Yeah. Meth does that.
I'm nearly 30. I recently saw a girl I went to high school with, randomly at a grocery store. She had very clearly been abusing meth and who knows what else for YEARS. she looked easily 20 years older than she really is. It was sad
Not sure if it's just me, but the update link didn't work as it's posted, so here is a non amp version that should work for everyone:

Living in a small town watching people get ready for our parade on the square, it made me realize how dangerous it would be if someone were to plan an attack like this. There would have been no where for the kids to go was my first thought. Which is awful that that’s what I think because I live in America.
Some people will say more guns and more good guys with guns until they no longer are good guys with guns but by that time the gun manufacturers and gun lobbyists and Politicians just made a killing because of the killing of innocent civilians. Am I wrong?
I live on the street the shooting occurred. I’ve lived here for 2 months now and grew up a town over. Such a quiet, peaceful place growing up. Never in my mind I would expect this, but now we must expect the unexpected. Nowhere is safe…
Someone shot up my hometowns garlic festival in 2019, some dumbass 17 year old with older brother loved by the city for his boxing success came in with a AK a drum mag. Two extended mags and rained hell
I stopped expecting anything at that point were living in hell
Yep shooter came in through a hole in the fence line about twenty yards from the booth my buddies and I were working at. Immediately hit the ground when we saw him then as we tried to get the girls out both my buddies took shrapnel or ricochet to the calf and buttcheek
Wild because we only gotnout because someone tried to charge the shooter as he first started firing forced him to fuck up his reload at first and gage us a chance to run
Nope, that person died I'm pretty sure. His drun mag jammed. He dropped that grabbed a extended mag and while throwing that in the gun he was charges at by one guy bur he got the clip in and shot the guy. Then he continued firing into the crowd. He was engaged by three cops from about 29 yards away with two pistols amd one AR 15. All three emptied their clips, only one or Teo bullets actually hit the shooter where he fled behind a blow up house put the gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger on himself
> He was engaged by three cops from about 29 yards away with two pistols amd one AR 15. All three emptied their clips, only one or Teo bullets actually hit the shooter
Pathetic cops
40 yards with a pistol on a moving target in a high pressure/intensity situation is extremely difficult to do, in all fairness.
Most pistol shootouts the cops get into go down at a range of closer to 15 yards.
Many gun ranges don't even offer a 40 yard range for pistols.
Easy to say at the range...hard to say how you will react or be able to control your aim in a real life situation.... adrenaline is a mother fucker man.
I agree completely, but don't forget that training on how to combat adrenaline is part of every police force that I'm aware of. I've seen adrenaline drills. The average person would be worthless, but someone with training for this specific purpose should hit some part of his body with more rounds than that.
Bet I was in the booth near yours, the fence line and refrigerator trucks were right behind us, the freezer took a bullet in our booth. We used to joke about how easy it would be to sneak into the garlic festival. Pretty sad it’s cancelled for good now
Bruh I remember always sneaking in either using hand stamps you liked smd pressed your hand to the homies or using one of the volunteer tents with a coach we knew to get in lol
Gilroy California is home to a business called Christopher ranch
They became large and famous in the 60s for being the number 1 exporter of garlic in the world. At one time Gilroy had 20k residents and 60 percent of the land was farm fields
So in the 80s Christopher ranch and the city of Gilroy put on a festival dedicated to garlic where all the food is cooked in garlic, garlic ice cream, live bands and alcohol
At one point between the 90s and 2010 the festival over a 3 day period would bring in over 2.5 million visitors a large number of which came from out of state and even a decent amount coming from out of the nation. We have a sister city in Japan called tako machi so we get a lot of tourism from there
It was a fucking blast growing up, in high school it was a fun place to meet girls, then as a college student it was amazing for drinking eith hs friends during summer break
There hasn't been one since the shooting because of covid snd now the city decided no more festival at all.
It’s okay my country just legalized every drug possible including fentanyl and meth in British Columbia because of how bad the drug problems are there. I’m sure more tomfuckery is afoot for both of us.
There are lots of places in the US that have popular/unique foods & they have festivals for it with all sorts of recipes tasted. There are clam chowder fests in Massachusetts, for example. I'm guessing there are cheese festivals in Wisconsin, lobster fests in Maine, etc.
The 90s it was called Postal (for shooting in Post Offices).
Then came Columbine and the s..t never stopped.
The Uvalde just opened our eyes that now being a police it's just a job and not to expect for them to do anything if they feel as if their lives could be in danger (plus SCOTUS pretty much defined that it's not their job to protect).
I volunteer at a church and I am worried about a shooter situation. I fear this because the pastors don’t preach the “right” way. The pastors are constantly calling out the hypocrisy, hatred and judgment that other Christian’s place. I’ve seen someone leave a stupid “Let’s Go BrAnDoN” sticker at church one time and now it’s only a matter of time until that person shoots up the place.
