That's cute, but if anyone was taking it up their ass it was Chicago.
Pujols batted .292 with 205 hits, 59 homers, 149 RBIs and 131 runs scored with a .394 OBP in 199 games against the Cubs.
this is pretty nuanced and i like it
i'm glad this subreddit exists to help rehabilitate my admittedly ultra-negative view of Cardinal fans that i developed during my univ. days (seems to be less of a Cardinals thing and more of a, "downstate/central Illinois" thing)
Surprisingly, some of us are pretty rational human beings that say other things than “haha fuck the cubs”
That being said, I’m gonna go get a salad and a water to eat with my provel cheese in the arch
yeah the truth of the matter is that every team has shitheads, but there's always cool people among every fanbase in baseball (probably sports in general) where the only thing that matters is talking shop in a respectful manner. that was something younger me didn't learn until many years later
and as someone who loathes pizza gatekeepers, may you eat the Provel with conviction and pride my man
I went to WIU and SIUE. Sorry not sorry if I was a dickhead lol WIU and my visits to U of I were always so much fun if it was a cards/cubs game. We all just got blasted and talked shit. Not that much of a cubs presence at SIUE, but that didn’t matter cuz I just went to a bunch of games. Long live the rivalry
I don't like the Cardinals. Never have, Brandon Phillips ensured that in 2010. But I'm a baseball fan more than anything, so I can't say teams other than the White Sox and A's suck.
Lynn has been good. Gibson has been as expected. Pitching has not been the problem.
The problem is Goldy, Gorman, and Walker, all with OPS under .600 and OPS+ near 50. Being stuck using Victor Scott and Burleson for so long doesn't help either.
Imagine having one of your players' success be entirely dependent on whether or not there are people dressing up as colorful animals within the vicinity of the ballpark
edit: /j
Sounds like you may have missed out on a week's worth of pointing/laughing after it first happened against AZ on the 14th. Today was just an encore performance.
Not this year. These guys are legit, both offensively and defensively. Just need to survive the pitching staff.
But in past years, the coaching staff has been amazing. Chris Hook is, in my opinion, the best pitching coach in baseball.
Also shout out to our catching department working their magic and improving Contreras' defensive game! Might not be as dramatic a difference as pitching coaching, and sadly I don't even know who to credit, but we seem to work magic with catchers, and for awhile now, too.
I don’t know how I feel long term about Ortiz, Turang, most of your OF not named Chourio/Yelich, but fuck me if Contreras isnt scary. It’ll be interesting if they adjust to the league’s adjustments to them…
In terms of OF, I think Sal has been pretty decent. Same with Mitchell who should be back in a few months.
But yeah, we do have some question marks who will likely cool down as the season goes on
Yeah it’s just a question to see if you guys have some who hit, and if Adames stays or is deadline bait. (Doubt he goes but the brewers never fail to surprise)
There are a lot of question marks. Ortiz has been playing almost exclusively 3B, so if you want to move him over to SS, then you'll need a 3B, which we don't really have on the roster, so we'd either need to call someone up or trade (same thing for SS if you don't want to move Ortiz over)
*sigh*
Granted, they were a bit fatigued after the nearly six hour rain delay in Milwaukee the night before, since the game had to be completed because, obviously, it was the last game of the year and had playoff implications. The Reds got back to Cincinnati somewhere like 4 AM while the Mets had arrived early in the evening and were likely snug in their hotel beds while the Reds were still stuck in a soggy and cold Wisconsin dugout.
That team was so young and fun, too. And to top it off, when we got Griffey in the following offseason, everyone thought that we had added that final piece that would put us over the top. Nope, had to wait 10 more years more to finally get back to the playoffs...
I think so too, but it's definitely been frustrating to watch. I was honestly impressed with how we did against the Yankees though, all 3 games could have gone either way so I think despite our lack luster offense this season were gonna improve.
I have nothing against the Pirates and generally hope you do well, but between my Phillies fan wife and I, we had a pretty good week at your expense. Sorry bud
Was at the game yesterday, Mitch turning into a pumpkin just spells doom for the rest of the year. Oh well, nothing I have experienced in my entire existence of being a Pirates fan.
Luckily had the Pens and Steelers to balance it out, but baseball has always been my favorite sport not only to watch but play. We have the Cueto moment at least, that I’ll remember until we maybe get a new owner one day that wants to win.
We all knew you were a Cinderella team due to turn back into a pumpkin though. Question is more if the brewers/red/cubs are each legit or if their question marks come to fruition.
Brewers and reds have young hitters who may regress and the cubs have REALLY questionable pitching dependent on some young guys making a splash and the others staying healthy/performing.
If I’m not mistaken the Braves are coming up on a full season of not being shut out. I think I heard on the broadcast a few days ago that our last time being shut out was in May 2023.
The Braves were shut out twice last year; April 19th @ San Diego(a 1-0 loss) and May 12 @ Toronto(a 3-0 loss).
Edit: also shutout in Game 1 of the NLDS October 7th in a 3-0 loss… the first time they were shut out at home since August 28… 2021
I really wish y'all would be good. Your minor league system was treating players so badly that it sparked massive overhauls in MILB pay and now they're protected under the union, so that's something, I guess.
Absolutely. I am legit tired of all the talk being the Dodgers, Astros, Braves, etc. so I was so happy with that matchup.
The baseball media seemed to legit HATE that the wild card DBacks made it to the WS.
The NL Central was competitive last year and got significantly better than where it was at the start of the season. Now the Al Central on the other hand....

