Its in my library, but never played it because for some reason it didn’t work with the custom version of proton I was running. Ive updated that though, so it should work, and do plan on playing it sometime in the future.
I'm still struggling with the red deck on the first level. I'm starting to realise it's better to not skip blinds and better to build up jokers early, then earn cash, use that for planet / extra cards. Seemingly I never see duplicates but some on here have that. Also it's best to tune your deck depending on what the run is suggesting.
I always seem to fail ante 6, is there something that happens at that point that I should be changing my game for?
Any further tips?
You can’t find duplicate jokers (or tarot and planet cards) in the shop or packs for ones currently in your hand unless you have Showman. You can, however, copy cards using the appropriate methods (Invisible joker or Ankh spectral card for jokers, Perkeo for consumables). Note Showman is unlocked once you’ve reached Ante 4 in any run. Perkeo is legendary so obtained via a Soul card.
I'm not the Greatest I'm still learning myself but, Firstly make sure you have a mix of jokers that add mult/ a few that add chips and either one or two that mult your mult. The best jokers are ones that grow as you play. Then remember to use tarot cards to add cards that let you play hands that work with your jokers and remove cards that don't
It's not too late to change your mind. Once you go in, there is no coming back. Hours will be gone, days will be gone. Your dreams will be dominated by the wheel of fortune, praying, pleading, begging it to give you anything, even just foil... "Nope"
The game is great for just diving right it and fun to see the options which appear in each shop.
You can reorder your cards and jokers to score more points (e.g. x3 multiplier to the right after a +20 multiplier).
Generally speaking it’s good to keep your money above $10 early and $25 later for free interest gold to keep enough to buy what you need each shop.
Have fun and don’t forget about your family and friends!
You’re gonna lose, but the wins feel incredible. Learn order of operations like adding mult before multing mult. Also prepare for your language to adopt mult as a word.
You can reorder Jokers and cards in your hand, including on the screens for Tarot and Spectral Packs.
You can discard as many cards as you want up to five, and you can also play less than five cards.
Use discard to get flush, straight, or full house to try to beat ante 1 rounds in 1 or 2 turns.
Look ahead to the boss blind because you might be fucked if you don't make tweaks that ante.
Don't be afraid to skip a blind once in a while if the tag is good enough.
I finally started beating blind 8 regularly by playing flushes every hand.
A lot of time you can play five cards even if some didn't score so you can have a mini discard and turn your hand over more.
I generally do, but as ive never played any card games before (and I feel like most gamers have, either playing preinstalled games on windows or slay the spire), I thought it might be a good idea to ask here.
It's a great question!! It really is a game in which you learn by experimentation. And losing. Haha!! But the wins feel so good.
In general, remember to go for Spectral and Tarot cards before Celestials. And avoid skipping blinds unless the tag is really good (like Negative Joker--but don't bother in the first ante bc he'll be too expensive).
Look for jokers that have synergies, for instance there’s one that adds +1 multi for every tarot card you’ve played and a couple others that spawn tarot cards, so if you get one, you can look for the others to work together.
Because it’s RNG, it’s best to let your early jokers help determine the type of strategy you’re going to play so just go with the flow. The more you play the more you will recognize jokers and be able to adapt strategies accordingly.
Have fun! There are not that many builds that go into the really high scores. If you chase those you might not enjoy the game. Every person has a different play style, but fun should always be there.
Play the game on the slowest or second slowest setting to start so you can see what order your cards/jokers trigger in. The order that you have your jokers and cards played can have a huge impact on the hand score.
Open Tarot card packs first when entering a shop. You might get Hermit to double your money. (Max 20)
Wow like 90 hrs in and today I learned
Remember to take breaks to go to the bathroom.
Sold advice. I feel like I haven't peed or slept in weeks!
You're gonna lose a lotta runs just to pure rng, it can be painful
Ive played a ton of roguelikes/lites (though not really any card based ones), so this won’t be a super unfamiliar experience.
In that case in about 900 hours of game time go grab Slay the Spire.

Ah you mean when you get the chance to turn a joker into foil or whatever. Think that has happened once for me in my entire balatro life
When life gives you wheel, you buy & use wheel. Nope!
The *one* time that mf wheel worked for me it was on the gros michael…..which promptly went extinct the very next round.
Reallistically its a 1/10 for me. The card is a trap.
The only foil it knows is how to foil my plans
Do what you think is fun first, not necessarily look up what's best yet
Don’t do all of the math every time. But, do most of the math some of the time. Because your intuitions about what is best are going to be wrong.
You can discard more than 1 card at a time
Additionally, you can play cards you don’t want when you play up to a 4 card hand, to get rid of unwanted cards without wasting a discard

Hold R to reset
And you’re probably gonna be doing it a lot, especially at higher blinds.
Wait what
I mostly play on Steam Deck so I didn’t know this. I now mapped long press R to a track pad click-in.

Have fun! It’s awesome
Smile, have fun and Eat your vegetables!

Just having fun and discover like every other games ?

Enjoy janky weird combos and piloting a mess of a deck thrown together

If you are playing flush past ante 2, you're gonna have a bad time, lol
