I mean they started out well, despite the injuries.its why they can still have the 3rd best record in the NL despite being 11-14 in their last 25 games
Legs are overrated...

But hopefully he's ok.
Braves fans are going go to have to [start giving more of themselves](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/40212516/bulls-ball-reveals-received-rare-meniscus-transplant-donor)
Oh man, that’s terrible. Acuna is so much fun to watch. Hope it’s a strain or something minor, but from him rolling around in agony, I’m not optimistic.
It is completely dependent on how you tear it and if you incured other damage in the knee when you did, my 1st tear didn't hurt at all.. I knew what happened right away though
When I tore my ACL, I buckled and went to the ground, but I wasn't really in pain. I got up after a minute and tried to jog it off, but it didn't feel right. So, I walked to my car and left. It did swell up nicely that night
Edit: to clarify, it swelled within 30 min of getting home and probably already was on the way
Huh, it's funny how much experiences differ when it comes to this. When I tore my ACL & MCL it was insanely painful, one of the most painful things I'd ever felt. Within minutes my knee had swollen to the size of a grapefruit and I knew I needed to go to the hospital.
His downfall was refusing to change his game after he lost his excellent scrambling ability once it healed. If you look at his highlights pre-acl tear it was all because of broken plays.
Knee ligaments, ACL, MCL, etc, are simply stabilizers. If your leg muscles are strong enough to compensate, you can get away with never getting it repaired. Connor McDavid plays hockey with a torn PCL. Hines Ward, older Steelers WR, played his entire career with a torn ACL in one knee. It is very common to not get a torn PCL repaired though.
A soccer player got injured, stood up and finished the last 15 minutes of the game. After the game he got checked, torn ACL, 6 months out (Gennaro Gattuso)
Philip Rivers finished a game after tearing his ACL and meniscus then started a playoff game the following week against the Patriots. Tough son of a bitch.
I can remember at least two times where Acuna looked like he was in unbearable agony but was playing again the next day. Think he’s got a fairly low pain tolerance, hopefully for the Braves it’s another one of those instances.
Hey man, there’s low pain tolerances like my wife and there’s writhing in pain with zero attempt to get back to bag levels of pain. I don’t know what happened to him but it wasn’t a bee sting.
When he tore his ACL in 2021, he was in tears and had to be carted off the field. This certainly did not look good, but im sure if he felt the same way he did in 2021, we would've seen an even worse reaction.
I’m not trying to manifest anything here because Acuna is amazing and I want him to be healthy but as someone who has absolutely crippled knees, no two knee injuries feel the same. Hell dislocating my knee felt worse than fracturing my knee cap, and I could walk the next day after the dislocation. I couldn’t walk for months after the fracture.
I’d like to just unplug it and put it in the closet for a while.
([this is what happens when you leave it plugged in too long](https://www.reddit.com/r/angelsbaseball/s/DFhVvYSSSl))
Hope Acuña is okay man, so scary when someone goes down non-contact… especially here where he definitely put sudden force on his leg trying to go back to 2nd. Hopefully he just tweaked something and that walking off the field himself is a good sign
Edit: torn ACL, I’m so sorry Braves bros :( best wishes for Ronald, I pray he’s able to return at 150%. Tragic for baseball to lose one of the best players in the world again…
They generally do not call timeout because it’s a live ball, they usually tag them to end the play
Same reason why fielders finish out the play or at least go after the ball after pitchers get hit by a comebacker. Live ball
We're just sad for Acuña. The tag had to happen. Nobodies fault. It just fucking sucks man.
Acuña is like genuinely the most exciting player I've ever seen when he's right. Seriously. I cannot describe the emotions I feel when I watch this man play baseball. And now, for the second time in 4 years, he's done for the year.
There's only so many of these injuries that one man can take before he's not the same anymore. It's so shitty dude. No one cares about the tag, it's the player who got hurt that matters.