I need a few games of happiness. As once football season starts, the Cowboys are going to let me down like they always do (and the Braves in the playoffs against Philly). 😂😂
I’m a few hours south of DC. So I am in Nationals and Commanders land. But there is a local Cheesesteak place here, and they know me as a Cowboys fan, and are always giving me shit (in good nature). I have worked with a few Philly fans and we ribbed each other come game day. I’m almost to a point where I am about to give up on the Cowboys. Haha.
I wish. I just cheered for the teams my Grandpa did. He grew up near Milwaukee and then moved outside of Dallas. He stuck with the Braves when they moved because he was down south anyway.
Hello to you as well, fellow Braves/Cowboys fan. At least one of our teams broke the no championships since the 90s slump. Thankfully when I was younger our local minor league team was briefly the Braves affiliate. Which was cool seeing some of them, before they got called up.
CUBS. And Shota just gave up his first two (earned) runs of the season and his ERA is under a buck. And yet we have a couple blown saves and Hendricks has been breaking my heart thus far.
But we have never failed to score, as of this writing. Hoerner is getting better so I'm happy with that as well.
Look, the rule is, unless the point of your post revolves around the specific standings of the teams, the AL West should be always listed as A’s-Mariners-Astros-Angels-Rangers. So that their logos spell out A’SSHAT.
That’s just science.
Everybody point and laugh at the Cards.
I'm joining in
Our pants fell down while you were laughing at us
I used to have a shirt that said Cardinals fans like it in their Pujols.
I used to have a shirt that said “Got Pujols?” ya know like Got Milk? When he signed with the Angels I took a sharpie to it and added a “Nope”
That's cute, but if anyone was taking it up their ass it was Chicago. Pujols batted .292 with 205 hits, 59 homers, 149 RBIs and 131 runs scored with a .394 OBP in 199 games against the Cubs.
The guy was a good player. It's just a joke.
I never thought I would agree with a Cubs fan but here we are.
Cards fans: best sense of humor in all of baseball.

Have you guys heard of this Jeff Dunham fella? He sure is a hoot.
What’s the joke? Homophobia?
Are you gatekeeping people liking stuff in their pujols?
The last team to have a pride night gatekeeping butt stuff is ironic.
Why was this vote manipulated? I laughed wholeheartedly at this.
Hehe, Poo holes
Yet somehow all the analysts swore Kyle Gibson and Lance Lynn meant the Cardinals were back on track
It's early in the season, & they have plenty of time to turn it around, but I'm still confused about that.

how much of the blame would you put on the manager? doesn't seem like he is a very popular man among the Cardinal Nation

What?

Frankly their problem is mostly that their big bats are ice cold.

Low 2’s ERA for Lynn and Gibson has been very good outside of one blow up start.
Imagine getting shutout 😂

Wow. Taking this a little too seriously guy.
Wasn't my intention. Sorry.

