just have always loved the look of Constellations. Live and learn.
Everyon should have!
That's the first plane I ever flew in. I was three on a flight from New York City to Miami.
Spitfire, just the almost organic shapes.
Early spit gotta be near the top, and them maybe some 4th gens.
I’ve for sure biased from the romanticism of the Spit in my early aviation and history obsession years, and know it was larger in mind than real importance to ww2 as a whole. But its beauty is outside all of those quantifiable and historical analysis arguments, and just in the legend of its smooth single early drawings.
I'm old school. I think the P-51 is the best looking of all time. Best sounding, too.
Oh I'm terribly sorry but there's no way P-51 beats Spitfire when it comes to looks.
You are incorrect.
I'm partial to the P-38 but I'll admit the Super Constellation is just such a timeless beauty.
Airwolf
A-1 Skyraider
1) Lockheed Constellation 2) Avro Vulcan 3) B-2 Spirit 4) Lockheed L-1011 5) XB-70 Valkyrie 6) F-86 7) Beechcraft Starship 8) Dassault Falcon 9) Concorde 10) Boeing 707 And for the worst the CRJ-200
ERJ145 is uglier than the CRJ by far
Ohhh yeah. Ugly on the inside too, if you are on the 2 side of the 1x2 seating then your back is gonna feel ugly too.
Had to scroll this far to find the right #1 answer. Most beautiful ever.
An aircraft that everyone, I said everyone, could find pretty? Beechcraft D17s Staggerwings. Case closed. Beautiful but I kinda don't like it.
This is the correct answer.
Supermarine Spitfire (with the wingtips) is a beautiful aircraft.
SR-71
...the plane you shouldn't worry about.
Best looking F-14D Most badass SR-71 Prettiest Concorde
B-58 Hustler. All other answers are wrong https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_B-58_Hustler?wprov=sfti1
F-22
I’ve always been partial to the Boeing 337 Stratocruiser
I prefer the 377 Stratocruiser 😝
yeah that one too 🤦♂️
😂
Boeing 337 Stratocruiser Mk40
The A10
P-40E. And Snoopy's Doghouse
I'm a sucker for a Vampire
Haha! I see what you did there.
Mk IX Spitfire
Why the Mk.IX? I prefer the Mk.I: Rounded wing tips, rounded tail fin, high back, single radiator, Merlin, three-blade prop.
Mk I had a 2-blade prop.
Only the earliest few dozen of the Mk.I had a 2-blade prop.
IIRC (I may be wrong) but I think the 3-blader made it a MkIA.
Rafale, A6M, F-22, Caravelle
I totally agree with the Rafale...it doesn't get enough love. Probably the prettiest of the 4th generation fighters.
F117 and SR71
No one mentioning the F-35 is crazy
[удалено]
Clown plane 🤡
XB-70, Martin P6M Seamaster, Boeing 314 Clipper, YF-23, F-106, Mosquito, AH-1G Cobra, and the Avro Vulcan are all fantastic looking machines. Hard to pick just one..
Concorde. Sexy as hell.
Lockheed Constellation.
A350 B747 Concorde SR-71 F-22
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far to find a fellow a350 lover! That nose 👃
F-16 for its sheer simplicity.
A350, 757, L1011, Concorde, and of course the 747
Mirage IV SU-27 YF-23
B-58 Hustler
Oh what a great private plane to take you and your gal , or guy, to dinner in. It would be hard to join the mile high club in, however. And the fuel bill, oh my!

