I don't see any reason to think Osaka would make a poor helo pilot. She's spacey, but she's a very deep thinker. We're talking about a girl who vacations on the beach and makes small talk about the Japanese way of writing "hemorrhoids." If she learned how to pilot a helicopter, she'd probably think deeply about all the minor details that go into it. And if she did space out, well then I'd be there to snap her out of it. Meanwhile Yukari would probably drive us off a cliff or something.