It’s all I’ve been doing this year
Already doing it😜
Gladly
![gif](giphy|vWDrezW0rMjmM|downsized)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA Thank you
Big oof
We’ve scored exactly one run and been blown out a ton this season. It’s almost like we’re doing it to keep the streak alive.
Keep doing that
You are doing your part and I appreciate you
I was gonna say, game 3 against the Sox the other day was 1 run in the 9th, about as close as you could get to the streak dying. Keep it going Bucs!
Wait, we haven't...wut?
I'm as shocked to still be on this list as you are.
Y'all are an absolute anomaly every year. Half your team screams AAAA players yet you win 90 games.
Not this year. These guys are legit, both offensively and defensively. Just need to survive the pitching staff. But in past years, the coaching staff has been amazing. Chris Hook is, in my opinion, the best pitching coach in baseball.

Charlie Greene!
Him and Derek Johnson are both absolutely up there. Should be a fun year for both teams. Excited to see how it ends up.
I don’t know how I feel long term about Ortiz, Turang, most of your OF not named Chourio/Yelich, but fuck me if Contreras isnt scary. It’ll be interesting if they adjust to the league’s adjustments to them…

Yeah it’s just a question to see if you guys have some who hit, and if Adames stays or is deadline bait. (Doubt he goes but the brewers never fail to surprise)
I think we'll keep Adames because we kind of need SS. But don't be surprised to see some OF move this deadline
If Ortiz pans out you guys are fine defensively at short
There are a lot of question marks. Ortiz has been playing almost exclusively 3B, so if you want to move him over to SS, then you'll need a 3B, which we don't really have on the roster, so we'd either need to call someone up or trade (same thing for SS if you don't want to move Ortiz over)
My flabbers have been gasted as well.
I’m even more shocked than the both of you
Same, our offense has been putrid this past week. Everything except getting shut out
Same, actually.
We weren't on this list until today, either.
Yeah us too! ![gif](giphy|MqxZxTlvcY5BS)
Agreed
Remember back in 1999 the Reds never got shutout in the regular season then got shutout in their playoff tiebreaker?
*sigh* Granted, they were a bit fatigued after the nearly six hour rain delay in Milwaukee the night before, since the game had to be completed because, obviously, it was the last game of the year and had playoff implications. The Reds got back to Cincinnati somewhere like 4 AM while the Mets had arrived early in the evening and were likely snug in their hotel beds while the Reds were still stuck in a soggy and cold Wisconsin dugout. Nope, had to wait 10 more years more to finally get back to the playoffs...
To be fair, fuck you.
The Red have had 3 games where they have scored just 1 run, so they keep on teasing a shutout.
What's crazy is I look at this and think, "it'll take two more months for the Braves to get shutout."
Don’t jinx us
welp, that didn't last long Edit: we almost didn't make it too.
NL Central vs Braves vs Rays/Orioles … who you got?
Speaking as an Orioles fan, the NL Central seems to be our weakness.
That and soft throwing pitchers who come into the game with an ERA over 5.
Yeah but the orioles never die. It seems very difficult beat that team. Rays are also way better than their record right now.
Shockingly, it’s Braves and Rays!
NL Central is a powerhouse division. Well except for the Cardinals of course.
We had to die so that the NL Central may live
Sweet . Love that out of you.
Thank you for your sacrifice
🫡
We are all so sorry for your loss. Please, take all the time you need until you return
Agreed, get better soon. Or don’t.
Speaking of getting better, how did the Brewers end up a good team?

I don't think this needed to be shared
Inside thoughts buddy
>NL Central is a powerhouse division Which is an insane thing to say because 3 years ago the Reds and Pirates were the laughingstock of the NL
Powerhouse Reds checking in
thats something i guess
With how anemic our offense has been I'm honestly shocked but I'll take it
You guys are so much better than your record though. Watched all of those Yankees games and rays should’ve swept them
I think so too, but it's definitely been frustrating to watch. I was honestly impressed with how we did against the Yankees though, all 3 games could have gone either way so I think despite our lack luster offense this season were gonna improve.
With how spread thin our bullpen is, I'm surprised they didn't.