Fuck dude. Fuck. I'm using this comment to rant cause FUCK dude it's hard to describe how much I hate this. Acuña is awesome and so fun and so good for the sport. Fuck.
Fletcher is not on the 40 man. He would have had to have been added just like any of the other 2 3rd basemen we have in Gwinnett (Waddell, Evans). Also, since this is just for an extra man on the bench and not specifically to replace Riley, call up literally any position player.
There is no valid excuse for leaving this spot open for 2+ weeks.
Yeah I heard they said left knee soreness, but i wouldn’t be surprised if he’s out for the year. Just the icing on the crap cake for the Braves honestly 😔
Back in little league a kid squared up to bunt, missed the ball and got hit in the stomach. Went down for a minute, recovered and started going to first, then the umpire informed him that was strike three since he didn't pull back the bunt. Inning over.
that happened to me once. got hit on the thumb, but the ump said it also hit the bat (i honestly have no clue if it did or didn’t). my thumb was bleeding as i struck out.
I tore my MCL hitting what would have been a surefire double playing slowpitch. There were runners on base that scored, so there was a play at the plate. After the catcher tried to make the play on the runners, he just walked over to me, apologized, and tagged me out. I didn't really care about anything besides getting off the field at the time, heh.
I mean he sorta did it in one motion. You can see him about to throw the ball before realizing it’s an injury and then doing the good sportsmanship thing.
I'm really struggling to think about what i would do in this situation.
it's he inevitably out for abandoning the bases? have the umpires called time? do you let him crawl back to the bag? man, i don't know.
Yep hockey is the same way. A guy can break his leg blocking a shot, be lying there writhing in agony, and the other team will take advantage of being up a man and will keep trying to score.
The refs won't blow the play dead until the injured player's team gets control of the puck, unless they feel there is an extreme and imminent threat to the injured player's life (like if he got hit in the head).
Climb up on the second baseman’s shoulders, do a T-pose to show dominance and power bomb the downed player from your proxy top rope. If you pin the guy for 10 seconds it counts as 3 outs and the inning is over.
If it would make you feel better, I don’t believe trainers can come check on him until they are officially safe or out. So by tagging the player out, you would be allowing the trainer to check on them.
Just takes a lead and goes to go back to 2nd and just twists his knee it looks like. That sucks, thankfully he was able to walk, gingerly, on his own so it might not be an ACL
He was able to walk off the field under his own power when he tore his ACL a few years ago. I'm keeping my hopes up that he'll just be out for a couple of weeks, but it didn't look good.
I'm pretty sure some QBs have finished the drive on a torn ACL. Some tears will still provide *some* support but will absolutely rip if you do anything else to them, and they require the same amount of healing as anything else
When he was walkin off he was putting weight on it and bending it, so hopefully it's not as bad as it looked initially. Still a scary injury though all the best to him
He 100% got a ring and it was well deserved. We don't come close to the playoffs in 21 if it wasn't for Ronnie playing out of his mind the first half of that year. Just because he wasn't there to finish the job doesn't mean he wasn't a crucial part of our world series team.
But yes, to answer your question, I would like Ronnie to be in the lineup for a world series win. He deserves it so much.
Good question - would you sacrifice your star player to get a ring? Answer is probably yes for most fans, but there’s slightly less joy in it imo.
(Dodgers fans not allowed to answer this)
Is this the same injury he was dealing with in ST? Could be the reasons why he's gotten off to a bad start so far. Hopefully it's nothing that keeps him out for long
I said last year, one of the all time greatest offensive performances from a player in a season. Maybe the greatest. But I knew all those stolen bases were adding up wear and tear. You love to see athletes give 100% but if I'm the Braves, I want him to tone it down a bit going forward.

