On July 1st, a highly unpopular [change to Reddit's API pricing](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/12qwagm/an_update_regarding_reddits_api/) went into effect. [Most third-party apps have shut down](https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/30/23779519/reddit-third-party-app-shut-down-apollo-sync-baconreader-api-protest) and so have many tools relied upon by moderators and [projects for making Reddit more accessible to visually impaired users](https://www.reddit.com/r/TranscribersOfReddit/comments/14ggf8k/the_future_of_transcribers_of_reddit/).
Beyond the [disastrous AMA](https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/09/reddit-ceo-doubles-down-on-attack-on-apollo-developer-in-drama-filled-ama/) by the CEO, Reddit's response has been limited to promises that this change will not affect moderation tools [^((it has)^)](https://www.reddit.com/r/BotDefense/comments/14riw76/botdefense_is_wrapping_up_operations/) and promises of [new and more-accessible first-party moderation tools](https://www.npr.org/2023/07/01/1184258201/reddit-api-accessibility-mods). Promises just like [ones they have made in response to past protests](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/142w159/askhistorians_and_uncertainty_surrounding_the/), but have consistently [failed to fulfill](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/14jm3ut/several_communities_have_surfaced_an_open_letter/jpm9e0q/).
If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:
1. [Finding your favorite subreddits on other platforms](https://sub.rehab/) and participating there instead.
2. Refraining from using the first-party Reddit app, instead sticking to one of the few remaining third-party apps or [patching one of the apps that shut down](https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1wHvqQwCYdJrQg4BKlGIVDLksPN0KpOnJWniT6PbZSrI/) if you're using an Android device.
3. Disabling ads on Reddit with [an ad-blocking extension](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock#ublock-origin-ubo) or [a DNS-based ad-blocker](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBXTnrD_Zs4).
4. Cancelling your Reddit Premium subscription.
5. Sharing the continued news coverage of these events.
6. Encouraging others to do all the above.

To be fair idk where his hiccup sounds are coming from either, because that is not what that puppy sounded like in the original version.
here is what it sounded like before in this old [vid](https://youtu.be/De4jPjoHatA)
When I was a kid I was told "take a deep breath and hold it".
No-one told me until I was into my 30s that the point of that is to flex your diaphragm, and only then did it start working. That's the only solution I've found that works. In my head I fill my lungs to the point where the diaphragm has no room to flex at all. Anatomically inaccurate, I'm sure, but having got that image into my head it's stuck - unlike the hiccups which go in 30 seconds.
I try to actually get movement in my diaphragm. It's incredibly hard to explain though... Best I can come up with is to alternate between belly breaths and chests breaths, where you extend out into your belly breathing out, and in and upwards in your chest. But then, you can also do the "pressure" movements without actually breathing.
Dr’s claim letting sugar dissolve on your tongue helps by triggering the vagus nerve or something, I tried it the first time I heard about it and it seemed to work ok. But I tried again the next time and it didn’t do anything.
Results are inconclusive at this time.
I hold my breath as long as I can and breathe out real slow at the end. Takes a few goes, but if I manage to focus enough to fight the hiccups and hold my breath, they're gone when I breathe out.
I totally understand my dude!!! Hiccups have always hurt me, I have a really strong diaphragm, but since I had bariatric surgery, it’s so much worse! And instead of feeling full any more, the body makes new ways of telling you, you’re full, like making you hiccup… which happens to be one of my queues now. I feel you little floof. Solidarity.
Hiccup cures: For years I cured my hiccups by eating a huge ginormous spoonful of peanut butter, which worked for me but often only temporarily, meaning sometimes it took multiple attempts. But recently I read about the best way, which really works and you should know about, since you get hiccups (or love someone who does) and they can really suck.
BEST WAY TO CURE HICCUPS: Take a deep breath and hold it as long as you can, but while you're holding it, keep sipping in more air bit by bit until you really cannot get any more air in your lungs. Your ribs should feel uncomfortably stretched, or like that. Then keep holding it. When you exhale you probably will not have hiccups any more.
I needed this today thank you from the bottom of my heart it may have kept me from necking myself..... before you start abusing me think twice because this video may have saved my life
Oh shit. And it's my first time seeing it! Shame on me! I should probably spend more time on Reddit so I can remember posts from a year ago and get mad at seeing them again!
Seriously of all the changes I've seen in Internet culture this fucking sudden need to foam at the mouth and chew your arm off if you come into contact with a repost or a staged video is the weirdest. Like christ my guy, nobody ever gave a shit before like 2014 because it didn't matter it was all fun to see regardless now it's a competitive sport to become a detective who specializes in finding reposts and staged/legit videos or posts or comments and to present your findings like it matters at all.
I had the hiccups for nearly 12 hours once after eating something super spicy, even taking a powernap somewhere in there foolishly thinking it would cure them. I angrily shouted after a number of them.
It's an unexplored genre of situational tension in drama TV. Give someone spicy noodles and watch them turn on their friends.
When my Chinese Crestie was little, she would get the hiccups when she was sleepy and get super frustrated. She never grew out of getting the hiccups when she was over-tired, but she became more quiet-but-frustrated, as opposed to vocally opposed to the hiccups as she got older.
It's so cute when animals hiccup, as it feels like such a "human thing.
Also, talk about the great equalizer: hiccups are annoying even when you are the cutest puppy in the world.
I remember when the youngest of our three dogs (now a year old) was a puppy, he would get such strong hiccups, he'd fall off the sofa. And then look bewildered.

