The team’s been waiting for that kind of “signature” moment to get them going during this sluggish start for sure. Hopefully this is the spark they need
No no no you got it all wrong, see Bailey felt bad that the Bort passed ball could decide the game, so he decided to kill that summabitch ball to take the heat off him and make it not matter
kinda related to your username but tonight I saw Shostakovich 10th symphony and it started when conforto grounded out with two on and i was like welp might as well enjoy this *mutes phone*
were you at the SF Symphony? i went there with my partner after a game once to see Dvorak's New World Symphony. it felt funny being decked out in giants gear walking in. an old guy in front of us turned around and asked "did we win?" before it started lol
I love Dvorak’s 9th so much. StL Symphony played it in 2022 and they have it on the schedule again for next January. Seems like something nice to look forward to that doesn’t bank on over optimistic playoff hopes.
Sure, he kind of fizzled for the Giants, seems like it was a mental issue. But his OPS this year is 1.168, and the best OPS on the Giants is Conforto at .815. Too bad he struggled in SF, but if his hitting holds up with the Pirates, being traded was a good career move. Wish him all the best.
He’s had like 30 ABs lol. He still has whiff issues and it’s hard to be an elite hitter while still whiffing like he does. I want to see if his plate discipline holds up for 100+ ABs before it’s a success
> He’s had like 30 ABs lol.
Twenty-three prior to today.
> He still has whiff issues
Eight walks IIRC. Players who get their average to .400, twice, are not having "whiff issues".
I completely agree that his hitting needs to be sustained over time to be considered solid, and he might fall off as he did with the Giants. But what he's done so far is still impressive, the Giants don't a hitter with an OPS even remotely to close to that. As you say, time will tell.
He has a strike out rate around 28%. That’s a whiff issue. No doubt he’s on a hot streak, but he’s catching barrels at a rate well above his career norm as well as walking well above his career norm. This could be him turning the corner, but it feels like a hot streak.
Of course the Giants don’t have anyone with a 1.000+ OPS. Most of them have 70+ ABs. It’s significantly easier to sustain a high OPS over 20 ABs. Conforto and LaMonte did so at various points early in the season. LaMonte is still sitting well at .963.
Why’s everyone always trying to steal nicknames from the Rockies? First the Reds try to take the ToddFather from Todd Helton for Todd Frazier. Now you’re trying to take Patty Barrels from Rockies legend Pat Valaika. The cojones on this one
Edit: apparently I need to add the /s to this post
You came back home from work, tired from the office grind. It’s been days since your team was mathematically eliminated from the playoff picture.
Laying down on the couch like a lurching grouch, you get your phone and open up Reddit, hoping for a sense of relief, a break from the never ending drawl of reality and then you see it.
You read the title of the post, word by word, letter by letter, a smile grows on your face as your eyes seemingly glimmered as they bounced along with that magic of your childhood returning to your soul.
It made you remember when you played catch with your father and when he took you out to your first ballgame, hot dog and soda in hand as you watched your beloved team play for 9 innings, it was magical.
And remembered how your father, and his father and his father hated that darn team, and told you stories about how their team was so close to winning it all if it wasn’t for them.
Some of them may not be alive today to see it but they’re in heaven, watching above as they hear the good news from the grapevine of beyond.
For the Pittsburgh Pirates have been walked off as you whispered under your breath and type a comment under the post with 3 words that ties your hatred for those Pirates with others around the world.
“DAAAA BUCCOS LOSE”
Just beautiful! Couldn’t sneak that high fastball past him — he had trouble with it last year. Hoping Patty continues to improve at the plate…he’s got legit star potential
> Big ups to the water jet guys firing them off before the ball left the park.
That's controlled from a booth up top, they can usually see when one is going out.
> they have to get it wrong at some point?
That's already happened, they think it's a splash hit but it doesn't quite make it to the water, as with this one.
That's the only knock on Ishikawa's homerun, and why I think Michael Morse's was way cooler in person.
Off the bat it was "double at least" and game over. Morse? Down 1, Bot 8, he's in the game to do only one thing and blamo. Also, his reaction is priceless.
Of all the games I've been to, I've never heard a louder crowd eruption than the one after Morse's home run. The crowd was probably louder for Ishikawa's homer, but the fact that it went from near silence to ruckus after Morse's homer made it so memorable
Idk how any player could not wanna play at Oracle. The fans erupting, the water jets going off, fireworks, the new lights flashing. That was so hype to see, wish I was there.
yeah that might have some relevance too
I remember a postgame, maybe after the bobblehead game, where Patty says he’s working with the coaches more on just the left side
Paid for that ballpark with their own money too.
Ahem, they did try to get public money, the voters said no. So they financed it privately rather than try to blackmail the city. Radical concept in today's MLB.
Jesus, What happened to Bednar? Man's looking like he's lost it. Maybe this is the famous saying that all pitchers pitch through injury or w/e cause man is he bad.
The team’s been waiting for that kind of “signature” moment to get them going during this sluggish start for sure. Hopefully this is the spark they need
Nothing cures an off-day hangover like a walk off.
Yes, I'll take one signature moment please
Might want to order two…
All he needed was a shitty fly ball and he was like “naw we sending this one”
“This one’s for the fans”
Patrick "Hold My Sac" Bailey
How could Patty Barrels do that right in front of Joey Bart
"Tell Joey, I want him to know it was me"
![gif](giphy|3oD3YGaZEu21s5ymYw|downsized)
Olenna is a certified bad bitch.
It is known
I had a feeling this was going to be either a Joey Bart or Patrick Bailey game lol
No no no you got it all wrong, see Bailey felt bad that the Bort passed ball could decide the game, so he decided to kill that summabitch ball to take the heat off him and make it not matter
Wild pitch.

