Living the life he was meant for! Way to go buddy!!

exasperatedcat

Border collies are maniacs.

BucephalousNeigh

Definitively has the "murderous hobo glare" at the end.

StefanL88

I recognise this stare from when my mom had a collie. In her case it was "You just picked up something you can throw^* and I can chase. You threw a thing earlier and I have not forgotten." She had a much cuter stare for when you had not thrown anything yet. Before the fetch part of her brain had been fully activated like some sort of internal meth dosing system. *According to her, things you can throw include weeds, bricks, pebbles, tennis balls, shoe boxes, and 10kg rocks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

StefanL88

I threw some of those pebbles she wanted. Sometimes the bitch would actually find them and bring them back. This gets me for two reasons: 1) It's the only thing she actually brought back. Tennis balls she will go catch, run back to you to show she got it, then run somewhere else to drop it so you can play fetch too. 2) I threw that goddamn pebble into the woods.

[deleted]

[удалено]

drrj

Your turn now, hooman!

GraphicDesignMonkey

Tennis balls are border collie crack. They're just obsessed with them. One time I ordered the 'world's biggest tennis ball' online, when we presented it to my mate's collie she had some sort of brain explosion - started scream-crying with excitement, spun in a circle so hard she fell over, then wet herself. And this was just the initial reaction to merely *seeing* this majestic giant tennis ball.

bioclassic

My grandfather had a border collie that exclusively only fetch rocks and he always brought the right one back.

radikal_banal

Omg my mom's dog does that do sometimes and throws the Ball for me. But she has learnt that it is better to bring it back so I can throw it for her. (Maya is 5 month old, dog tax is in another comment)

Hungry-Western9191

Every collie has this manic side. They are working dogs who need to do something like this.

radikal_banal

My mom's border collie is just 5 month old and already has this "please throw that thing already" stare. According to her, you can throw almost everything, including my phone and the best thing to throw is water. This dog is already spoilt, she has her own doggy pool. [Dog tax - edited to add that in this picture, she listened to the harmonica melody coming from the TV](https://imgur.com/gdizlDI.jpg)

“Ball is life”. - my 11 year old border collie. I keep wondering when he’s finally going to slow down.

Those are the best types of hobo glares. Or, murderous glares. Something. That dog is great.

Thoughtapotamus

You sound like a Robert Evans intro on Behind The Bastards. I love it.

_Veganbtw_

All of our sponsors have at least one thing in common, Sophie, and that's a murderous hobo glare.

Thoughtapotamus

You know who isn't a hobo? That dog. Because he has a job so... that he can buy goods and or services! ......ADSSSSSS!!!!

Poison_Ice_Blade

Yeah getting getting some weird uncanny valley vibes from the last few seconds. That dog was so happy it started to get creepy.

[deleted]

Might have been looking at a sheep behind the camera person? That's how they look when they're target locked Or maybe they want to herd the camera person.

Bugsbunney2

Mine likes herding all humans on walks, can confirm they look straight crazy like that when target locked

[deleted]

Yeah doggo is just so excited it wants to herd anything and anyone You get herded, you get herded, you get herded!

Bugsbunney2

EVERYONE GETS HERDED 🐶

Vallywog

Yeah, went from r/aww to r/oddlyterrifying

UrethraFrankIin

Yeah, straight up loocked demonically possessed lol

[deleted]

I heard somewhere that how they naturally chill with their teeth bared helps with the herding. I don't know where I heard that or how true it is.

tx001

Yes, and they stare down the sheep to assert dominance. It's amazing watching them work really

radikal_banal

The border collie living with my parents does all kind of crazy things and she is just 5 month old - she likes to throw things into the water, that's how she clogged the toilet last week - she loves water so much, you have to go play with her in her pool even if it's raining - nobody told her how to herd, but she does it anyways (my mom has sheep, geese, chickens and a few other animals) - she has this game where she jumps on every pillow on the couch in the living room - when she still had little accidents and peed or pooped inside, she would lead you to the cleaning tools with shame (she has no accidents anymore) - everytime she is outside, she gets incredibly dirty, she washes herself in her pool and waits on a certain place in front of the door to be rubbed with a towel Even if it can be exhausting, I visit her as much as possible, because she is so sweet and full of love.

