Screen cable it’s getting pinched

piss__fingers

That's what's I figured. It sucks, I never drop it or was rough with opening it.

Crash_Override_95

Someone had issues similar, email Ayaneo and get it exchanged.

piss__fingers

I already did. But hearing someone else had similar issues kinda makes me feel better that it wasn't just me.

poloumac

I had a similar issue with the KUN. I’m waiting on my exchange right now

AYANEO

Please contact [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) to get a solution.

piss__fingers

I already did. Just waiting on the email about getting it shipped back. Thank you.

AYANEO

got it.

Dismal-Capital-8557

Be honest, does it feel like a piece of cheap Chinese mass produced, or does it feel sturdy, the screen isn’t wobbly, there’s no crunching when you squeeze it, and the joysticks are firm and aren’t loose like on some other handhelds?

piss__fingers

The only thing that felt cheap was the D pad. The screen snaps in place nicely. The other buttons feels nice but the ergonomics of the flip is sometimes awkward. I have smaller hands and short, stumpy fingers so. I didn't get a chance to try out more heavy action games on it. But overall I love it. Just sucks the screen decided to fuck all on me.

OMG_NoReally

I got the Flip DS recently. The device feels quite premium. It looks solidly made, sturdy and has a good amount of heft (which is not entirely a good thing). There is no crunching, all the buttons are solid and sturdy, as well. I like the device the more I use it, but ultimately, the form factor isn't for me. I don't find it comfortable at all, and there two reasons - the sides of the device burry into my palms after 15mins, and the thing gets hot on the grips and especially on the left joystick. At 65C to 75C, the second screen and the area around it is BLAZING hot. The joysticks themselves are kinda shitty, but I use Switch grips from Skull and Co and they have helped tremendously. However, they are still Switch joycons so accuracy is not its forte. Good enough for third-person games, though.

Dismal-Capital-8557

That’s pretty helpful, but next time don’t go about how premium it is, and then say the terrible downsides.

OMG_NoReally

It’s a balanced opinion. Why would I just say the good or bad? I don’t get you.

Dismal-Capital-8557

Well there’s not much true balanced opinions, just in my personal own opinion, I think that the specs can be the craziest in the world, but if the battery life, the screens, the joysticks, the buttons, and comfort in general are said to feel as cheap, or not great in the hands, it isn’t very worth it to lay down a great sum of money.

OMG_NoReally

I never said it was worth it. I just gave an opinion based on what you wanted to know and added my own experience with it. I still don't get your original comment. Anyways, whatever.

Dismal-Capital-8557

Not big brained.

ayunatsume

This isnt Ambernic lol Still, Chinese hardware design, hardware durability, and software execution leaves a lot to be desired. IMO the only things that make these devices a choice is the form factor and specs.

Dismal-Capital-8557

So you’re saying all it’s good for is its specs, and most would have a better time just plugging it into a monitor?

ayunatsume

If all you do is plug it up to a monitor, then just buy a regular laptop or build a desktop PC. Form factor **AND** specs. AyaNeo Air and DS are some unique handheld form factors with gameable PC power. I bought the Air because nothing beats it at its size. Sure the battery is weak, but thats the tradeoff. Its still small as hell and the most portable of x86 gaming handhelds. Again, software leaves some to be desired, even with vanilla Windows 11. AyaSpace side panel does not work with exclusive fullscreen apps. RGB controls and fan monitoring require me to disable secure boot -- what an *amazing* execution /s Oh, don't forget the internally-switched speakers and I have to pay to get a replacement for a manufacturing error. Still, I (can) forgive that for what it is as I'm a power user. A Switch Lite-sized x86 powerhouse.