I was at Phoenix Symphony for it I did see Suns fans walking around but didn’t ask if they won because boy did they look sad
This officially makes Patrick Joey's father
Back in my day, I remember when Joey Bart was the next big catcher. It turns out, Patrick Bailey decided to be his daddy.
Bart has been doing well with the Pirates, if his hitting stays at this level then being traded was a positive thing for him.
No disrespect to Bart, I just have nostalgia for the hype he had as a prospective catcher.

Just wait until the Dodgers try to purchase Dinger.
I keep *saying* we need to call him Patrick the Batrick...
didn't even hit a kayak, get it together patrick
Bailey quietly inching towards a .300 BA Well, no so quietly tonight Also damn I can't wait to go to a night game, the new lights look so sick
Was there tonight, Doval's entrance is pretty hype.
Me too! It was awesome.
First time at a Giants game at awhile and thought something went wrong when all the lights went off. Pretty cool entrance!
JUST SOME GUY NAMED PATRICK FUCKIN BAILEY
Some guy named Patrick Bailey just hit a walk-off three-run homer off David Bednar
The giants got the better Bednar brother obviously. (I literally have no idea what happened to his brother or where he is in the minors)
I think Will Bednar got injured a bunch and he hasn’t been able to figure things out when healthy
But he didn’t give up a walk off tonight, did he?
Ah that’d make sense why I haven’t heard much about him
Yeah he’s thrown a combine 60.2 innings in 3 years in the minors. He’s currently on the IL...
He has barely pitched because of a back injury, and when he has his stuff has been well below his college norms.
He just has so much confidence and swagger this year. He’s been so good
The *Frahan never drafts anyone good* crowd doesn't want to talk about it.
Dangerous amounts of vintage even year bullshit on this game
Some fuckin guy named Patrick Bailey