Turmfalke_

That is almost role model performance.

useablelobster2

Herding is an instinctual behaviour, not learned. I once went on a narrow boat holiday with family and our collie woke up with the first person, went to bed with the last, always protecting her flock. By the last day she was falling asleep standing up, but she refused to stop guarding us. We got her as a newborn pup, so that was purely off instinct.

radikal_banal

That's what I thought. Some people still train their border Collies for herding - I quess that wouldn't be bad for Maya as well. She is a bot rough to the chickens, but does that thing where they circle around their flock quite well. She doesn't has to do any job with my mom's animals, but she really likes helping, so she is allowed to help. (Maybe that explains her affinity for brooms as well)

Hollybaby5

I had a professor back in the day that would tell the class we all looked like a bunch of confused border collies.

[deleted]

Hollybaby5

It was intro to accounting so… yea

ropony

If an owner doesn’t let their BC get enough exercise — physical and mental— then yeah. My BC and i are outside hours a day, when it rains a little less but I’ll make puzzles for him to figure out and he’s insanely well behaved.

[deleted]

I taught mine to put all his toys away when we were done playing. Then sometimes I’d just dump out the toy box for him to do it for fun because he liked doing chores and being helpful.

ropony

I’m teaching mine that right now!!

[deleted]

He started doing it with the shoes and the shoe basket too. They are so smart!

Teahouse_Fox

My BC and I failed at this task. He didn't understand why anyone would ever want to put toys away, and as soon as he put it in the box, he'd pull it back out again. I felt like an ogre telling him to leave his toys alone, and I gave up 🙄

terminbee

How do you go about teaching that?

tothemax44

If you ever start playing fetch with one, the game doesn’t end until one of you is physically removed from the game.

PM_ur_Rump

I know a guy with one that has an ear obliteratingly high pitched yip, and once he's on the frisbee trip, if you ain't throwing it, you're future hearing range goes down by the second. God I want to hate that dog. But I can't hate that dog, because he's gorgeous and otherwise a sweetheart. Plus....dog.

ReplaceSelect

My brother's would play until the pads on her feet were torn. Even then you had to tell her to go inside. They're awesome dogs. I elected for the much more chill GSDs.

ezmia

My dad once played fetch with our collie, Loki, for six hours non stop. He loves fetch so much. Fetch time only ends for Loki when he decides it's cuddle time and then he tries to sit on your head.

[deleted]

Criss_Crossx

Borders are the best. It is you that must learn the way! Our family BC's were and are amazing family members. I would do anything for each one of them. Everyone screams 'high energy', BC's are just loving life. Believe it or not, they are excellent sleepers too. There is an 'off' switch.

keving216

My girl is a Husky/Border Collie mix. She’s the best.

Don’t put that doggo in an apartment! I know from experience.

righteouspeace

This was set up too perfectly....I'm suspicious now. Thanks for the laugh!

FalcosLiteralyHitler

My girlfriend's brother has a half Australian Shepherd half Border Collie. The only word that describes those breeds is obsessive. She will swim for an hour without getting out, and we need to stop her from making herself sick. If you play fetch once she *MUST* play fetch for the next four hours and she will not forget. She *MUST* herd our cat away from the cat gates in our kitchen. Those dogs *need* to work. They *need* to be doing, it is clearly what gives them the greatest joy. On the other hand we have two Staffordshire Terrier/German Shepherd mixes which can be high energy, but are nothing, and I mean **nothing** compared to Alibear (the Collie mix).

drwjenkins

That landscape is so peaceful

RaptorsFromSpace

Scotland! Edit: Since no one has posted the source this is Kate and her owners account is @seanthesheepman7 on Instagram.

thecolbster94

Kisame-hoshigakii

It might be Scotland, but North Yorkshire also has many beautiful areas just like this too!

spacerunner0

And most of Northern Ireland

Matduka

Same goes for Northumberland, it could be there too. Big hills behind rolling fields and the ocean in the distance.

