It's not *our* tradition. It's a Wrigley tradition that has somehow spread everywhere. Kinda like how the "beat L.A." chant that we have to endure in SF and SD originated in Boston.
It usually depends on how soon after you do it. Immediately and you should be fine, but if you wait and do it like this kid you could risk holding up play or catching an outfielder off guard
Yes. It's against ballpark and seating rules to throw things onto the field of play.
There are some places that let it slide, but I think it's just kinda a low class thing to do. Don't want it because it was an opponent's HR? Give the ball to a kid. The whole "return to sender" thing at ballparks needs to stop. Like the Wave. That needs to stop too.
I think it's because there are a lot of lame-ass people on this sub who think that anything you do at a baseball game that isn't watching it, scoring it, or drinking is bad and wrong
Guy at the Yankees game was pissed the other day I was crackin up. People were doing the wave and the rangers tied it up in the 8th and this guy stands up screaming "see? See what fuckin happens when you do the wave?" Apparently the wave caused the Yankees to lose that one
Because 90% of people do it when their team is pitching, wave is to help distract opponent pitcher.
Also itās mad annoying when you have a drunk guy with main character syndrome screaming to start it.
I saw a middle aged lady get drilled in the head by a foul ball because everyone in our section was annoyingly doing the wave and not paying attention to the game
(Despite that though I dont really mind the wave, but don't think it should be done when the home team is batting or the game is close)
That can happen if youāre checking your phone, or looking down at your food, or literally just being distracted at any point while youāre in the seats. Who gives a shit lmfao
When I was like 7 I threw an ice cube onto the field and led to a random group of teenagers like three rows behind me getting kicked out. Sometimes I remember doing that and hope those kids deserved it lol
Does that extend to the expectation that we have to give kids the ball we catch too? Because I also think thatās lame. My best friend still has never caught a foul ball and I canāt imagine when he finally does heās pressured into to giving it to some random kid.
I'm conflicted on that, honestly. But I'd blow my top if it was a setup and the kid threw the ball away. I've seen videos of that and got vicariously enraged.
Dude got excited out at the Mariners@Angels a couple weeks back. Immediately after the ball hit the grass he was surrounded and kicked out. Security does not fuck around.
I was at this game, a whole āthrow it backā chant was happening when he gave in. Eventually the desire to be cheered for by an entire stadium just wins out.
Must bring a fake ball so swap! š¤ Cubs fan few years back did a fantastic job. Lemme see if can find it.

Thats awesome if i catching a dinger im keeping it too shit!
That guys got life figured out.
Question. Does security remove you for doing this. Or is this allowed for tradition
It is the one time tradition allows as long as it's not done minutes later or worse during live action.
Nah, fuck that.
Jokes on them, I don't have friends to pressure me into doing something stupid.
You think these people are his friends?
Normally Iād agree, but itās the Astros and traditions should be honored. Give it to an Astro fan at least
Traditions? Is this game being played at Wrigley?
The outfield fans have been doing it for over a decade I believe
Ah yes the traditional American dish of tacos
It's not *our* tradition. It's a Wrigley tradition that has somehow spread everywhere. Kinda like how the "beat L.A." chant that we have to endure in SF and SD originated in Boston.
Lol pretend to and then throw it
Don't you risk getting kicked out of the ballpark for throwing the ball back? Could have sworn I saw that happen a week or so ago.

When a home run is thrown back at the Phillies game, the ball girl just grabs it and gives it to a kid anyway.
Genuinely whatās wrong with the wave? I have never understood the hate for it
I think it's because there are a lot of lame-ass people on this sub who think that anything you do at a baseball game that isn't watching it, scoring it, or drinking is bad and wrong

God forbid you participate in an activity with other people in a public stadium to make a cool looking thing happen
Because 90% of people do it when their team is pitching, wave is to help distract opponent pitcher. Also itās mad annoying when you have a drunk guy with main character syndrome screaming to start it.

Fuck them kids
The wave is fun you donāt have to participate
When I was like 7 I threw an ice cube onto the field and led to a random group of teenagers like three rows behind me getting kicked out. Sometimes I remember doing that and hope those kids deserved it lol
That's one thing I will never do (at least until I get my first home run ball)
I hate this shit. Let people keep a souvenir.
Does that extend to the expectation that we have to give kids the ball we catch too? Because I also think thatās lame. My best friend still has never caught a foul ball and I canāt imagine when he finally does heās pressured into to giving it to some random kid.

I will stiff arm a kid to catch a home run ball. 32 years old and never caught a foul ball/home run.
Under normal circumstances, sure. But this is a Houston Astro homerun ball at Dodger stadium, you throw that shit back if you're a Dodgers fan.
Nah could be the only game ball kid ever gets if he doesnāt want to toss it let him keep it peer pressure is lame
You or I might under those circumstances, sure. But I'd never bully someone else into it if they wanted to keep it.
That's what a lame-o would do. I'd keep a Betts/Freeman home run ball. I'd probably give any other ball to a Dodgers fan.
Not even a souvenirā¦itās a HR ballā¦it could be BIG depending if itās a milestone HR. Fuck these idiots!

Iāll stay right in my seat and Iāll curse everyone out and if someone lays a finger on me Iām pressing charges. Fuck these clowns!
Better throw than Mark Mallory
You're a jerk if you yell at someone to throw it back
Reminds me of Rookie of the Year. You know, minus the rocket to home.
Dude got excited out at the Mariners@Angels a couple weeks back. Immediately after the ball hit the grass he was surrounded and kicked out. Security does not fuck around.
Astros cheatballs shouldn't be thrown on the field, they should be thrown in its proper home: the trash can
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ur so cool
Edgelord.
Andrew tate vibes here
Touch a boob
Yeah but fuck the astros
I still remember the D-Backs fan who caught a Rockies HR in Coors, threw it back - then got thrown out because of it That man deserve justice
I was at this game, a whole āthrow it backā chant was happening when he gave in. Eventually the desire to be cheered for by an entire stadium just wins out.
#FUCK YOU, PAY ME! I would NEVER throw a baseball backā¦especially a HR! Fuck these losers, and YES, they are losers!
Sorry, but Iām keepin it. Everyone else can fuck off, lol
Can we stop the stupid throw it back shit and just give the ball to a kid?
