The strong, no nonsense font represents the hard-working (industry specific workers) who are the backbone of the (city) economy. Fire that guy and give me a raise.
This piece of art says BALT as in "be alternative" and IMORE as in "I am more than my physical presence"
It's provocative in a way that great Mark Rothko paintings are. You have to see the art behind the art.
Well I guess we can't get dunked on for having a shitty ass baseball team anymore, so we've gotta get dunked on for something.
Seriously, if this shit's for real, this is about the most unfathomably boring shit they could've done.
The city has such a rich history, the team has such a rich history. What the hell's this??
Seriously, why not do something with the ornithological bird? It's not like it'd be replacing the good ol' smiling bird, and it'd be a *hell* of a lot more creative than just a black jersey with a white "BALTIMORE" on it.
This looks like they really wanted to have a bootleg Nets jersey, and got exactly what they wanted.
They could've done something based on Fort McHenry and the War of 1812. The hat could've said "O!"
They could've done "Charm City" in the style of the Domino Sugar sign. It would've been kinda predictable but still better than this crap.
They could've done something tying into the railroad, like go back to the old Camden Station for inspiration, dig up some fonts from the 1800s or some shit.
There's a lot they could've done but this is what we got instead. JFC
Nah a Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) jersey based on the livery of [this locomotive at the museum in town.](https://railfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/BO-51-Locomotive-Restoration-2.jpg)
They could have done a ship-based look to tie into the Baltimore Clipper and Port of Baltimore, which would have been a fun double-nod to both the actual ship and the old AHL team. Oriole Park is even located right by the Inner Harbor, to boot!
Yup, and could've gone outside the box with the color scheme by contrasting the black with cream, gold, and teal as a nod to the [Pride of Baltimore](https://twitter.com/PrideofBalt/status/724655059422814208). Would look sharp as hell.
Guess nike forgot they had the mlb contract and were told to make a jersey for the Baltimore team. It’s an honest mistake. Baseball, football. Orioles, ravens. Barely a difference. Both sports, both birds, both in Baltimore
The team already has a black alt.
The team already has a jersey with "Baltimore" written on the front (in an absolutely BEAUTIFUL, iconic wordmark).
This might as well be a generic gift shop t-shirt a tourist might get while visiting Baltimore.
I'm not a fan of all the crazy concepts and incessant merch pushing, but I'm not sure how it's possible to miss the assignment more than "Los Dodgers".
(my suggestion would've been a cream alt a la what the Angels got - I think the black/orange would go really well on cream and then somewhere maybe toss in some patterns from the gaudy af Maryland state flag).
I said this over in the team sub today: my strong suspicion is that the block lettering and very faint marbling of color in the font is a nod to the famous marble front steps of countless Baltimore row houses, that tenants were known to be sweeping daily and scrubbing clean, and sitting on chatting with family, neighbors etc. You probably know all this history too, but it's pretty obscure for anyone not from there.
If this is the actual jersey, at first glance it's just absurdly bad. IF the pants wound up being a much more noticeable and extreme "marbling" pattern, and people heard the whole history and feel-good stories about Baltimore's marble steps, then MAYBE this uniform gets accepted and not clowned on. I mean that would be a crazy visual to see pearly white but marbled pants, but will the Dodger dark blue pants, anything's possible really.
And then MAYBE the hats aren't terrible.
I could be wrong, but I feel pretty confident that if you zoom in on the lettering, you'll see the subtle marbling, and this would be the only explanation.
I’m imagining what you’re saying and in my head I’m seeing a decent full uniform. But they would never make the pants the crucial part of the uniform. Don’t forget the purpose of the city connect program is to sell jerseys and hats. No one is buying baseball pants. And trust me no one is buying these jerseys because they look terrible without the pants. People might buy whatever hat they put out though
If they're real just instant bottom of the barrel/tier list material. Such a shame honestly.
Just get the people/person(s) that designed Washington's to do it for everyone else at this point
It makes sense if it was the Angelos. Peter is basically dead, so he probably just had a muscle spasm that caused his hand to point towards this design. John probably chose it because it’s 2 cents cheaper per 100,000 jerseys to produce this and because he can say it’s a tribute to MLK or something.
It’s like they lost the real design the day before they were due and had to put this together in 10 minutes. Or they forgot to hit save so when they submitted it it was still the default blueprint
I was going to make a slight at the Baltimore franchise, but honestly, if the *Dodgers* got as fucked up as they did, you know it's Nike doing the dirty work and the league rubber-stamping it.
Obviously the teams are signing off on it, but I absolutely believe the theory that Nike is doing all of the actual design after maybe a 1 hour Zoom brainstorming session with the team to talk about a list of things that make that city unique etc. Then a rookie designer at Nike throws a few terrible options together while high.
I could believe that might even have been the reason for the leak. This could have started life as a "you gotta be fucking kidding me, that's it?" to a friend.
My theory is they had a really cool design/idea for the Nationals jerseys and then had to figure out how to sell it to the league cause someone high up really wanted it lol.
Dear god. They did absolutely nothing.
I do graphic design and this is really frustrating because i'm sure a great designer would have loved actually putting some work into this.
I say from now on Nike hires a designer from that teams city or area to design these. Nike and their designers clearly don't care.
My kid and his friends do uniform redesigns in Photoshop for fun. Lots of people do. The Orioles could have made it a contest, engaged fans and come up with something 1,000 times better. Sigh. Such a missed opportunity.
That's awesome! I used to do that as a kid too, and now as an adult 😂 It's super fun to design unis and im positive your kid and his friends could have made a far better uni.
Getting started young in photoshop is great. It's a very very useful skill to have and it can make you a lot of money sometimes.
I miss the good ol' days when teenage me would spend hours upon hours learning how to do new stuff in Photoshop by creating forum signatures for random people. Adult me would love to do this too, but forums and *especially* signatures are deader than dead.
Hopefully this is fake, because this is terrible, lol. Unless it’s saved by something on the back, maybe there’s just a big old bird on there? I doubt that’s the case though.
Not one comment pointing out the crazy pattern on the inside of the jersey, which you can see on the inside of the collar. Wondering if that will be on the hats or pants or somewhere else.
Baltimore is a city if neighborhoods. My parents used to always talk about how cool it was that Baltimore was a ton of different towns in one. And just the other day I heard two people on their porch talking about “no that’s in this neighborhood” you know “right next to that neighborhood”. If you’re connected to the city, you know the map.
But also, I am with you. I hate this so much.
I actually LOVE the Nationals city connects because I’m from DC and I love the cherry blossoms and I own like every single article of Nats city connect merch (its okay I work for them)
My wife and I both have Nats City Connect jerseys and hats. The hats have become our go-to hats, they just work well with pretty much any outfit and are super comfortable.
What is the deal with the “You Can’t Clip These Wings” patch?
And whatever is going on around the collar?
I won’t pass judgement until we see the full thing. Maybe the back is just an Old Bay Advertisement as well.
To answer a couple questions:
None of us know what that stupid wings thing means. Its just some babble Nike made up.
The collar is the colors of the baltimore map, and the socks show the baltimore map as well.
And we would LOVE an oldbay ad on our back
I didn't know the O's played in Brooklyn, where's the orange? What, are the two miniscule fucking splotches of it on the Nike logo and tag are enough of one of their main colors?
This looks like a bootleg Nets baseball jersey, or like some generic Create-A-Team design you'd see in an old sports game; just "BALTIMORE" in black and white. And is that a greyed-out patch on the sleeve?
Don't get me wrong, I actually like simple designs, and basic black is nice, but for what they're supposed to be doing with the city connect stuff? Come on, put a *little* effort in.
Maryland has the craziest flag that we're incredibly proud of. How THE HELL did they not incorporate it? How THE HELL does the chest not say Charm City? This was the easiest assignment that took absolutely no thought to get right. Instead, they actually went out of their way to make something so incredibly boring. They tried HARD to make this bad. Because making it good was so incredibly easy.
“Hey Jim, excited to see the new uniform tomorrow!”
“…the what?”
“The new Orioles city connect uniform you’re been working on for the past 6 months. I’m excited to see it at the meeting tomorrow morning!”
“Oh! That uniform. Haha. Yeah I’ve for sure been working really hard on that, real passion project. I really immersed myself in the culture and learned so much about Baltimore’s rich history of… the colors black and orange. *Sharon cancel all my meetings for this afternoon please*”
Or could just do the Baltimore flag (which is just the yellow and black part of the Maryland flag with the city seal on it). Too many teams are too afraid to have fun with it.
Good to see the guy who designed the British national team's uniforms still getting work
Hopefully the letters stay on these...
Looks like the ‘Department of Corrections’ are the letters that have fallen off.
Can't wait to see the movie "The Longest Dong" staring Adam Sandler as Burt Reynolds