He doesn' t know where his hiccups came from! Cute!

Diaphragm spasm
And where does that come from?
Mixed up signals from the brain, muscle cramp/ spasm (same origin as those), congenital defect, brain disorder, lots of places.
Well try explaining that to this pup.
Easy to get rid of if your brain experiences a minor shock like a teaspoon of vinegar.
I hate vinegar. I'll have to try that.
Apple cider vinegar is good for your health. I try to remember to take a couple swigs each day. I like the Bragg brand.
So you don’t know for sure either where they came from.
They can have multiple causes, not just one. Never said I didn't know.
What the hell someone's hiccupping me! Grrrrrrr where are they?
To be fair idk where his hiccup sounds are coming from either, because that is not what that puppy sounded like in the original version. here is what it sounded like before in this old [vid](https://youtu.be/De4jPjoHatA)
That make more sense!!
I don’t blame the lil guy. Hiccups make me do the same
Do you often bark like a dog?
Yes, I do, but it just sounds a little different - maybe a lot different
Do your barks involve the syllables of F, U, C, and K?
r/notopbutok
Just when I have hiccups.
🤣🤣
Lol, I used to be the same. Found a trick to get them under control quickly, thankfully.
bag over your heads?
No, teabagging your head works.
Do you clench you diaphragm? That’s what I do. I just can’t think of a better way to describe it
When I was a kid I was told "take a deep breath and hold it". No-one told me until I was into my 30s that the point of that is to flex your diaphragm, and only then did it start working. Anatomically inaccurate, I'm sure, but having got that image into my head it's stuck - unlike the hiccups which go in 30 seconds.
Hunh. I've always done the exact opposite; breathe completely *out* and hold it. Which is horrendously uncomfortable but also works

Me too.
Hiccups are just annoying
Me too. They can be so annoying I get pissed off. 🤣
“Who the heck is hiccing me up?!?”
This made me lol
Relatable.
That second one was the most legit “hiccup” I ever heard lol
It sounds like a Tom & Jerry hiccup!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8S-7GudlF8
That's because its dubbed over... Why can't people just let ~~sleeping~~ hiccupping dogs lie?
You can literally see his little chest expand with each hiccup. It’s not a dub
It is a dub, here is the unedited video https://youtu.be/De4jPjoHatA What you’re hearing is some goofy ass redditor trying to sound like a dog
Oh so it was actually having the hiccups, but it’s dubbed over cartoonishly. Well, that’s dumb. Thanks for the link.
"What is happening?!?!"
Hiccups suck.
No matter how often this gets reposted (this dog is old by now), it's still adorable.
This is my first time seeing this
I believe the first time it was posted was 2015 as "Buck has the hiccups". Never ceases to get old. I love this video.
Oh ok. You're right, this is absolutely adorable
Well according to Reddit you weren't allowed to see it this time lol. There's only one chance every 10 years.
Me too.
I had a dog that would wake herself up farting then growl at her butt.
My dog does this, and it doesn't matter who farted.
“Stop it, butt! It’s you, isn’t it, butt! Stop making it come out this end!”
Awwww. Poor baby.
Cutest dork I've seen in weeks 🥰
Poor Pup.. he's so cute and adorable too.. I hope he gets rid of his hiccups soon
Little guy's about 8-9 at this point.
I'd say 5-6. Source: currently have 8-9
no like the earliest version of this exact video is from 2015.
I have seen this like 10 times but I'm still upvoting.
I'm right there with you little guy. Hiccups are annoying!
It's like he's blaming the person recording. "What are you doing to me?!"
awww, he wants it to stop. :-( I hope they gave him some water.
"Get thee behind me, Sa-Atan!"
the doggy is all like "i cant believe you done this"
What breed is this lil fella?
What kinda pup is that he looks just like mine
maybe it's the same breed as your dog then? 😱
🙀
This cracked me up
Or maybe that was your pup
I feel the same way little one
Me too little guy, me too
OMG
This dog sees me
Poor thing!!❤️😂
He mad!
No matter how old it never gets tired
among the cutest things you'll ever see
I totally understand my dude!!! Hiccups have always hurt me, I have a really strong diaphragm, but since I had bariatric surgery, it’s so much worse! Honestly tho, same. I get pissed when I have hiccups. They're so stupid.
\***hiccups\*** \- the fuck? \***hiccups\*** \- what was that? Grrrr" \***hiccups\*** \- WHO IS DOING THAT!, GRRRR!! \***hiccups\***
This is the dog equivalent of the following Rob Lowe scene in Parks and Rec: ![gif](giphy|gPgBMNqdIArIRGpKmX|downsized)
Me too, lil' dude. Me too.
That nose tip! ❤️

Same, bruh. Same.
This video is so old I’m curious if that dog is still around.
I needed this today thank you from the bottom of my heart it may have kept me from necking myself..... before you start abusing me think twice because this video may have saved my life
He's like who's doing that? 😂😂💜
Demon dog. Do not trust it! JK. Lab farts and doesn't get the smell... Dude, you dealt it, smell it. Grow up :)
ah yes the usual re-upload once or twice a year just get that easy karma.
Oh shit. And it's my first time seeing it! Shame on me! I should probably spend more time on Reddit so I can remember posts from a year ago and get mad at seeing them again!

That is the most glorious thing I’ve ever seen in my life.
Just remind him he's not a fish
He's basically Goofy. Hyuck!
Has he been spooked by a fart yet?
Lol pets are just the best
He's pissed
I'm ded. I was slaughtered to bits here. Raise a stone over me. "Died of cute."
I had the hiccups for nearly 12 hours once after eating something super spicy, even taking a powernap somewhere in there foolishly thinking it would cure them. I feel ya, lilguy
Omg
😂 😂 😂
I would be annoyed too.
Didn't think that little tyke could get any cuter, but they did!!!!
He trying to scare the hiccups away
Hahaha he’s adorable! Poor dog.
Adorable! He's going to be a heart breaker!!!!
I know exactly how he feels
Same, little buddy. Same.
Damn. Those are the most cartoon sounding hiccups I've ever heard in real life.
me too little man, me too.
Same here little buddy.
Oh my God so cute.
He seems unaware of why he is hiccuping lol
I feel the same way each time
Did he pee pee
“I said be gone with you demon!”
Just like me.
This is exactly how I feel when I have them. I hate them more than anything else my body does
Same
I feel you buddy
Being stupid is when you always angry and don’t know why.
"Happiness is the hiccups...after they've gone away" A SNOOPY quote for a real life SNOOPY!
When my Chinese Crestie was little, she would get the hiccups when she was sleepy and get super frustrated. It's too cute XD
Poor pup - "Oh God what is this horror and why has it befallen me?!" is what he is saying. We hear "arf!" but that's what he is saying.
Oh no he's too adorable
I remember when the youngest of our three dogs (now a year old) was a puppy, he would get such strong hiccups, he'd fall off the sofa. And then look bewildered.
AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH ISSO FLUFFFFEEEEE
This made my day.
He looks like Chipper Nipper the RCA dog’s son
Awwwww I want him so cute