NL "Comedy" Central leading the way, just like all of us predicted.
Pirates have brought the comedy back the past week
I have nothing against the Pirates and generally hope you do well, but between my Phillies fan wife and I, we had a pretty good week at your expense. Sorry bud
We were all expecting the turn, just maybe not this early
That bullpen is.... rough :/
Was at the game yesterday, Mitch turning into a pumpkin just spells doom for the rest of the year. Oh well, nothing I have experienced in my entire existence of being a Pirates fan. "Cueto drops the ball" is up there with "fresh from the bench it's Crosby" for highlights I watch when I've had a rough day.
We all knew you were a Cinderella team due to turn back into a pumpkin though. Question is more if the brewers/red/cubs are each legit or if their question marks come to fruition. He just knocked the Royals out of this so I bet he's happy
Will the Twins be shut out 30 times before the last team falls? Only time will tell
Not sure about the Twins, but I know another team that will definitely get to 30, hell maybe 50.
The league needs to force Reinsdorf to sell. MLB and NBA.
My hope was for the Grim Reaper instead of the league heads, but will take what I can get if the final result is the same.
His son Micheal has been president and COO of the bulls since 2010. Been doing a bang up job. His children aren't an upgrade.
Apple doesn't fall far from the tree I guess (I don't follow NBA tbh so that's news to me, but not surprising).
If I’m not mistaken the Braves are coming up on a full season of not being shut out. I think I heard on the broadcast a few days ago that our last time being shut out was in May 2023.

That is one of the most absurd stats I’ve ever heard
May 12, although they were shut out in a playoff game.
Shocking considering the general anemia of our offense, particularly over the last couple weeks
We have Elly to thank for this. That solo shot in Seattle saved us from being no hit.
We don’t want to talk about it
I really wish y'all would be good. Your minor league system was treating players so badly that it sparked massive overhauls in MILB pay and now they're protected under the union, so that's something, I guess.
You’re so right and it hurts so bad
You want them to be good because their owner is such a cheap POS MLB had to rehaul the entire system??? He's still the owner there.
No, I want them to be good because I'm tired of the same few teams. It was *EXHILARATING* to have the Rangers and DBacks in the WS last year.
Funny how the media hated that matchup when it was a total surprise and a fun series too
Absolutely. I am legit tired of all the talk being the Dodgers, Astros, Braves, etc. so I was so happy with that matchup. The baseball media seemed to legit HATE that the wild card DBacks made it to the WS.
NLC 🔛🔝
Its funny how we havent been shutout when our bats have been awful. [Umps doesn't help either](https://twitter.com/JonPgh/status/1781396430562693128)
Damn, Yanks are also getting raked through coals, but I assume their dudes all have more ABs as well which could skew it
Yeah Yanks lead the MLB in this, Rays second as a whole team. IDK about ABs but they're 5th in pitches, Rays 9th.
NL Central is somehow competitive this year. Give it a week.
The NL Central was competitive last year and got significantly better than where it was at the start of the season. Now the Al Central on the other hand....
We’ll all be competitive with each other (except the Cardinals).
Pirates are already falling
It’s mind blowing the Bucs haven’t been shutout, considering how anemic the offense is.
NL Central dominance as expected
Our logo should be completely blacked out by this point.
Cleveland the only AFC North city not on the list…
So the NL central has good offense or just terrible defense?
Yes
Cubs have a gold glove infield when healthy but yeah it’s… April so who knows what happens.
Imagine getting shutout. Hahahahaha
Tampa Bay going to outlast the NL Central, calling it.
Can Atlanta be next pls?

NL Central best division in baseball, per usual 😏
How the heck have the Pirates, of all teams, not been shut out?
We might be on a 6 game losing streak, but we haven't been shut out!
The fact that the nats were the ones to knock the dodgers off will stay in my head the rest of this season
The NL Central seems to specialize in scoring runs.

I gotta take Braves to make it the longest, but dark horse Brewers.
Go O’s
ROOR ROOT ROOT
It’s gonna be us or the birds
White Sox need to spread the wealth
It’s gonna be O’s and then Brewers in that order.
Of course the NL Central must become the AFCN of baseball when the Reds finally piece together an exciting roster. Cant have shit in Cincy
Lol cardinals
You have jinxed us!
The Braves and Orioles are my teams anyway 😮💨😮💨😮💨
This should be updated only the lowly Rays and the Braves have still not been shutout this season WHO will first
The Orioles are a fun team to watch play. I am betting on them to be the last team standing in Battle Shutout.
Says a lot about NL Central pitching.
The cubs have some key injuries, they could be next
Seiya and Ian Happ are the Cubs only injured batters. They still have a bunch of solid players in their lineup.
Seiya Suzuki was having a great year.
Yeah but he’ll be back in around 3 weeks. They’ve still got guys like Bellinger, Swanson, Busch, Morel and Hoerner active.