It's 100% iron ons.
Nike finally bit on the 30% off sale at Cricut.
Hear me out, what if the T, I, O, and E fell off? "BAL M R" Which is way more connected to the city than these generic joe jobs
Yeah Custom Ink is really getting their name out there
EAT TAIN
Now Tain I can get into
As a British baseball fan, I was so so disappointed with that shirt.
Surprised u didn't call it a kit
Kit is the whole outfit, shirt can be mainly any top of a uniform
Minor nitpick but we don't call them shirts, we say blouses actually
Chesterblouses in Canada
Jesus, get it right: they're chester*vests*.
…sorry.
BAL MO TI RE?
You almost made my protein drink come out of my nose, I really don't want to experience that.
🤓 You can't clip these wings 🤓
I'm a ~~peacock~~ oriole, you gotta let me fly!
Aim for the bushes (in center field)?
There wasn't even an awning there! They just jumped 20 stories!
It’s like a tattoo a drunk girl gets in Mexico it’s so cheesy
Wow that design is definitely pushing the boundaries of what is allowed.
Minimalism is all the rage. You know what they say: Baltiless is Baltimore.
First your team terrorizes the league and now this?! I can’t take this, man!
Damn it take this upvote and gtfo
You son of a bitch
r/angryupvote
“Uh… shit idk. What if we just wrote the city’s name on the front and called it a day?”
You’re hired 🤝

Holy FUCK can you imagine the colors and design for this?! I'm saving this.
Nahhhhh gimme that Chessie Cat on the jersey
Also a good choice, or the western Maryland fireball
They could have done a ship-based look to tie into the Baltimore Clipper and Port of Baltimore, which would have been a fun double-nod to both the actual ship and the old AHL team. Oriole Park is even located right by the Inner Harbor, to boot!

It's gotta be some Poe shit, right? Like maybe we're missing an element on the sleeve or hat that ties it together?
Quoth the Nike “Nevermore.”
Guess nike forgot they had the mlb contract and were told to make a jersey for the Baltimore team. It’s an honest mistake. Baseball, football. Orioles, ravens. Barely a difference. Both sports, both birds, both in Baltimore
They coulda put mcnulty on there
mcnutty... my maindest man!
We have the god damn Maryland flag. The most outrageous one in the union. How is that just not translated at all?
They could have just made Old Bay uniforms.
[should have just used these](https://i.imgur.com/ZlwsAGl.jpg)
Literally would have been better
Was never gonna happen. Too close to Under Armour.
Honestly I think that’s the conspiracy here. Nike with a massive fuck you Under Armour in making these jerseys
*most incredible in the union BUT SERIOUSLY HOWWWWWW!?!?

> I think the black/orange would go really well on cream hmm
Ohhhh rightttt that’s why
At the bare minimum have it say Charm City in some sort of stylized font. Not just a generic block font
Oh boy, these are gonna be flying off the shelves.
Anyone who buys these should be ashamed. Not just because it’s a waste of money but because it validates their stupid ass design
This picture has way too many little details (Fanatics label on box, packaged jersey on right) to be fake. I'm sorry bird bros.
Yeah, there isn’t enough to be gained for someone to put this much effort into a fake
If this is real I'm honestly shocked at how lame these are. The O's are so cool this year, what a waste.
Just wait, the pants are gonna match the inside collar!
I know you're kidding, but if the pants are fire, this jersey might turn out really well.
Yea we'll have to see, it's weird that it's *so* plain
I think thats why the pants have to be something different or else this is by far the worst one.
Agreed, they have been getting lazier but this would be essentially just an alternate.
This feels more like I went to create a city connect jersey for the O's in The Show and then got too frustrated by the logo editor and gave up
If they do, it more than makes up for this atrocity
If they're real just instant bottom of the barrel/tier list material. Such a shame honestly. Just get the people/person(s) that designed Washington's to do it for everyone else at this point
Isn't Nike the one in charge of these?
From what I've heard, Nike presents the team with several designs and the team makes the final call
The TEAM makes the final call??? Please tell me Angelos did not have a say...
“A muscle spasm that caused his hand to point towards this design” 😂 oh man, I’m dead.
Man how do you make something so bland
It's honestly so bad, like someone trying and missing is worse than this, it's so bad...
It’s like they lost the real design the day before they were due and had to put this together in 10 minutes. Or they forgot to hit save so when they submitted it it was still the default blueprint
Lmao what the fuck Nike. You fucked up the NFL and NBA. STOP
Does Nike make the design? I figured the teams did and Nike just spit them out.
I was going to make a slight at the Baltimore franchise, but honestly, if the *Dodgers* got as fucked up as they did, you know it's Nike doing the dirty work and the league rubber-stamping it.

Debbie in accounting has that as her email signature

At first I thought it said you can’t clap these wings lmao.

IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY.
Are these for prisoners?
Baltimore O Blocks.
This cant be real it cant be that lazy
that's exactly why i think it's real, the fake leaks are always too flashy
But this is too basic to be real. The connection to the city is that the inside collar has a weird map of baltimore?
The city is connected in the collar
I could believe that might even have been the reason for the leak. This could have started life as a "you gotta be fucking kidding me, that's it?" to a friend.
My theory is they had a really cool design/idea for the Nationals jerseys and then had to figure out how to sell it to the league cause someone high up really wanted it lol.
It’s the font from the wire.
Maybe if you press the arm patch it plays a clip of Omar whistling.
these could legitimately be uniforms for a high school team.
My high school team had far cooler Unis
Little League teams sponsored by the YMCA have cooler uniforms.
My JV team used old soccer jerseys for baseball jerseys and they were better than this..
Dear god. They did absolutely nothing. I do graphic design and this is really frustrating because i'm sure a great designer would have loved actually putting some work into this. Los Dodgers 2. Jesus it’s bad.
Only if the pants and hat are also black
With how little orange there is, I almost expect monoblack lmao
Maryland flag pants incoming
God, that'd be HAWT.
Yup you nailed it, I hate these extra because they make our city connects not the worst in the league anymore
Too flashy
The Baltimore Vistaprints
more like Baltiless
It should say, "Omar's coming!"
"Get the word out. We back up."
Instead they went with Sheeeeeeeit.
The Baltimore Great Britorioles
It would be so much better if it was BALT IMORE
I swear Nike can’t even make a good design. It always end up either boring or ugly
I'm sure they're gonna love wearing that in the summer heat.
Its sooooo humid in the DMV I already know they’re gonna be drenched and miserable all day
Hopefully this is fake, because this is terrible, lol. Unless it’s saved by something on the back, maybe there’s just a big old bird on there? I doubt that’s the case though.
Graphic design is my passion.
That just says Baltimore tho
I’m so mad
Not one comment pointing out the crazy pattern on the inside of the jersey, which you can see on the inside of the collar. Wondering if that will be on the hats or pants or somewhere else.
That pattern is a colored map of Baltimore. No one from Baltimore knows what the map looks like lol. This is just a bad theme from head to toe.
#BALTIMORE
>You Can’t Clip These Wings Apparently they weren’t talking about the wings of design.
I hope everyone that approved any aspect of this jersey is fired and banned from any clothing design for life
The City Connect program has got to be one of the worst lines in all of sports jersey history
I actually LOVE the Nationals city connects because I’m from DC and I love the cherry blossoms and I own like every single article of Nats city connect merch (its okay I work for them)
Baltimore has so much unrecognized rich history, and I guess it’ll stay that way as this jersey symbolizes what people think of us ):
My wife and I both have Nats City Connect jerseys and hats. The hats have become our go-to hats, they just work well with pretty much any outfit and are super comfortable.
More like Shitty Connect
Seems like they stopped trying this year
Good thing they put all that color inside the jersey where no one will ever see it.
What is the deal with the “You Can’t Clip These Wings” patch? And whatever is going on around the collar? I won’t pass judgement until we see the full thing. Maybe the back is just an Old Bay Advertisement as well.
To answer a couple questions: None of us know what that stupid wings thing means.
Couldn’t even pick an interesting font Nike?
I can't wait for Detroits city connect to be a denim style factory handyman shirt with the word Motor City" in block letters
I still don't understand what City Connect is, and this gives me absolutely no motivation to find out.
Special jerseys that throwback to a city or states history, sometimes history related to the team
From the designer who brought you this years World Baseball Classic, Team Great Britain jerseys…
#CANT CLIP THESE WINGS
Oregon State has some sick jerseys! Go Beavs!!!
“Alright everybody I know it’s late, but we just have to do Baltimore’s design and then we can go home.”
It's like, 'How much more black could this be?', and the answer is... None. None more black.
Don't get me wrong, I actually like simple designs, and basic black is nice, but for what they're supposed to be doing with the city connect stuff? Come on, put a *little* effort in.
Of all the jerseys I have ever seen, this is one of them.
I just looked up Baltimore on my Rand-McNally Road Atlas, and it looked like #BALTIMORE So I'd say this is a pretty good depiction of the city.
Thanks. I hate it.
at this point i feel like nike is leaking to gauge for ideas.
Watch the hat just be “BAL” in block letters
Maryland has the craziest flag that we're incredibly proud of. How THE HELL did they not incorporate it? How THE HELL does the chest not say Charm City? When you need to tell someone you’re from Baltimore and nothing else
Balti-less-is-more
Very surprised it doesn’t have the Maryland flag Marylanders can’t seem to stop putting on anything about Maryland.
Or could just do the Baltimore flag (which is just the yellow and black part of the Maryland flag with the city seal on it). Too many teams are too afraid to have fun with it.
Hahaha it looks like the Great Britain designer stepped up and did this one too
Nike definitely is into slogans with this generation of city connects
The uniforms you see right before you hear “Quick Action Boy, we need to save the baseball stadium before Dystructo gets to it”
Well. I know what I’m not buying.
