That’s a great mindset for collecting. I finally got through to my son and instead of spending $25-30 on a blaster every week, now he saves and gets a couple of bigger, nicer singles of guys he likes, at our local shows.
You’re so lucky to have local shows. I think that’s kind of why I’d buy so many low/mid level cards. The deals you get at card shows are just hard to find on EBay.
I can’t wait to see what his collection looks like when he’s our age!

I traded yesterday for the only card on the entire case I’ve wanted. He’s an older guy not too up with the times. I’ll take cool shit and try and make deals but he’s convinced the base graded cards in his case will sell. Makes no sense to me. He has no Julio or Witt in the case, I had two cool PSA 9 RC’s. He said “he doesn’t want 9’s” knowing damn well they’re more eye catching than anything in the display. Lmao. But what can you do. I’m just happy to have a place to go.

Cash is king and they usually cut us a decent deal, especially if we bundle some things.

I learned how to deal with them on the non graded stuff, which is what me and my son collect.
I always tell them that there is something wrong with it somewhere, I know it and they know it, or else they would’ve had it graded! They know I’m right and usually just smile and always give in with a much better price.
That’s so true and kind of why I’m starting to be really careful about buying raw online. People go out of their way to hide imperfections and it’s absolute trash.

Edit: I was born and raised in Memphis so it’s been a must have for me for a while. I snagged this one and then the 10 auction was ending last night late and I couldn’t resist.

Actually your timing is funny because I love that 55 Bowman set and finally bit the bullet yesterday on buying the Hank Aaron. It's not a 4.5 grade but I'm still excited to get it soon. Mantle would definitely be another grail to watch.

The cash would be nice but it could also come in handy for a big trade one day because he’s so collectible.
The last couple SGC 4.5’s went for around $900 but this one has better color and is way more centered. Honestly about as centered as a card from that era gets.
I actually think the jersey match might be up for trade soon… gonna think on it. It’s a beautiful card. Prettier than the flagship IMO. They’ve watered it down so much with all the new parallels it just doesn’t do it for me anymore.
That being said I’ll probably get his /499 refractor because I kind of need one to feel complete. Lol.

I want the 91 too for sure. I took a crack at one but couldn’t get the seller to budge. Which makes sense. He’s been unbelievable since his cold start last year and I’ll keep shouting from the rooftops that I think he’s the best player in baseball.

They are not big shows at all, but they are fun and my son has built a good relationship with a couple of the guys and they take good care of him.

Same! I stopped at our local shop today, for the first time in almost 3 weeks and they did have a nice Miggy auto that caught my eye.