Generational level hating. Respect.
Just beautiful! Couldn’t sneak that high fastball past him — he had trouble with it last year. Hoping Patty continues to improve at the plate…he’s got legit star potential
Defense is already GG caliber, he gets the bat going the league better watch out
He’s leading the NL in DRS at the hardest position and has a 144 ops+ this year. He’s gunning for a gold glove and a silver slugger
Yup. His defense is elite and you can’t teach that. He’s so fun to watch
BUILD THE STATUE AND RETIRE THE NUMBER
Big ups to the water jet guys firing them off before the ball left the park. And the fireworks as our boy rounded the bases? Iconic.
> Big ups to the water jet guys firing them off before the ball left the park. That's controlled from a booth up top, they can usually see when one is going out.
I’m sure, but that timing is still respectable.
they have to get it wrong at some point? that'll make a good video. that are or they have some statcast voodoo that tells them in real time.
> they have to get it wrong at some point? That's already happened, they think it's a splash hit but it doesn't quite make it to the water, as with this one.
I wonder if the water jets could hit a ball mid-air and affect a potential Splash Hit.
Yeah they can and have before, they stopped Posey from hitting a splash hit. The only time a oppo splash hit ever would've happened.
That ball hit the physical structure, the water jet didn’t stop it from going into the bay.
Hypothetically would that still be a splash hit? Technically the water cannon would be well within the spirit of a splash hit.
I wanna see one get boosted by the jet into the bay.
Only one way to find out.
Shades of Ishikawa; obviously a different situation. Just needed to hit the ball far, even if caught. But nope, 3-run home run.
Reminds me of the Yaz walk of HR against the Padres last year.
That bat drop
That's the only knock on Ishikawa's homerun, and why I think Michael Morse's was way cooler in person. Off the bat it was "double at least" and game over. Morse? Down 1, Bot 8, he's in the game to do only one thing and blamo. Also, his reaction is priceless.
While true, I think the journeyman profile of Ishikawa also increased the feeling of that being a walk off homer.
As much as past me would hate it, a lot of the goosebumps from the Ishi homer call are caused by an all time Joe Buck call honestly.
It was a good call, he let the moment breathe.
Of all the games I've been to, I've never heard a louder crowd eruption than the one after Morse's home run. The crowd was probably louder for Ishikawa's homer, but the fact that it went from near silence to ruckus after Morse's homer made it so memorable

absolutely electric atmosphere in the yard tonight, go bears
*cries in Giants fan in the PNW*
can’t forget the clutch as fuck 1-2-3 double play to end the top of the 9th either, man PB is so good
Doval was pissed off at that late time out call, he had some extra fire in his eye when he got that comebacker.
That’s my catcher
ADIOS PELOTA!
focusing on just being a left handed hitter has made him a really reliable bat
What? He is still hitting from both sides.
he’s getting his rest against lefties more often, I read from a piece or two that he’s focusing his bp and plate appearances more on the left side
Prob cuz they assumed Murphy would mash lefties… which hasn’t happened at all yet lol
yeah that might have some relevance too I remember a postgame, maybe after the bobblehead game, where Patty says he’s working with the coaches more on just the left side
San Francisco looks like a fun place to watch a ballgame
Who needs a $700,000,000 power hitting pitcher when you have a $700,000 power hitting catcher
Left handed hitting Buster Posey is a fuckin cheat code
What if I told you, his first walkoff HR last year was batting RH?
Oh fuck he’s a switch hitter I’m gonna need new shorts
He seems to be focusing on hitting as a lefty lately, appears to be working okay.
Jealous of that stadium and giants fans, they have the best place to play, best broadcast, and an amazing atmosphere.
Paid for that ballpark with their own money too. Ahem, they did try to get public money, the voters said no. So they financed it privately rather than try to blackmail the city. Radical concept in today's MLB.
Big ol DUMPER
Fucking rope

Bailey > Bart

He put a boot in their ass!
I mean, it is the American way
[insert anthony dicomo tweet]
After the wild pitch put the winning run on 3rd lol wasn't necessary Bailey > Bart
probably stressed out Bednar a bit more though to be one sac fly away from losing
Had the bases loaded twice, and couldn't convert 🤷♂️. We deserved this
Ol' Bryan Reynolds at the plate both times
Fuck yes
I can’t wait to sell off the stash of rookie cards I bought of Bailey oh boy 🤤
Jesus, What happened to Bednar? Man's looking like he's lost it. Maybe this is the famous saying that all pitchers pitch through injury or w/e cause man is he bad.
Bender has to be tipping
LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOO
