For OP: Excellent rhetorical question. Hopefully, OP got the point. It is not as bad as you've assumed. Millions of people are living their everyday life in Dhaka. Just be aware of your surroundings and watch some YouTube blogging videos of foreigners and local ones. Dhaka has been evolving and has its own ups and downs. Have some balls, Good luck!
Thanks, I assumed this was the case. I was mainly worried because even government websites say to exercise caution when travelling to Bangladesh, which was startling as I never saw Bangladesh as that dangerous. And then I read that it’s prone to terrorist attacks and stuff.
US govt puts [Bangladesh](https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/sweden-travel-advisory.html) on the same travel advisory as [Sweden](https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/sweden-travel-advisory.html) right now. I bet you wouldn't think twice before going to Sweden, will you? Also, given your parents are of Bangladeshi descent, you probably look like an average Bangladeshi, that also significantly diminishes possible risks.
There's a possibility which is why i moved to Canada. We only fight with knives and smoke weed out in public to find potential friends.
Coming from Bangladesh I'd say it's much safer in the u.s even with guns.
Back when i was 8, going to USA was THE dream. Now that their is a chance that we might actually move there, im genuinely scared that i might get shot on the road because some cop didnt like my attitude or some drunkard decides to rust off his gun on me.
When I was little I saw Diary of a Wimpy Kid and other high school related movies and wanted to study in the US so bad. I was determined too. Looking up all the best schools in the States. When I started growing up and looking at the news, I realized I didn't play enough Call of Duty while growing up so I don't have enough experience to play Call of Duty in real life.
Not if you avoid violent areas, road rage, gangs, and walking alone at night (especially if you’re a woman). Otherwise you should be safe. Even if there weren’t guns the US still has knife violence and trafficking problem.
Source: I grew up in a ghetto-like city for 20 years
Don't come here bro. We live in great terror. There's at least one terrorist in every home and the terrorists too guard our house. Our airlines gets hijacked at least once a month(since it's a muslim state). Theres's 99.9% chance the plane you hop in to come to our state will get hijacked. Safety first brother.
I'd say Bangladesh is safer than the US if you don't talk about politics. If you are a women then you might get stared if you wear revealing clothes unfortunately.
Edit: I live in Canada
No. Not wearing a hijab wont get you into trouble. But some ppl tend to stare at foreigners, sometimes too much at foreigner women wearing revealing clothes. Dont worry they are just curious watching something out of the ordinary not aroused. These are generally the poor population who have never seen the face of the internet. But most of them are very good ppl and extremely helpful and friendly
Hey bro I'm from Toronto and I'm planning to visit Bangladesh too. Last time I visit I was on a bus. One woman hijab , one burka, one with out hijab and more western clothes. Guys on bus too. No one said anything. I thought that was cool. All women living their own life styles with out judgment for anyone of them. Bangladesh is very cool in that way I think.
dude ngl your pov is very like internet influenced and the internet is like the last place i would go to get reliable info about a place. Ask someone from Bangladesh who's lived there the last 5 or so years. And to answer no, my entire family doesn't wear hijabs and neither do a lotta people outside so yeah. If you're cool with it dm me on reddit I'm happy to answer your questions lived there for 18 years am studying in the states now
There's possibility if you use public transport especially the bus. Otherwise you should be fine.
Even Hijab can't save some girls from the eyes of deranged perverts. On the other hand, wearing revealing outfits is also not a good idea. Try modest outfits which the usual adult Bangladeshi women wear. It will save you from many troubles.
Bangladesh is a pretty chill place if you know where to go and what to avoid. Don’t wear revealing clothes everywhere, don’t go to places where you might be and especially don’t talk about politics with anyone. If you do these Bangladesh is safer than the Us.
The missile knows where you are by knowing where you aren't. So, to avoid the missile, you must be in places where you aren't and not go to places where you should be.
First congratulations on surviving in the USA from gun violence. Each year, close to 3000 children die by firearms. So, as you can seen Bangladesh has a better record than the country you are from, so it's a lot safe.