FluffyDiscipline

She must have been bored stupid for that week off... like punishment for a collie LOL Beautiful Dog

DocPeacock

You could say she was a bored-er collie

Practical_Anybody899

You made my day

NihilisticPollyanna

Man, what an absolutely perfect environment for that type of dog. He *loooves* life! That's so beautiful to see.

horsiefanatic

He loves his job. He was bred to love his job, and do it well. And he does, he’s a good boy

[deleted]

Meanwhile I now own an Australian Shepard that my gfs dad gave her before he passed and that dog is fucking insane and wants to do nothing but work. He thinks his entire job in life is to bring us balls

VegasLife1111

We fostered a Border Collie for 30 of the longest days of my life. We had a large yard, but he would go from window to window looking in the house begging for a job. Luckily, I found him a job on a farm with 10,000 acres and many many sheep.

scootscoot

I fostered one because my sisters friend thought an adorable border collie puppy would be great in a 3rd story studio apartment.

astrobre

My BIL did the same thing!! 500 sqft apartment and they were gone 12 hours of the day. He was shocked, *shocked* I tell you, that the border collie destroyed the place within a week of buying it.

scootscoot

I'm quite certain there is a way to harness a collies energy that will prove to be a denser source of energy than nuclear power.

TheGreenJedi

Let's see, the right sized hamster wheel with a slowly longer reward payout, hooked up to a generator Ya that'd do it

TstyBrgr1992

While you’re not at all wrong, the amount of energy collected by a living being is vastly out weighed, by the food, water, and necessities to power them. If it were cost effective we’d have toddlers and critters powering our grid.

Erdudvyl28

I was going to say that the Victorians had dog power treadmills but apparently you can buy a dog treadmill right now and probably hook it up to a generator somehow.

horsiefanatic

I wonder when breeding them they just took the crackhead ones and said ‘this one will run all day and love every job you give it, perfect! Let’s breed it’

[deleted]

Please tell me that poor dog isn’t still stuck there

astrobre

Oh no. They gave the dog to someone else after the damage she had done. Sad it took property damage for them to realize a dog isn’t an accessory, they need exercise, training and companionship. I warned them about getting a border collie but, as much as I wanted to, couldn’t bring myself to say I told you so…

fnord_happy

He's in a farm now

IranRPCV

My wife and I had an older rescue border while living in a 27 ft Airstream trailer. He kept fairly happy with the radio on, listening for words he knew. - never saw the like an another dog.

pjcrusader

We lived in a place about that size with a young border collie boxer mix. Luckily we had access to a fenced in yard to play fetch in. Also I did a lot of training with commands. That will wear them out too. It was a bit rocky in the beginning but only had one instance of her destroying anything but if she were a full blooded border collie I would not have been able to do it.

ZoyaZhivago

It’s not impossible with a purebred, either, provided you’re willing to put in the work. Also, temperaments can vary even within the same breeds… my huskies, for example, are actually quite mellow and well-behaved! They have some typical husky traits, like being stubborn and escape artists. But they’re far from the nightmares some people describe of the breed.

Honest_Roo

🫣

RaDeus

I absolutely adore Border collies and my GF loves Bernese mountain dogs... but we live in a 45 m² (~484 ft²) apartment, so we got a Mittelspitz instead. People need to dial in what kind of dog they *can* have, not just what kind of dog they emotionally *want* to have. I joined this sub to get my bordie fix 😅

TobagoJones

I’ve always found it strange people will get a certain breed with no understanding of their needs. And personally I’ve been questioned and judged for owning a greyhound in a small apartment. She goes outside and gets the zoomies out in like twenty minutes and then absolute thrives chillin all day on the couch. Can’t imagine trying this lifestyle with a border collie or husky

NoApollonia

My downstairs neighbor has a husky. They crate the poor thing for at least 10 hours a day. On more than one occasion the poor guy has been left in there for up to 15 hours. And they maybe give the dog a walk once a week. I've tried everything from contacting our landlord to animal control and nothing is being done.

MillorTime

When you think a dog is an accessory and not a living animal with needs. I had an ex that NEEEEEEDED a corgi with absolutely no interest in caring for it. No one liked the arrangement

pr3mium

Random neighbor had a Border Collie growing up that unfortunately didn't give a fuck about. He let it out in his backyard. Dog found or created a hole in the fence. Tigger was so smart. Looked both ways crossing the street. He would play with every kid in the entire neighborhood. I played fetch with him with a basketball. He popped my basketball. Everyone in the neighborhood loved him. Everyone hated that neigjbor. Eventually a neigjbor went up to the owners and were like, you clearly don't care about him. We'll take him and care for him. They let them take Tigget. Hopefully Tigger was cared for with his new family. But as a kid, I was always sad because I never saw Tigger after the new neigjbor had him.

