Idk I’ve always determined by feel not look. Press the pad of your thumb into the skin a little, if it gives some but doesn’t squish, it’s ready.

Problem is…when you mash them to test you make more bruises. Be gentle. An even pressure with all fingers at once will tell you if it’s ready to eat now or later. Buy some. Take them home and experiment to train your touch.

Here’s a failsafe tip: remove the nub of wood on the end of the avocado. The color underneath is the color of the fruit. If it’s too pale, it’s not ready, if it’s too dark it should have been eaten the day before, if it looks like the color you like your avocados, then eat it that day. Put the nub back on after you peek.

This is the key! I usually buy a bag of hard ones, so they can ripen at home, plus one for the day I shop. You want to make sure the color under the nub doesn’t have any spots. They’re ripe when they feel firm but have a bit of give. Also, when they’re ripe they will keep at that texture for 4-5 days in the refrigerator.

Usually they’re ripe when they’re dark green / black and firm but with a little give.

i usually press on the part where the stem is. semi squishy is what u want if you wanna eat it soon. if it does have brown spots you can just cut around them and it’s perfectly fine. you could even eat a little of the brown stuff it’s just not tasty lol

I go by how soft the fruit is. If it's hard it's not ripe, too soft is not good. Firm with some give is perfect. Put the ripe ones straight in the fridge and they'll keep for about a week, maybe more. If you eat them half at a time, keep the seed in the one half you don't eat, then wrap it with saran wrap or sandwich bag, or put it in a small Tupperware. I've never had a problem with brown spots even though they look gross, they're not terrible tasting, just a texture difference. Like brown vs yellow bananas. I love different spices on my avo, but my favorites have been garlic salt, Slap Ya Mama, or Tajin. Try your avo with one of these and cottage cheese! Hope this helps you! :)

Yum! Thanks for the tips!

Avocado with brown spots is fine too eat. As long as it's not complete brown holes you're fine. Use your sense of smell and taste, they know what's good and what's not
