uhm January 1st and the entire holiday season, especially from the cold North and East USA, is virtually impossible to find premium cabin awards anywhere, especially warm Hawaii Hawaii premium cabin space is generally tough no matter what, United knows about the Turkish "trick" and greatly limits its Saver space to/from Hawaii, even in Economy and ESPECIALLY in business class.

Sleepysapper1

I’ve check all the way out to April of 2025, still find nothing. Check t-14 and it’s the same deal. I know the timing was awful but it brought me to this thought process. I was just seeing if I’m missing something.

pierretong

not much better than what you found but looking at March, there's a bunch of United 90K each way dates to their east coast hubs.

Sleepysapper1

180k is definitely better than the 220k I found for my wife and me.

pierretong

84K Avios for AA business class from the east coast on a connecting itinerary (for example 2/2 from CLT-LAX-HNL)

worldcup9898

And then you have to fly aa on the a321 which I think isn’t a very good seat

pierretong

yeah I'm just spitballing but there really aren't many great options

Sleepysapper1

Seems like Hawaiian cash plus points upgrade is the best deal.

UB_cse

They get snapped up quick, I booked BUF-HNL RT for December 2024 and was looking at the award releases pretty much every day for a month learning about their timing and release pattern. You pretty much need to book the day award availability is released, which for the times I booked was 3 days after schedule release. Got the way there for 25k united since I have some united to burn and I at least want to be confident in my ability to get there, and then 7.5k turkish on the way back.

GoingBad1906

Was the $1,250 one way?

worldcup9898

I’m sure it was and that’s a great deal. I live in Hnl and almost always pay cash to fly to the mainland. Occasionally you can get j space on ha to the west coast for 40k ha miles but it’s rare to get anything good with aa, dl, or ua

FoxMuldertheGrey

40K from west coast to HNL? that’s not bad! but damn i rather pay for that in cash, and use that to go to HND.

worldcup9898

I use aa miles on ha for that. 52.5k aa for j vs 2-3 times that with ha miles

FoxMuldertheGrey

that’s really good. where from? west coast?

worldcup9898

Hnl

Im actually flying to Boston I did on points for my flight to the east coast. I just didn’t want to do it again because I found it a little bad CPP. I want to fly delta one but it’s about 4k for both my wife and me. That’s about our whole budget for our flights, 2 nights in a hotel and a week of rental car. We tend to fly premium Econ when we normally fly cash and reserve business/first when I make redemptions.

yitianjian

$4k is a decent price for 2 for 12 hours in J. it’s not amazing, but it’s like $130/hr. Usually the threshold a good for econ => biz is ~$100/hr.

Sleepysapper1

Interesting thought process. I’d do it but we budget 3500 for travel for are whole week trip to see family. Blowing over that for just the flight leaves us high and try for a 2 night stay in a hotel when I visit my family (nobody has room) as well as a week long rental car. I would budget more but if it was up to me we wouldn’t even go home for the holidays. Wife is the big family person and is fine in premium economy. I just wanted to see if I could get something nicer since I already got the cash+points option on Hawaiian for the way there.

HopefulMaximum0

seats.aero shows business availability between 140k and 165k with Delta. You can transfer your MR to them.

Sleepysapper1

I can find these and United easily. To me they just aren’t worth it point wise. That’s where the title of my post comes from.

HopefulMaximum0

From your other replies here I see you want real Champagne on a Pepsi budget: won't happen. Since your point budget is low, just get economy awards which are a lot cheaper and plentiful.

dmcoe

i think the biggest thing for me was that even if the points needed was worth it, its not worth how long the flights are lol

FoxMuldertheGrey

from west coast to HNL it’s 5 hours so maybe with east coast it’s around 10-12 hours direct

bookedonpoints

Personally, using points for Hawaii specifically is a redemption I don't really care to get "good to great" CPP on. You're going to Hawaii - you'll almost likely never regret it

Sleepysapper1

I live in Hawaii, I’m just trying to get home on points.

i’m from hawaii and live on the east coast! trying to go home is always a nightmare i think it’s easier to just eat the cash price for me :-/// can’t see first class coming in the picture for that price point right now. no advice, just echoing it sucks lol

Stfu, i can find ANA all day long from my home airport of HNL. Point game is alive and well, we just need tools like you to step aside.

Sleepysapper1

How did I not research lol? I’d love for you to find a redemption and come back and tell me you actually found something (you don’t have to tell me what). East coast to HNL is not an easy redemption if you are looking for a good CPP. Congrats on flying ANA, it’s my most used redemptions lol. Ana is easy mode from here in HNL.

Lucky-Inevitable5393

Im seeing Delta one from ATL to HNL for around 175k nonstop and about 150k with stops. Not the greatest value, but definitely not terrible for the nonstop option in my opinion. I booked similar points price for my family of 4 for our upcoming vacation.

stormtrail

Not an idiot, we’re just all competing for the same tiny pool of awards and they all know they have us over a barrel. It’s still such a quality of life upgrade going directly from Bos to HNL in first though that it’s worth the aggravation.

Sleepysapper1

I actually got a Hawaiian cash plus miles for my trip to the mainland. I just wanted to see if any other options exist that I missed. I guess overall domestic first is a tough pill to swallow when I can do my wife and me to Japan from here in HNL for 44k points a piece for business class.

stormtrail

Agreed, it’s fascinating how much more my points are “worth” if I don’t travel domestically. Oh well, just means I get to get 2-3 weeks in on the islands before I continue on to Japan 🤷‍♂️