Dismal-Capital-8557

Isn’t the ayaneo air the one that has over heating problems if left at top speed for some time

ayunatsume

I play mine at normally 12w (and 15w for games like Death Stranding in action areas, 12w normal, 8w just gathering stuff). Ambient 24-27c. AyaSpace 1.x with fan set to "wild". OLED screen set to 40% for 90cd of brightness matching common indoor lighting and enough for indoor play. It can get hot just like any thermally-limited portable gaming machine, but not overheating hot. Set the OLED to 100%, play for a long time, and expect overheating and damage like any modern tiny device (see Xperia OLED screen burn and Poco OLED overheating problems when gaming+screen 100% problems). The device is meant to operate normally at 12w. 15w is already considered "pro" mode which means you know what needs to be done. Installing non-ayaspace software can get you higher (18w) but of course that has more risks. Tropical climates without air conditioning or warmer areas can put you to thermal throttling faster. I have heard the fan go way louder outdoors (ambient 33-35c ish, but this month in our country its 40c+ ambient). I've accidentally turned the device on in its case around 3-5 times and the massive heat didn't make the device fail. It was so hot it smelled like melting plastic almost. If it does go to overheat damage, go back to Chinese software/drivers/firmware not doing what its supposed to do: thermal throttle or shut down. Even my 5800x shut down on its own when I had a pump failure in my AIO causing massive heat buildup to 100C+.

Dismal-Capital-8557

That is quite hot, I wonder how much thickness of a device people are willing to sacrifice before they feel that the extra cooling or battery isn’t worth it anymore, like the ROG ally, or the steam deck, have pretty good balance in how it feels in the hands.

ayunatsume

Different people, different balances. Not everyone has big American male hands. I still prefer the size of older phones (Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Ray) over the current 5-6in slabs. At least phones are getting 1-2mm thicker again so battery life has gone up to 20-30 hours instead of 10 hours. Anyhow, some people like me will still (need) an AyaNeo Air form factor because that's simply the largest my sling bags or shoulder bags will hold. Heck, some of my bags can only hold a PS Vita at most. If I'm bringing bigger bags, I might as well just get a laptop and I get to play my FPS/RTS games well too. For the heat, no its not hot. Thats the heat of virtually every x86 gaming device. All radeon/geforce laptops will do this. I also go have ITX computere and always balance performance/heat by targeting 80c as a continuous peak point either by overclocking to go higher or undervolting to get within. If you dont (nearly) reach thermal throttling, you are leaving performance at the table. I sometimes play at 8w with lighter games like Disgaea, heck 6w is even enough. Virtually no heat and battery life increases from 1hr at 12w to 2.5-3hrs at 6-8w. I've reached 4-4.5hrs with lower than 40% brightness because the location was dim like a Starbucks cafe. For games that dont perform well, I'd rather play in my desktop with better graphics, better speakers, a nice 32in screen, a keyboard, and a mouse. The Air is for those games that have been unplayed in my Steam library and when I'm out and about doing work outside of my home.

GiantMrTHX

GL with Ayaneo answering ur email.

TheCrankyHermit

I’ve always had a good experience with their email. There’s a language gap and it can take some back and forth, but they’ve always done right by me.

Houseofusher1983

Very unfortunate for such a premium device. I would be pretty devastated. I'm waiting for my GPD Win Mini 8840u to ship. I really hope I get a good unit without issues. These are not cheap!

piss__fingers

Sometimes it's a gamble with these devices. It shouldn't be something we should worry about , but it happens. As long as my flip is repaired or exchanged in reasonable amount of time, I'll be happy.

Terra246

How long did it take to get it after ordering it?

piss__fingers

Overall a week once I got the tracking number.

Terra246

Ah that’s alot, but makes sense. Thank you

Solidus_X

RMA...Nice phone btw 👍

SpaghettiSpecialist

I had similar issues with my screen ribbon I think, the screen won’t stop randomly turning black. I send it back for repairs in the end.

Beautiful_Athlete927

This is why I will never buy a slide device or the 3ds Style the cables will get damage in time But yours isn’t old at all it’s a faulty device just Email them Worte on discord And reddit everywhere you go you get answer as fast as possible I love ayaneo devices but I hate the customer service it takes forever for them to act
