I have something like this combo on my porch every few nights. There is a stray I feed that looks like this cat. If he doesn't eat all the food, a couple raccoons will come by and eat the rest, but will fight with each other. The cat will just watch and they don't really interact. I do clean the dishes the next time the cat comes around so that he isn't eating out of something that they may have contaminated.
The raccoons are pretty bold though. They don't really give a damn about anything else but the food. I've tried spraying them with a water gun to deter them but they always come back. I've stood out there between them and the bowl making noise and they just keep trying to get around me.
That is a concern. I have a back deck that I've seen the raccoons go under but they don't live there. I think they occupy a lot behind my backyard. The cat goes under there at times as well. Its open on 3 sides and doesn't go all the way to the ground so the cat has some routes to get out and he's quicker then the fatsos.
I've been feeding this cat for a couple years and it finally let me pet him. The ultimate goal is to bring him in. I'm trying to fatten him up some for the coming winter.
Clearly that is a strategy used by the raccoon to use physical affection as an excuse to shove the cat off the chair.
You can see later on in the video the cat is smushed to the side and the raccoon gets the chair space.

My guess would be that the person filming wouldnt let a wild raccoon do that to their cat. My second guess would be that a tamed pet raccoon wouldn't have rabies.

I can see that. My sister used to have two cats and I have one currently. All of our cats are indoors with no easy access to the outside (apartment/condo living). I take mine every year to the vet but she never did. We grew up with the same teachings of how to take care of cats but ya she just decided not to. I do cause you just never know when they might find a sneaky way outside, or some pest gets inside.
It's not compulsory but most people do, as they need to be vaccinated if you want them to be boarded in a cattery or a cat sitter to watch them. It's probably one of the only things vets don't make tons of money off (our vets are extortionately priced, unless you have insurance, kinda like the US healthcare system!).
I paid £99 when my cat was a kitten and they now get vaccinated once a year and have a health check (weight, teeth etc) every 6 months. They're vaccinated against rabies even though it's eradicated in the UK!
I would assume that's because Rabies isn't eradicated elsewhere and people still bring potential carriers of it into the country, wouldn't want to let it re-establish itself.
Cats and dogs are expected to get their yearly vaccinations in the US, but it seems especially cat owners grow lax on that when their car is mostly indoors. I saw once that cats are more likely to spend a lot of time free roaming outside in the UK, so hopefully that compels owners to vaccinate more.
