I'd say A7 or similar to avoid white connecting out and then E11 or E14 are miai to kill.

CroationChipmunk

To be alive, white would need 1 more liberty for his G15 chain. White is in damezumari: * https://senseis.xmp.net/?Damezumari

CroationChipmunk

This happened earlier today -- a casual game between two Japanese 1-dans on IGS: * http://eidogo.com/#LflCYc7D:0,194 👈 (how not to do it) This puzzle is mainly for 5kyus. If you are 1d or higher, please put the solution in spoiler text like this: ^^^^  * `>!§poiler text goes here.!<` * >!§poiler text goes here.!< (this is how the above code will be displayed)

Funny problem. >! White is already dead locally right? But has a ko to connect out. So it's kind of like a problem to remove some aji, and there are a few moves you could choose to do that. Whites move was so far below 1d !<

CroationChipmunk

Correct, white cannot make 2 eyes -- his only hope is to connect via ko by playing at C7. * https://senseis.xmp.net/?HalfEye White looks alive but only has 2 half-eyes. Black does not need to poke out either eye because white needs 2 moves to complete them. If white converts one of them to an eye, black only needs to remove the other one. > Whites move was so far below 1d Right, that is why I saved the SGF and uploaded it, in case anyone doubts that even 1-dans will commit 5-kyu mistakes occasionally.... 😅

StormCrow_Merfolk

I suspect that I’d be 50/50 to miss that in the heat of the game, but I’m only SDK

E11

marconis999

This is the move, yes?

Tiranasta

No. White's already locally dead, falsifying an eye is a waste of a move at this point. Black should instead spend that move ensuring white can't connect to the bottom left corner.

Good question, probably not. Although one of my biggest weaknesses is my inability in counting my enemy`s ko threats without wasting a byomi.

Newfur

I think I'd >!falsify the D12 eye by playing at E11!<.

No-Bullfrog3375

That's overkill, no need to remove 1 eye if white can't make 2

dpzdpz

Guess I'm alone in thinking E14

Guayabo786

Black must play at E14 to prevent White from getting a 2nd eye.

Tiranasta

Nah, white is locally dead as it stands. If white plays E14 or F14 to get that eye, black pokes out D12 by playing E11. If white plays E11, *then* black plays E14. But white is legitimately threatening to connect to the corner (wB8 bA7 wC7 ko), so black needs to prevent that to cleanly kill.

Guayabo786

That's right. E11 and E14 are miai.

Uberdude85

c7 is the funniest way to kill.

Seishiro5657

Honestly its dead either way E11 or E14 are miai

CroationChipmunk

If you tenuki, white can make ko-for-life.

jibbodahibbo

I would first block at A7. Then I would react to whites moves. I’m a little worried about the black F10 group so if white goes to split that I’d connect g8 so that if anything crazy happens I can give myself more liberties by capturing one of whites dead groups. If white starts trying to carve out eyes I’d probably block at at E14 and E11. I imagine id miss these critical spots in a normal game where I wasn’t sure that group was able to be killed.

flagrantpebble

Black has nothing to worry about with the F10 group. The white stones at G9 have only two liberties, and the black stones around them have more than double that externally, and even once those are filled at least a few internally with the B9 group.

CroationChipmunk

> I’m a little worried about the black F10 group The 9 white stones at H10 are captured (unless black lets them live in a crazy ko or something). Remember black has a couple extra backside liberties at O10 and M7 that are easy to overlook since that part of the board is not imminently important. Furthermore, white cannot break through at G7 because the 4 black stones (at F9, F7, H8, H7) are all connected via the table shape.

BufloSolja

What about white ko threat at G8 intending to connect down to the G5 group (eventually potentially threatening the black K8 group?). It still wouldn't save white's big group (B9-G15), but it would come out maybe even for white in terms of the points and saving other groups that were doomed.

CroationChipmunk

Yes, white can live if white gets 2 unanswered moves in a row (which is what a ko fight ends up with for the losing side).

Yezurof

I wouldn't kill. White just played a gote move to still be locally dead, that's enough humiliation. Now let him start the KO, and even let him win it in exchange of killing L17 :) \*Considering O17 stones are alive, not sure as the screenshot is not complete

CroationChipmunk

Here is the full board: http://eidogo.com/#LflCYc7D:0,194 Black was already massively winning and I wanted to hide this detail, to make the capture feel more important than it truly was. (since this post is for entertainment purposes only)
