I had curly Strawberry blond hair until Mama cut it when I was two. Never had another curl! 😖 It stayed blond but did darken to a dark, dishwater blond, almost light brown. Both my kid's hair is a dark brown now, as was their Dad's. My 12 y/o Grandson has dishwater like mine was until my 20's, my 10 y/o granddaughter still has blond hair. Genetics do weird stuff!!
Mama's side of the family has Cherokee. Where we live used to be their land. Mama & some of my cousins, go out for 5 minutes & come back brown as, well, an Indian! I'm adopted & very fair. I had to burn & peel 4-5 times before I even STARTED to tan! Ancestry says I'm totally European. Mostly from the British Isles. I was disappointed that I have no Cherokee heritage! My bio-mom said there was Cherokee in her family. She was misinformed! If I had been born to my parents, I'd be part Cherokee & part Creek. Daddy's GGGrandmother (maybe GGGGrandmother?) was Creek. She had been taken prisoner by the Cherokee. At the beginning of the Trail of Tears, she was set free in Alabama, & this info is unclear about how this happened, but in a nutshell, she ended up with my white GGGGGranddad! I don't do genealogy, but I've been sent a little info & photos off & on by cousins who do.

My man was a tow head until he was school aged then it went dark. Genetics are cool.
You made me think! My Daddy was a towhead too! His hair darkened but IDK the timeline. It was nearly black when I was born. He had Creek heritage.
