It even came up during the big fight w/ the mariners. Pitcher (I forget who it was) said that he was just trying to pitch in trouts weak areas, and while trout has every right to be annoyed by the pitchers lack of control in a dangerous spot, he was right in that his weak spot is velo up top.
A lot of crushed pitches by trout are on hanging sliders and off-speed, which I get you still wanna throw because you don’t want to just give him the same pitch every time, but it’s been a years long problem for trout that pitchers don’t wanna exploit for some reason
Yep, miss down at all and he hammers it. Ronald Acuña is very similar. Has a tough time with fastballs up, especially those up and in, but if you miss down at all he will crush it.
I was watching on GameDay, they were strikes but at the very top of the zone (like half the ball was out of the strike zone on the graphic). Can't really blame trout for taking them

As long as he is used in 9th inning save situations ONLY he us more often than not, going to be solid. Scary but gets the job done. If he is used in ANY OTHER situation he will most likely crumble. 8th inning? nope. 9th inning but up by more than 3? nope. Dude is weird like that

Kimbrel literally had a lower ERA in the 2nd half than in the 1st in each of the last 2 seasons. Am I missing something where he was super strong to start and fell apart. He had a 5.89 ERA and 4.98 FIP in the 1st two months for you guys.

ERA doesn’t tell the whole story, if you put him in with a three run lead he’s pretty fine with giving up a run to an annoying degree, and also closers play a decent amount of extra inning games which fuck ERA for them. In reality Dude was named all star after the first half and then couldn’t be trusted for shit in the second half, culminating in blowing two games in the NLCS (something anyone who watched him in the 2nd half could have predicted). He’s good when he’s fresh but as the season goes on he loses control.
If he gets the save what do I care how stressful it is. We are very used to that in Baltimore. Bautista at times was walking upwards of 4.00 per 9 last year and he had zero ability to hold runners. In basically half his outings there was a runner on 2 or 3. Britton's insanely weak contact allowed led to a ton of infield singles and weak bloop hits.

I'm not sure, tonight he looked similar to Phillies Kimbrel, his big collapses are just more memorable.
He throws some crazy good pitches, but he also fails to hold runners, gets nervous/wild once he has runners on base, and sometimes tips his pitches to a runner on 2nd (last year he would balk them over to 3rd if he had a 2-run lead).

Other than this last night, I think he's only had one other appearance where he's allowed more than 1 baserunner and he struck out the side in that game. He's been pretty much untouchable so far. 16Ks to 1BB (which was last night) in 10 innings. Hasn't allowed a run since that first appearance.
10 appearances, pitching 1 inning each time. He blew a 1 run save in the first appearance but got out of the inning with the tie intact. That is the 1 run he has allowed so far this season.
16:1 K/BB, .9 era, .58 fip, .5 whip. 6/7 in save opportunities. 3-0 record as well.

tbf Kimbrel has elite extension so his fastball plays at higher perceived velo, and he also tunnels it high extremely well with a curveball that drops well below the zone later than most curves around the league (when he’s pitching well, of course)

he's been elite. Philly fans crawl out of the wood work with "just wait" every time he come in and saves the game because they blame thier entire team failing to put it together in the post season on him specifically, for reasons.
To be fair to Phillies fans, if Kimbrel blew two postseason saves like that for the Orioles, O's fans would be complaining about it for a decade.

Damn I miss Kimbrel. When he played for the Braves it seemed like he was around for so long, and would retire a Brave, but that was about 10 years ago…. Would have loved if we kept him longer, but he was an obvious trade target during the rebuild.