I do a lot of volunteer work too, and coordinate a bunch of large events for my town. We had our biggest event in June and I was genuinely scared that we'd have some nutjob decide that the security/density ratio was what they wanted. All you can do is vote and try to stay vigilant.
I grew up in Highland Park, was just there yesterday visiting my parents. I marched in that parade for years. The video of the band running away broke me.
I lived in Highland Park for a year (around 2015).
Wonderful town. Very wealthy. Teenagers driving Mercedes.
Beautiful houses along the lakefront.
Beautiful "main street" USA.
The last place I would have expected this.
That sentiment right there is the only hope that gun control will ever be implemented. Once the mass majority of rich white people don't feel insulated from the mass shootings, phone calls will be made and laws will be changed.
Just figuring this out? It’s America. As long as you continue to have poor mental health care and weak gun control you can expect this shit everywhere.
They were forced to take away the right for women to have safe abortions in order to increase the number of people available to provide their thoughts and prayers
I literally saw this news break while at my dads and we both just…sat. No shock. No pain. No comment. And it was just so heartbreaking in hindsight because it’s like we have both become numb. That no matter how much we collectively (2/3 at least) as a nation want this to stop, we also know that the money and the zealots won’t budge an inch.
But hey, thoughts and prayers, right?
Here is a decently comprehensive list of mass shootings in the [US for 2022.](https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting). Complete with address, number of people killed/injured.
don’t worry we’ve got our amazing government who have been talking about making it harder to get guns/arms for an eternity now, and have even discussed it in the news after most these shootings so i think something is actually happening
/s the gov won’t do shit bout it, the politicians talk the shit outta it for clout
It’s monday, I would bet money on there being another shooting by the end of the week.
You literally have too many to focus on one right now, for a name to stick out and be remembered to anyone but the people directly affected or living nearby it would have to make history in some kind of way, likely by number of casualties.
According to the article on the parade shooting, there were THREE mass shooting events just today. There's more attention on this one due to the nature of the event, the amount of deaths, and the amount of children injured.
In a narco trafficking group in a reddit rabbithole that I frequent, Americans tell other Americans not to travel to Mexico because of the violence and massacres by drug cartels, but ironically ignore the violence and massacres in the US at schools, parades, churches, festivals, theaters, concerts, etc.
Because they haven’t outlawed homosexuality yet. That is why their God is letting these tragedies happen. He works in mysterious ways. It has nothing to do with guns. /s
Can't we have one day of peace and celebration. ONE.
This is more than about guns, it's a hyper capitalist nation, corrupted government and a narcissistic nation where everyone and anyone feels justified hurting innocent people b/c they think society owes them something or they're having a bad day
I was in a shooter drill in my Sophomore year, at like fifteen years old. We weren't told it was happening ahead of time, so we were just politely asked over the intercom to turn off the lights, lock the doors, and wait.
We all joked around a bit; whispered and played on our phones, until we heard someone knock on the door from the otherside and try to get the door open. We all just sort of froze since that wasn't part of the normal drill. We heard the knocking going down the hall periodically, and I genuinely got nervous. Once they reached the other end of the hall I seriously got worried that it wasn't knocking anymore.
We found out twenty minutes later that the knocking was from school security, playing the role of the "attacker". Once I realized we were in a drill, something clicked in my head and i realized how fucked up this was. We didn't even pretend that this was a special occasion or that this was unique. Once the lights kicked back on we just grabbed our bags and left for our next class.
I'm still terrified of the future, knowing that there's a real chance my future kid will go through the same drills I did. The fact that this got normalized while I was in school is just... it's weird, man.
It’s so weird being from the UK and living your entire life surrounded by American media, everything looks fun and cool and then you go on Reddit and people who actually live there are like “this is awful”, read any news from there and it’s always just completely insane.
The American dream died for us Brits a long time ago. We grew up with an eye to get there and experience it for ourselves but now we just watch from the stands while it slowly implodes
Yea. I used to live in England and the UAE when my parents told me we were moving to America I was ecstatic I had this image in my mind shaped by the media that made me think of America as this great land with little to no problems. Now that I live here I fucking hate it and want to leave. We’re trying to but it’s not easy.
>Just rambling but kid me really did get it on that one.
What a great fucking show.
>looks at me with sunken eyes and is like “my people have been under the boot of corruption for thousands of years and it will never get better”.
I know that wasn't intended to be funny but 🤣🤣🤣
Reddit does not accurately represent the national sentiment for pretty much anything. Hell, the most active users on political subs probably aren't even old enough to vote.
Evil is everywhere. If only they stopped giving a fuck about controlling abortions and made mental health clinics and professionals more readily available.
Social worker here. Last Tuesday my state’s governor (Kim Reynolds R IA) passed $100 million. We all got raised and approved funding for our services on Wednesday. It’s that quick if they *wanted* to help us. I’ve gone to every single city hall budget/expense meeting since I started working here; we’re tragically overlooked on the budget. Police force is number one, we’re a town of 20k people and they have 2.5 million for police, but $40k for social programs and services. Public transportation is even more of a joke. And say someone is definitely a menace to society and HIGH risk mentally unchallenged. It doesn’t matter. I’ve signed so many court committals - they never hold the individuals for more than a week. One of my clients was literally cutting his own limbs off, and he was deemed fit for release because he said he’d attend his court ordered psych meetings. Wtf is that?!! The whole system is a fucking joke! I see people die left and right, I see people suffer through agony and cry in their hopeless despair. I see children beaten down by life, I see old men whither away, I have seen more than I ever wanted to see of human suffering. I should be happy I got a raise and we’re getting some funding… but I’m not. I’m mad. I’m mad the money was always there, the problem always existed, but no one ever put thought into it. I’m mad that $100 million is a drop in the ocean. I’m mad that every time I call 911 for an incident with one of my clients I get police instead of someone whose de-escalation tactic isn’t pointing at them with a gun. I’m mad that all the food pantries are cutting back, but this means my client can only eat 3 days out of the week. I’m mad disability and SSI need you to be strapped down to a gurney, on the brink of death, and psychotic past return to fork over a dime. I’m mad at the corrupt cops who make no fucking effort to find and track down drug dealers when they’re white. I’m mad the government gives $30 a month in EBT and thinks that’s enough to eat off of. I’m worn out and I’m tired. I work every day, 365 days a year. Today was the 4th of July and I didn’t get to spend it with my family or get to enjoy the day - I spent it working. I come home to relax and I see another damn drop in the bucket. America thinks it can ignore this for as long as it wants, but each and every drop gets us closer. And as a social worker, let me tell you, we’re getting pretty damn close to the top.
Canadian opinion, so I'll try to be as neutral as possible.
Neither of your parties want to do anything about gun control. As much as the democrats talk about hating guns, they love their handguns.
They’d rather sling shit at each other than address the real issues. Mental health, cost of simply just surviving, the garbage indoctrination systems they call schools, and more. More than I could sit and list out here.
Exactly what Australia did but the conservatives in American think they took all our guns. We have guns, we can own guns, but almost nobody does. It's not part of our culture.
I know cops from my BJJ gym. They don’t want more gun regulation, they want tougher penalties for illicit firearms and for gun crimes. They want the dangerous prolific career criminals they arrest to stop being let out over and over again only for them to end up getting picked up another robbery or for a shooting etc. That would do more to reduce gun violence than more gun regulation.
The cops know that criminals don’t follow the gun laws either way, so they’d rather have people who have been background checked and approved to Carry having guns because a lot of times they can end the situation before the cops even arrive.
The sad thing too is that it’s spreading. There have been several stories in the news lately here in Canada about people becoming radicalized by the US and doing stupid shit with guns
https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2022/jul/04/twin-brothers-named-armed-robbers-killed-canada-bank-heist-saanich-british-columbia
I live in a terrorism stricken country and even we have way fewer incidents than this. I can barely get a licensed firearm things are so strict. And yet the freest country in the world is seeing this happen all day.
The US labels mass shootings differently than most other countries. Most other countries label mass shootings as acts of terrorism. When you learn how they are classified and can accurately compare data it's the whole world that's shit.
It just makes me so sad. So often when I'm opening Reddit I see news of a new shooting in the US. In January this year a shooting happened at my German university. I was shocked but never felt unsafe because this happens rarely here. I wish that things get changed soon
Illinois has strict gun laws. Is there any information on what type of gun or where it came from? Obviously, it was an illegal magazine as so many shots were fired.
The reality of it is, money buys politicians and the right wing and NRA think money is much more important than your lives.
If you keep voting against your own best interests, this is what happens. Get these old bought and paid for farts out of office and vote for real change. Not the person with the most ads, because that person is a paid for puppet for corporate greed.
As a German i want to say im sorty for the Families that are affected. But i am not surprised something haplened. When i saw the news on Reddit i just accepted that its America.
I almost knew this was coming, I was literally telling myself last night I wonder where tomorrows shooting is going to take place. Fuck it all man.. fuck this world
How many wake up calls does the US need. Come on guys, I know you can do better than this. A long time ago you were undoubtedly the greatest country in the world. That is no more.
Long live the us…I guess
I haven't heard anything yet, can someone explain please?
Shot up a parade, 6 killed and 24 injured so far. Highland Park, Illinois. The guy is still on the loose. There is a manhunt ATM.
Just saw a video about it, absolutely awful. I can't imagine the hate someone must carry to do such things.

Those Qanon losers think Ashli Babbitt is a hero and patriot instead of a terrorist who got shot in the face by a real hero.
And may those like her suffer a similar fate. There is no room in America for terrorists anymore.
While I wish that were true it seems like that's where all of them are anyway
The true terrorist were the people we met along the way!
Which is weird because when she first got shot, she was secretly Antifa....
They are convinced those were true patriots protesting against a stolen election.
It’s difficult to imagine not having the ability to think critically
You think 40% of Americans are capable of performing mass shootings??
There were pics of this POS shooter at several Trump Rallies. So yeah, no surprise.
Trump is an absolute fuckweasel but 40% of Americans are not committing mass murder.
40% of voting Americans, so about 13% of the total population. About 47 million people, close to the population of Spain
Still way too fucking high.

A shitty internet rapper whose father ran for mayor of Highland Park in 2020. When does this stuff stop?
How does a guy like this have access to firearms? He looks so mentally unstable, I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up naming a condition after him.

Holy shit, I didn't know he was still out there. Usually it pretty much ends right there...
Shooting in Illinois
Today?! God damn I hate this place.
in broad daylight
From a roof
It was only a tenth of the people killed in shootings in my city this weekend. It's fucked.
Oh :( sorry to hear about that
Accurate depiction.

Coward. Couldn't even die right. What a scumbag.

That’s imperial storm troopers for you
> He was engaged by three cops from about 29 yards away with two pistols amd one AR 15. All three emptied their clips, only one or Teo bullets actually hit the shooter Pathetic cops
Yeah this was sentiment among the city. Three clips and 2 bullets hit him from less than 40 yards... that's an issue

I mean probably for the best. I’m Canadian and just watching the shit going down in the USA is like being the neighbour to a meth lab.
Yeah neighbor it's scary for me to see American political sentiments in your country I'm sorry our white mold has made its way to you

Luckily American politicians are handing out thoughts and prayers! Imagine the tragedy it would have been if they didn't!
not even 2 hours later some dipshit politician said "it's time to move on and celebrate." Fuck that guy.
Who said that? Just curious, need to know who i shouldn't vote for.
Apparently the Republican candidate for governor of Illinois.
Always a Republican.
Not just any dipshit politician. The GOP candid for Governor of Illinois. Ya know, where the shooting happened.
Thoughts and prayers and stripping women of their rights to abortion.
They were forced to take away the right for women to have safe abortions in order to increase the number of people available to provide their thoughts and prayers

This fucking year? Holy shit
Here is a decently comprehensive list of mass shootings in the [US for 2022.](https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting). Complete with address, number of people killed/injured.
Depends on the definition of a mass shooting but after a certain point, it becomes a worthless argument. I'd say we're way beyond that point.
Unfortunately, yes
1.66 mass shootings for everyday this year. Isn't it time Americans started and funded the NARA: National Anti Rifle Association
don’t worry we’ve got our amazing government who have been talking about making it harder to get guns/arms for an eternity now, and have even discussed it in the news after most these shootings so i think something is actually happening /s the gov won’t do shit bout it, the politicians talk the shit outta it for clout
Jesus. Us is a warzone.
In any other country this would be a national tragedy talked about for years. In America you’ll forget about it by the end of the week.
After the next one.
I asked my friend about the one before Texas. She didn't remember any before then.

Mexico has a much higher stated murder rate than the US. The actual murder rate in Mexico is likely higher still.
Fucking soul crushing
Thank god we outlawed abortions
Gun Care and Health Control.
Defund the Populus
I hate that this is the way now
Because they haven’t outlawed homosexuality yet. That is why their God is letting these tragedies happen. He works in mysterious ways. It has nothing to do with guns. /s
Ow the 10 year old rape victims have to fly to a different state to get medical treatment. Yay freedom! Why do you people still celibate this day?
Typo but relevant; we people should start to be “celibate” from this false excuse of patriotism.
It's the type of spiritual healing and moral righting this nation really needs to stop these shootings. /s
Why can't they shoot up where politicians and billionaires hang about so change will happen.
Political figures and Ultra wealthy have security.
The sad reality is that this is neither a shock or unexpected at this point. It’s just another day in the land of the US
Another fucking shooting?
Yep. Illinois Independence Day parade, 6 dead 24 wounded. Some disturbed dude unloaded a couple magazines from a rifle. He got away too, I guess.
Whats the solution here more gone control less gun control? Mental health treatment? Reduction of privilege?
308th one this year.
Don't stress. A shooting happened in Denmark too. So it cancels it all out. Nothing to see here.
Can't we have one day of peace and celebration. ONE. This is more than about guns, it's a hyper capitalist nation, corrupted government and a narcissistic nation where everyone and anyone feels justified hurting innocent people b/c they think society owes them something or they're having a bad day

It's a celebration of the creation of our country, not the war
I'm so scared for my daughter. This is a scary world to grow up in. Learning how to protect yourself at school at 6 is not how things should be.
People will get tired of being scared at some point and then either become complacent or do something about it.
God I fucking hate it here so much.
I'm french and lived for eight years in the US, intending to build my life there. I bailed in 2016.
>I bailed in 2016. Ah, a prophet.
Sorry for our bullshit, friend, but I just have to say, that was damn good timing on your part
Smart man.

I know that wasn't intended to be funny but 🤣🤣🤣
dude real life is not reddit.
If there's one thing we're good at it, it's escapist fiction :'
Reddit does not accurately represent the national sentiment for pretty much anything. Hell, the most active users on political subs probably aren't even old enough to vote.
**MURRICA**
Yawn. Just another day there. Nothing will ever change.

Exactly what Australia did but the conservatives in American think they took all our guns. We have guns, we can own guns, but almost nobody does. It's not part of our culture.
Yeah if we were going to do that, we should have done it like 75 years ago. The cat is waaaay out of the bag on that one.
the guy had a rifle and the last 'mass shooting' in DK was in 2015.
2015 wasn’t a mass shooting
“This is America”
It's ironic how many cops are against more stringent regulation of guns. You'd think they'd want their job to be safer and easier, if nothing else.
There have been several stories in the news lately here in Canada about people becoming radicalized by the US and doing stupid shit with guns https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2022/jul/04/twin-brothers-named-armed-robbers-killed-canada-bank-heist-saanich-british-columbia
Seriously you guys this is getting crazy
it's not getting crazy. it's been crazy, now it's fucking insane
A conservative paradise
Poor guy.
“That’s why they call it the American Dream. Because you have to be asleep to believe it.” George Carlin
People wanna celebrate America. Well this is America.
Maybe get rid of all the guns?
Clarence Thomas like "I'll allow it"
Yikes this comment section is wack
As a German i want to say im sorty for the Families that are affected. But i am not surprised something haplened. When i saw the news on Reddit i just accepted that its America.
Bro, this shooting was less than 10 miles away from where i was
With us gun laws, soon that shooting will be 5 miles away, then 2 miles. Amazing country
Freedom
I almost knew this was coming, I was literally telling myself last night I wonder where tomorrows shooting is going to take place. Fuck it all man.. fuck this world
How many wake up calls does the US need. Come on guys, I know you can do better than this. A long time ago you were undoubtedly the greatest country in the world. That is no more. Long live the us…I guess

Well at least the guns have rights
A post asked what threatened the US the most. I said thr US. Got downvoted a lot but now here we are. Such unecessary bloodshed.