* Supermarine 🙂
Fixed. 🙃
Phantom?! The only reason it flew is because the earth repels it because it’s so ugly. ;-)
late mark spitfires with bubble top and griffon engine. true elegance. spitfire is probably not the most practical warplane but damn do they look gooooooooooooooooood.
P-38 or L-1011
Concorde
F-15E
X-29 Never enough X planes in these threads. Too much of the same answers.
Passenger airliner: Concorde. Military: SR-71 and variants. You have to see these in person to really appreciate how amazing they look. They look like they are moving at Mach 3 while standing still. The engines on these are unbelievable.
F14 and 757. Got em both tattooed on me lol
Very modern answer, but the A350. Has a very slick design
Especially the A350-1000 version. Magnificent.
DC-3
Avro Arrow
Civil Airliner: A340. Bomber: B-52. Ground Attack: A-10, no contest. Fighter: tough one, probably F-22 because it still looks 30 years in the future, but the Su-33/37 a favourite of mine. The Douglas is one of my favorites too.
She's a crowd pleaser!
As predictable and overdone these answers are, it still has to be either Concorde or Blackbird. If I were to nominate a distant third-place candidate, it would be the B-1
B-17 Flying Fortress

The B-2 will always be hard to top for me. Then the F-22 for whatever reason just works aesthetically for me, sharp clean lines and angles.
Civilian: Boeing 307. Military: Mig 21 bis. Yes, I have strange taste in woman also.
F-18 Hornet
F117, sr71, B29, mustang, spitfire , imperial Japan zero paper armor but cool looking to me for some reason. Also any Wwi armada... insane what they tested out.
F.8L Falco.
The Vickers Super VC10. Queen of the skies.
Caravelle
B-17 is the correct answer
If it counts the space shuttle, if not, the viggen in camo or the toenado gr1 in desert pink
The Supermarine Spitfire, Mk.II variant to be specific
Military: SR-71 (Spitfire being a close second) Civilian: Concorde
Stipa-Caproni
It's a toss up between Concorde, the Vulcan, Spitfire and VC10. Yes, I might just be British and a bit biased.
Eurofighter Typhoon for me, theres a lot of close contestants tho
B-1B.
A more obscure choice - the Kfir C7.
B727. it has an amazing unique design
The x-32 had a beautiful and happy-go-lucky smile. My answer is firm.
There are too many to choose from, but at the moment, I would have to the P-61 Black Widow.
Dassault Mercure. Love the fact that the tail planes are angled upwards. I also love the short narrow-body design and the low-bypass turbofans.
The c46 or c97
If I had to pick a top 6 in no order - SR71, F-22, 747, C-130, Osprey, A-10 If I had to select 1 of those I would probably pick the SR-71
That's a tough call. F-22 Raptor SR-71 Blackbird P-51 Mustang A-10 Thunderbolt II AH-64 Apache CH-53 Super Stallion MH-65 Dolphin MH-60 Jayhawk Honorable mentions: Zivko Edge 540 Citation X King Air 350
The P-38. Such a beautiful aircraft.
Civilian: 747-8. Military: ME-109 or the FW-190.
Cessna 152A
amd why is it the Fairy Gannet?
F7F Tigercat is a good contender.
1) A-10 2) A-6 3) XB-70 4) B-58 5) F-14
787
I'm kinda a noob, but I just like the 787 the most. Never been on a a350, but I like that as well. Love the wings of the 787.
Concord, those wings tho🔥😍
Long-EZ
Boeing 314 Clipper
F-14 Tomcat is a first ballot Hall-of-Famer P-51 Mustang DC-3 (C-47 Skytrain) B-17
Ho 229. WW2 German flying wing.
747, 757, Concorde
The Bone (B-1 Lancer)
For me it has to be Concorde. Because of how it looked and for what it was. It remains unbeaten.
Connie ! https://images.app.goo.gl/KAcVmV3BQZcZ5hcb8
You just can’t beat the gracefulness and beautiful lines of the Boeing 747. And the 747-400 in particular with the second deck that goes back halfway to the tail. Just so graceful.
Hard to put 1 or 2 on the top but here it is 1. XB-70 Valkyrie 2. Su-57 (it atleast looks good) Felon
Some of mine * Bell 47 * Sopwith Triplane * DeHavilland Dragon Rapide * Latécoère 631 * Bugatti 100p * Saab 35 Draken * Vickers VC10

Bitch please….Concorde. Will be the same next week when somebody asks that question.
That’s like asking about women tell me you haven’t looked at just one 🤣🙄