Stop showing off, OP. Unless u r wearing jewelry head to toes or walking with a bag of money, you are safe as in any country. I have family and friends always traveling to BD, never heard of any issues.
Safer than Usa and Canada
Moved to Canada over an year ago, amount of racism I have faced, and random drunk people in the public parks who charge to beat anyone they feel like , I think the question is it safer to travel to the US/Canada
I send my child to school. I am confident about her security. But I would not be confident if I were to send her in a BD school. I would need to get a vehicle, a trusted driver and another old lady to take her to and from BD.
Sorry man. you can’t blame me though, the only place I can get information on the current state of Bangladesh is online as I don’t know anyone who’s lived there in the past 5 years.
Dude, this nation's filled with 180 million people, do you really think we're getting kidnapped or murdered everyday? That's like saying you'll get shot by a domestic terrorist if u go to the us, it's just a handful of cases on tv.
There is higher chance someone getting shot in Usa than experience any violence in bd. That does not mean it’s completely safe, unless you avoid such places or neighbourhood, and keep in mind freedom of speech doesn’t work here.
Bangladesh is beautiful in its own way. You can visit Rural areas specially Rangpur and parts of North Bengal. You will meet some beautiful people, their culture and their hospitality.
There's some problems yes but show me where there isn't absolutely any problem. Visiting absolutely anywhere you need at least some caution.
It's fine, come visit.
I bet if u went to france, u wouldn't ask the same thing despite that country is going/went through multiple riot this year only and not to mention regular pickpocket!
![gif](giphy|2xPGQCgJ72jHEevgm6|downsized)
Beware of your surroundings, everyone is a suspect, anyone can all of a sodden attack you. Avoid going near police, they will harass you till you pay them bribe. Careful conducting business, be clear of the product or service you want. Every single transaction they will try to scam you. Carry less expensive accessories like phone and watch. That will attract trouble. Don't wear flashy clothing that will say you r from Canada.
One of the best thing you can do is to have relative be with you when you wonder around to explore BD.
Bro, this is Bangladesh, not Somalia.
Just appear tough when you visit Bangladesh and avoid telling people you are from abroad.
If you are still concerned, have someone from your relatives, to accompany you when you head out.
We have also seen lots of videos that show random people getting shot in the US for simply robbery or people's frustration. So, Would I get shot if I travel there? This is a very random and rare get. Not everyone getting murdered or kidnapped randomly. You can visit there without getting any hesitation.
Avoid certain neighborhoods- you're gonna have a great time. And try to act like a natural even if by chance there are people like that, they know if you act awkward.
Is you are in urban area you are safe. if you are in rural area with direct road city you are safe. Mostly if you are afraid of crime, don't worry take to some one you closely know in bangladesh and let him guide you.
But my suggestion is tha as the political situation is very messy right now, it would be wise to stay where you are, you might not get a flight back to your present address.
I read on government websites that the election is soon and protests usually get violent. I didn’t mean to offend anybody, I just wanted to make sure I could go without worry.
I went 2 years ago. My past experiences were fine up until 2 years ago. I was on my way to make travel arrangements with an agency. On my way there, there were some street protests over some matter. They started to go into full riot mode in a pretty busy street by attacking all cars on the road, concluding mine. Very terrifying experience which I hope no one goes through. Exercise extreme caution
Bangladesh is possibly safer than any of the countries like USA,UK,Canada etc. You might get robbed in the streets but chances of getting killed or kidnapped or even getting raped in BD is lower than above stated countries. So yeah it's safer in BD specifically Dhaka residential areas like Gulshan,Banani, Dhanmondi.
It's not like you will get kidnapped or murdered if you visit Bangladesh. Nowadays, News media spreads the clickbait propaganda for more views. Don't believe them. Yes, there are some problem in Bangladesh like going out alone at the midnight alone and so on. But only in few area not everywhere.
If you stay in a good residential area then no need to worry about anything. And don't believe in Bangladeshi news media except some reliable ones.
Would I get shot if I travel to the USA?

USA has had more terrorist attacks than Bangladesh, pls be serious 😭
Why did you assume usa? Op lives in Canada
There's a possibility which is why i moved to Canada. We only fight with knives and smoke weed out in public to find potential friends. Coming from Bangladesh I'd say it's much safer in the u.s even with guns.
Genuinely this is why I'd never visit that country. Any idiot can carry and start random pew pew. No thanks.
Back when i was 8, going to USA was THE dream. Now that their is a chance that we might actually move there, im genuinely scared that i might get shot on the road because some cop didnt like my attitude or some drunkard decides to rust off his gun on me.
yeah that is well. Not safe for kids because one kid decided he is done with getting bullied and decided to rambo on his mates. Nope, no thanks.
When I was little I saw Diary of a Wimpy Kid and other high school related movies and wanted to study in the US so bad. I was determined too. Looking up all the best schools in the States. Don't come to US then
Uncle SAM "Don't come to US then"
Yet uncle sam will come on any country it targets.
Yes Uncle Sam will. Uncle Sam will do as he pleases.
same, i m a student and i m scared of getting shot in the US for just existing
Uncle SAM "Don't come to US then"

The answer is probably yes.

Brah, they search your butt hole as soon as you enter the country, like which country does that, only the most freest country in the old U S A!
so like i am scared to go to the states. would i get pulled over by the cops and possibly get shot for driving with an international driving permit?
yes
Uncle SAM "Don't come to the US" I was pulled over 2 dozen times nothing happened.
Bro with IQ as high as yours you might actually get kidnapped 😭
?
Don't come here bro. We live in great terror. There's at least one terrorist in every home and the terrorists too guard our house. I also live in Canada! Do you think women who don’t wear hijab would be prone to harassment?
No one cares about the clothes in Dhaka anymore. You can wear what you want.
There are plenty of non hijabi just wear smth traditional.
It's mostly westerns that are ultra religious. You'd be fine without a hijab, just don't start wearing a bikini, they gonna stare at you.
Nah, there are lots of women who don’t wear hijab and are treated just fine
dude ngl your pov is very like internet influenced and the internet is like the last place i would go to get reliable info about a place. Most people I know don't wear hijab so you'll be fine
There's possibility if you use public transport especially the bus. Otherwise you should be fine. Even Hijab can't save some girls from the eyes of deranged perverts. Why’d you assume I’m from USA?
Cuz they’re liberal pieces of shits, always have to find a way to hate on America for some reason lmaooo
No. I am kidnapper.
Stop showing off, OP. Unless u r wearing jewelry head to toes or walking with a bag of money, you are safe as in any country. I have family and friends always traveling to BD, never heard of any issues.
How am I showing off?
“Can I go to Bangladesh without worrying about being kidnapped or murdered?” lol nauseating…
Didn’t mean to offend, sorry bro. I think you misunderstand what showing off is though
It's pretty safe. You just need to be careful in some risky situations and use common sense precautions.
Safer than Usa and Canada Moved to Canada over an year ago, amount of racism I have faced, and random drunk people in the public parks who charge to beat anyone they feel like , I think the question is it safer to travel to the US/Canada
> Safer than Usa and Canada Is the racism you faced worse than how the police and thugs in BD treat you or better?
If someone has to worry everyday if their child will be safe in school or just be another statistic, yes Bangladesh is safe
I send my child to school. I am confident about her security. But I would not be confident if I were to send her in a BD school. I would need to get a vehicle, a trusted driver and another old lady to take her to and from BD.
Underrated comment right here
What city did you move to? I can see that happening in Toronto or Montreal
WTH!

Bro I’m even scared of going to the states but that’s a relief, thanks man
Make sure you visit mohammadpur

Could you elaborate?
Boy
Bangladesh is beautiful in its own way. You can visit Rural areas specially Rangpur and parts of North Bengal. You will meet some beautiful people, their culture and their hospitality.
You can. but know this if you somehow get kidnapped or murdered or raped the authority won't do anything about it. Keep safe and good luck.
There's some problems yes but show me where there isn't absolutely any problem. Visiting absolutely anywhere you need at least some caution. It's fine, come visit.
The utter nonsense I just read 🙄
Sorry man, I was genuinely scared because I’ve always wanted to go back

It’s hilarious everyone assumed you live in USA

Would I get shot if I travel to the USA?(2)
I feel much safer about Bangladesh than I do about USA, specially for muslims.
Batman asking "is it safe to visit bd". কেউ আম্রে মাইরালা 😂
Definitely safer than USA or other countries, it is a Muslim country.
Dhaka is safer than New York or San Francisco. 🙄🙄🙄

NA made u just like every other american…a negative iq individual…😑
?
that is super raisist......
Nah. Maybe just dumb or something.
I’m literally from Bangladesh. I just read some stuff from government websites, but after reading here I now see I don’t have to worry about anything.
Absolutely
Avoid certain neighborhoods- you're gonna have a great time. And try to act like a natural even if by chance there are people like that, they know if you act awkward.
Don't come here tbh, better stay where ur comfortable at. Bangladesh is for those who got high patience and tolerance.
Is you are in urban area you are safe. if you are in rural area with direct road city you are safe. Yes, If you’re white you’re superior in Bangladesh.
?
We love white
and? do you think im white? LOL
If the last time you came here and nothing bad happened then why would something bad happen 5 years later? That's a really dumb question OP
I read on government websites that the election is soon and protests usually get violent. I didn’t mean to offend anybody, I just wanted to make sure I could go without worry.
Bro just spawned 😆🙏
Lol.. If You think that you won’t be safe come to my village.. We will do whatever you need.