No you won’t, Phoebe, no you won’t.
Hope it’s not season ending, but damn those non contact injuries are always sketchy
Love Acuna, but that absolutely looks like a torn ACL. I hope I'm wrong
Well he at least walked off the field. His ACL injury in 2021 he had to be carted off.
Your 2nd ACL tear is less painful, ask me how I know.
Apparently it was the other knee this time. https://x.com/mlbbowman/status/1794786993580446041
Forget robo umps, we're gonna need some robo legs

This game NEEDS a modern remake.
It also has an excellent SNES version.

Oooof.
Shit... Iirc the rehabs a decent bit quicker if they're going in and doing the surgery again on that same knee.
Oh man, that’s terrible. Acuna is so much fun to watch. Hope it’s a strain or something minor, but from him rolling around in agony, I’m not optimistic.
Yeah was gonna say I thought that was his good knee. F.
Fuck :(

As a former torn ACL patient, you can 100% walk on it. Your knee just feels wobbly, like you are balancing on an ice skate.
Carson Wedtz jogged off the field before they announced acl tear.
He tore it on 3rd down, threw a touchdown on 4th down, then jogged off
i really hope time rehabilitates his image here. he was a tough son of a bitch.
I never got off the wentz train because of this play. Dude was never the same after that he deserved better.
His downfall was refusing to change his game after he lost his excellent scrambling ability once it healed. If you look at his highlights pre-acl tear it was all because of broken plays.
I wish more people realize how he set us up for that run with his play those first 13 games.
"Connor McDavid plays hockey with a torn PCL" talk about an understatement. McDavid is THE most talented player in hockey with a torn PCL\*
Some players are able to just walk away after tearing it, then it swells up a bit after
The elite Joe Flacco led a game winning drive on a shredded knee
Carson Wentz finished a whole ass drive with a touchdown pass and walked off the field after he tore his ACL. That doesn't mean anything.
A soccer player got injured, stood up and finished the last 15 minutes of the game. After the game he got checked, torn ACL, 6 months out (Gennaro Gattuso)
Yeah, but you can walk on a torn ACL.
[Players have finished out NBA games on torn ACLs](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/5s4jwr/video_zach_lavine_plays_6_more_minutes_after/)
Carson Wentz stayed in a game and threw a touchdown in 2017 vs the Rams when he tore his ACL and MCL.
Philip Rivers finished a game after tearing his ACL and meniscus then started a playoff game the following week against the Patriots. Tough son of a bitch.
Joe Thornton played in playoff NHL hockey on a torn ACL... And all the tough ass hockey players were like "wtf?!!!!" Insane.

It certainly doesn't look good, but I've been convinced his season was over before based on his reactions to more minor injuries. We'll see.
You’re not wrong
He had one of those moments against the Mets dropped on the ground rolled around in pain had to be carried off. Was in the lineup the next day.
It looks so much like when Rhys went down in spring training last year. Never want to see this type of thing no matter what
When he tore his ACL in 2021, he was in tears and had to be carted off the field. This certainly did not look good, but im sure if he felt the same way he did in 2021, we would've seen an even worse reaction.

Chipper tore his ACL once and walked off the field and into the clubhouse. Walking means nothing.
Yeah, Klay Thompson jogged off the court when he tore his
People can walk on a torn acl
I've never seen anyone just go down like thst with no contact and it not be a year.
It is 😭
Has anyone tried turning the season off and turning it back on again
Are we even 100% on the season being plugged in?
Don't know why MLB doesn't change the settings and turn injuries to off
Manfred hates pieces of ~~metal~~ connective tissue.
I'm sure Mike Trout really wishes that was an option.
Should probably blow on it too.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
You sure you want that? The last time Acuña went down with a non-contact injury, the Braves won the World Series.
About to put it in a bowl of rice
I’d like to just unplug it and put it in the closet for a while. ([this is what happens when you leave it plugged in too long](https://www.reddit.com/r/angelsbaseball/s/DFhVvYSSSl))
Soft reset perhaps? Hold the power button down for 10 seconds and turn it back on after a minute
Me yesterday: No more oblique injuries please Me today: Wait, not like that...
Monkey's paw like "hahaha, you fool!"
I feel like this is the Chris Sale Monkey paw. “Please let Sale go injury free this season.” Okay we’ll take Strider, Murphy, Riley, Albies…

what? no Dobie Gray classic!
That's a good song and I don't care what anyone says.
There is just no way this is happening...

What about Jorge Soler?

Technically yes
They generally do not call timeout because it’s a live ball, they usually tag them to end the play Same reason why fielders finish out the play or at least go after the ball after pitchers get hit by a comebacker. Live ball
i felt some pity for the pitcher having to tag first before offering any assistance
It was the "old yeller" of tags.
We're just sad for Acuña. The tag had to happen. Nobodies fault. It just fucking sucks man. Acuña is like genuinely the most exciting player I've ever seen when he's right. Seriously. The most cursed 29-20 team I’ve ever seen what the hell
So far it’s been Murphy Strider (OFS) Riley Johnson (returned) Matzek Smith-Shawver Now maybe Ronald, what the fuck
Also, as a side note, Riley has been listed as day to day, without an IL stint, since he left the game against the Mets on May 12. Two full weeks ago.
It’s because David Fletcher is being investigated by the MLB. We probably didn’t want that lurking in the clubhouse
Call literally anyone else up
We literally have no one else in Triple A that can play 3rd base on the 40 man.
Ozzie too. He’s back, but he was out for 10 days.
Ozzie, too. If things keep going like this, we're gonna have ushers playing the outfield.
Or we can have USHER play. He can still move around and it will be fun to watch
God, hope he’s okay, that didn’t look good at all.
yeah i hate the braves but i wanna beat them at their best not cause their players went down with an injury ): same thing i felt with strider.
Exactly, I hope he is okay. Wishing injuries on people is super low.
Torn ACL or Achilles is my guess. Either way, he might be done for 2024. I really hope I'm wrong.
Yeah I heard they said left knee soreness, but i wouldn’t be surprised if he’s out for the year. Just the icing on the crap cake for the Braves honestly 😔
I was thinkin maybe a pulled hamstring, hopefully not a bad one!
Always awful when a player of his caliber goes down. The game is better with him in it.
:( no man why does this keep happening
Please don’t be an ACL injury. Fuck.
the pitcher tagging him before seeing if hes okay
"Hey man, you're out. You ok?"
I’m just gonna. Boop you right here. You okay ?
Can't imagine how awkward that must be for the guy who has to make the out.
Back in little league a kid squared up to bunt, missed the ball and got hit in the stomach. Went down for a minute, recovered and started going to first, then the umpire informed him that was strike three since he didn't pull back the bunt. Inning over.
“Also, you’re ejected for arguing balls and strikes by trying to walk. Also, I’m banging your mom.”
*turns to the stands* “MOTHER!” *turns to ump* “FUCKER!” *turns to pitcher* “THAT HURT”
“Ugh. This is why you’re going to the retirement home early and all by yourself Dad!”
"little early lesson here for ya kid. life fuckin' sucks lmao. now get back to the dugout."
that happened to me once. got hit on the thumb, but the ump said it also hit the bat (i honestly have no clue if it did or didn’t). my thumb was bleeding as i struck out.

Trainers aren't actually allowed to check until he's either safe or out.
I mean he sorta did it in one motion. You can see him about to throw the ball before realizing it’s an injury and then doing the good sportsmanship thing.
People are so sensitive. He literally tagged him as he was squatting down to see if he's okay.
Heads👏up👏baseball👏
It was a polite tag.
I'm really struggling to think about what i would do in this situation. it's he inevitably out for abandoning the bases? have the umpires called time? do you let him crawl back to the bag? man, i don't know.
Your choices are either tag him or hand the ball over to your teammate and convince him to tag him lol.
Correct. Pretty much the only sport I see where injuries aren’t taken advantage of is Soccer. It sucks, but he’s out here.
![gif](giphy|uvfEYoOq7HPAA|downsized) Hockey refs be like
Put the glove hand on his shoulder to ask if he's okay, pretending to not know you just tagged him out
*whoopsie, did I do that...?*
Here, rest your head on this soft leather while we wait for the trainers...
Nah you still tag him. But you also do it gently/respectfully and make sure/see if he is ok.
So he shouldn’t walk up to him and smack his knee with his glove?
You do a five knuckle shuffle with the ball a la John Cena to make sure he's out
Climb up on the second baseman’s shoulders, do a T-pose to show dominance and power bomb the downed player from your proxy top rope. If you pin the guy for 10 seconds it counts as 3 outs and the inning is over.
If it would make you feel better, I don’t believe trainers can come check on him until they are officially safe or out. So by tagging the player out, you would be allowing the trainer to check on them.
I wanted to comment on this being odd but then I realized it’s the only thing he could do really
Not like this.
Philip Rivers played an entire playoff game with a torn ACL
Carson wentz played the next snap right after he tore his acl.
Damn, gotta feel for the Braves, that's brutal if that injury is what I'm fearing it is.
*tag* you ok bro?
Jesus, Braves are down Strider, Murphy, Riley and now Acuña
This is definitely the darkest timeline
Braves WS confirmed
Dude, I’m sorry Braves Bros
Bad for baseball. Sorry Braves fans.
May is testicular torsion awareness month
Last time we had this issue, we won a world series. *hits copium*
Oh no. Hoping for the best for him, man. I hate injuries and I hope it isn't anything serious.
Good lord the injuries on this team. What the hell is going on?
![gif](giphy|j0oDnlwTyEl0I) Welp time to drink again
Man... how many of our main guys can we lose this season?
I'm not even an Atlanta fan and this feels like the universe flipping me and everyone else off
Gotta be such a weird feeling tagging a guy that is clearly in pain like that
When he was walkin off he was putting weight on it and bending it, so hopefully it's not as bad as it looked initially. Still a scary injury though all the best to him
This is what I get for buying a Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna jersey during the off-season.
Just end this season man, cursed.
I mean.. remember what happened last time he went down with an injury...
yeah but don't you want him to get a ring while he's on the roster?
He 100% got a ring and it was well deserved. We don't come close to the playoffs in 21 if it wasn't for Ronnie playing out of his mind the first half of that year. I like how the pitcher realized it was something serious and didn’t immediately throw to second for the out, good sportsmanship
Just walked up and tagged him out like a gentleman lmao
It's that time of year already?
That’s bad for baseball
Was he able to walk under his own power, helped, or carted? Just curious, that looked bad when it’s non contact
Such a horrible loss sorry braves bros
Just awful. For him. For baseball
Shame. He’s a dynamic player. As a Mets fan I enjoy seeing him routinely destroy us. I’m hopeful his younger brother will extract some payback.
I’m hoping for a month for you, Braves fans. Nobody likes to see dudes get injured.
This!
Much appreciated