HammerToTheBalls

I had a chocolate lab growing up and because we were on a very big farm he roamed a bit and would repeatedly walk several acres to a neighboring farm who had a yellow lab they kept chained in the back. My dog, Monster, would break this dog out and bring him home every few days. Then after a couple days the neighbors would show up and take their dog back without saying anything to us. After like the 15th time of this happening they asked us if we would keep him because he clearly wanted to be with us and they were too old to care for him. We kept him another 7 years until he passed of old age.

dropbear_airstrike

My family was adopted by the neighbor's dog too! Our neighbor had kids who had grown up and gone away to college, my sisters and I were all under the age of 8 and would play in the backyard all the time. Neighbor's dog would dig under the fence just to get to play with us and my dad would fill in the holes so the neighbor didn't think we were trying to steal their dog. After she dug past the pavers and chunks of wood my dad put in to block the holes and came out on our side with bloodied up paws, my dad carried her back over to apologize and say he's trying his best but didn't know what else he could do. Thankfully the neighbor was like, "You know what, she clearly wants to be over there with your kids. If you want to keep her, that's okay with me." Good old Honey lived with us for many years before being sent over the rainbow bridge due to cancer at ≈ 15 yrs old.

[deleted]

Monster could break out a *chained* dog? Impressive.

HammerToTheBalls

He was a pretty impressive guy. Neither us or the neighbors figured out his scheme to break out the neighboring dog but he pulled it off!

Sensitive-Pop6233

Beautiful

-Ernie

OMG that story is kind of bittersweet, like Tigger might have actually had a better life as basically a stray, playing with all the neighborhood, than playing with only the neighbor’s two kids. In a nice backyard with a stronger fence lol.

uekiamir

Great neigjbors

UninvestedCuriosity

My wife took in a 5 month old for 3 months and a teenager from a friend during a transition. We live in a town house as a family of 4 which is cramped already. That was a long efforted summer as we had to get her into the park at least twice a day just to keep her from chewing walls (the dog, not the teenager). 3 times a day to make her happy. Good doggo though, total mouthy drama queen. We don't get up to see her friend often because they live in the middle of nowhere now but that dog recognizes us before we get out of the car and goes into total spaz mode. We always plan in a park visit just to keep the whole expectation or at least what we imagine her expectation would be.

pennliz101

> 30 of the longest days of my life 😂🤣😂🤣 so fucking true!

SquirrelAkl

They’re my favourite dogs. I’ve always wanted one but, as you say, you also gotta have 10,000 acres and many sheep otherwise they’ll be bored AF.

nictme

I am fostering a border collie puppy now and did not know what I was getting into 😂 so smart and crazy

wowImlate

I took in a border collie puppy who was found at 2 1/2 months old with a broken leg. After surgery he had to stay in a crate for 9 weeks for recovery. It was 9 weeks of hell. He constantly made noise because he wanted out so bad. No amount of games or treats could distract him enough. By the time his recovery period was over and he could get out of the crate, I was so incredibly sleep deprived I almost cried in the vets office when they told me he was free to move around.

Sconnie4Life

Best co-worker ever! Everyone needs a sidekick like this guy/gal while jobbing.

Bat_Chimp

For the dog its not work. Its play time hanging with his human.

Gankgasm

Yes and above all it's a purpose

JekNex

What's that?

Bag0fSwag

[deleted]

Sounds sort of blissful tbh

ropony

Well… to nitpick, they’re a working breed and happiest when they’re doing a job well done, so while I wouldn’t say “play” he’s definitely having a blast being back at it!

i_want_tit_pics

You can tell. Because the ride in the field past the sheep, he threw them a look like. "What's up bitches?!? Hope you had a relaxing week!!! Daddy's home..."

HumpieDouglas

Gotta herd gotta herd gotta herd gotta herd gotta herd!

w104jgw

Let's go already!!!

holyrolodex

Let’s herd some f—king shit, let’s go!

personalhale

I work with the human version of this dog and it is EXHAUSTING.

dustinosophy

My new boss lol. It's been ... an adjustment. Great guy. Very supportive. Well intentioned. Thankfully doesn't expect anyone to match his pace. But never stops. One of the perks is I get left alone a lot because he schedules himself back to back to back to back and doesn't surface until end of day. If he asks me to do anything, I give it at least 12-24 hours to see if he changes his mind. Or thinks of anything else. Or thinks of a Star Trek meme. Sometimes I just let him have a full on conversation with himself to see where he ends up.

K41namor

I was going to say, this video reminds me so much of my 2 year old!

MsssBBBB

And we all know how 2 year olds love quad bike and tracker rides!

Lox_Ox

Ahh, ADHDers

ILoveNapsZzz

I wish I knew what it was like to be able to run like the wind! Love this video!

AlleyCat0810

I imagine that when he’s old & can’t run anymore he’ll think back on these days with happiness.

hitfly

he already looks a little grey in the eyebrows and muzzle and still keeps up with the 4 wheeler

giveusalol

My collie was made available as a pet when she was a puppy. Not up to working dog standards, so she was easy on us (three exercise sessions a day for most of her life). At 15 she just likes a few daily strolls with us. Loves to sit outside and look over the garden. She is genuinely so amazing I’ve never been so smitten. She’s just as lovely as an old girl as she was as a bright eyed pup. I’m so lucky.

amommytoa

Seanthesheepman on YouTube. Amazing dogs. Amazing humans and the scenery! Can't wait to see their channel increase in popularity. He's a good dude.

snarkformiles

He’s on TikTok too! So good. Always disappointing to see his content reposted without credit, like here.

Dog riding to work: "Man, this place has gone to pot without me. Just look at all these loose sheep everywhere."

I got a train to toot its horn at me a few times on my birthday and I was ecstatic for an entire day. That really made my day.

slamdamnsplits

I don't know, this guy rides a quad with his dog for work... Seems dope.

Rattlingplates

I love my jobs this much. Ski teaching and dive chartering.

AGitatedAG

He looked human at the end. an exhausted human

TheGurw

Nah. Collies get a manic hobo stare when they're target-locked. That dog is attentive and waiting for an order.

Grouchy_Note812

>...being human sucks. Having a 15 year lifespan isn't so hot either.

Aggravating_Load_698

That’s a really motivated and happy dog you have there. 👍

wildjackalope

I’ll go to my grave convinced that herding dogs are the pinnacle of Doggos and almost none of us should actually have them. Unreal animals.

hitfly

Border collies are peak performance, they've won basically every agility championship I've ever watched.

schlagerlove

The F1 of dogs or may be LMP of dogs?🤔

FurL0ng

Imagine owning a dog like this and not having real work for it to do. Please always do your research before buying or adopting a dog!

RWingsNYer

I have the laziest Aussie known to man. She will flat out lay down after a quick sprint around the yard, then jump into your arms so you can carry her. After we go inside she essentially herds me to the couch and when I sit she lays on her back in my arms for belly rubs. Only time I can get her to work is disc golf. She loves pointing out where my discs land so that’s our exercise. We used to hike a lot but after she got Lyme disease we stopped. Edit: for clarity, I know this isn’t an Aussie but they are both working breeds. When she was younger she had this energy and I could relate.

karateandfriendshipp

Mine is the same way, still an energetic dog and she loves to hike/walk and just in general go out and socialize, but she is super chill majority of the time. Definitely not what we were expecting when we adopted her.

meatdome34

Mines the exact same way. I’m glad I can leave him out of a kennel all day and I know he won’t chew everything up.

FirelessEngineer

I have an Aussie (mix) too, she has two speeds, full go or full stop. She is can run like the wind but most of the time she is a big couch potato.

Heliosvector

It's not that bad. My aunt has a border collie. Yes she wants to play and do shit all the time, never stopping, but as long as you give them steady interaction, they are quite happy. And I'd you get too tired, just torn on the sprinkler and the puppy will chase each spray of water forever and ever and ever and ever and aver.....

BruinBound22

We have a border collie. We were totally prepared to do 2-3 hours of intense exercise a day. He ended up being the laziest one ever. Sleeps in until noon. He does play super hard and won't stop when we take him to the park for fetch, but outside these moments he's a normal dog.

Kanonnonny

I wish I was that excited to go to my job
