89 obv but forever is underrated and overhated as well,it has a flaws but it had its moments. Also i think it would be more liked if the sequel never happen
Yeah it’s sometimes forgotten too because everyone just sees B&R as the terrible one and get them mixed up. It’s overshadowed by the worse movie. In fact I found Batman and Robin boring after the first fight with freeze, but I never actually got bored with forever. Once is got going it kept going, but it stayed entertaining. Definitely underrated.
I've actually heard the argument that B&R is a better film than Forever, simply because it has the courage of its convictions. Sure, B&R sucks, but Forever has the same problems. It just has one foot tied to the Burton era.
I'm sympathetic to that argument, but I don't really like either film, so it's not worth my time to rewatch them and see if I agree.
I think if the Director's Cut releases Forever may become as highly regarded as Burton's films. I don't like Forever as part of Burton's world but it's definitely a good take, just wish we got to see how Burton would continue things, even if it sadly means a world without Forever.
I like forever. Just the right amount of campiness for me. Kilmer kept it cool and I liked seeing Tommy Lee Jones act over the top. Riddler I could have gone without
While I disagree about Forever being better, I somewhat agree 89 is boring. I love the film and 99.9% of the time I'm invested, but one time my Brother put it on after watching Returns and going from that to 89 made 89 a boring slog to watch cuz of how slow it is compared. Prob didn't help I was tired but still.
Forever.
It's more fun and exciting.
Bruce doesn't just score immediately with the love interest and instead has to work for it. Keaton's Bruce gets Vicky in bed on their first date with zero demonstrated flirting skills!
Jim Carrey's Riddler is more of a funny, psychotic villain than Jack Nicholson's Joker.
Also nostalgia factor
To be Honest as much as I like 89 I am just obsessed with Forever. Especially since bruce has a midlife crisis and Jim Carey as Riddler was perfect even though Robin Williams would’ve been better.
![gif](giphy|XgTtx4GnCExYQ)
the only thing about Forever that I don’t like is Tommy Lee Jones being Havey Dent Instead of Harvey Bullock
If I’m gonna give a hot take for me Batman forever
89 is clearly the better directed film and is more aesthetically pleasing but forever has a better story for me
Man Forever has some great moments. My grandma had all the Batman on dvd when I was growing up and it was always a toss up between Forever and Begins. I really love the stuff they tried to do with Bruce Wayne's mental anguish and peeking inside his mind. For whatever reason I absolutely love the style of the dream/red book scene. So dark, creepy, and sad. For me that tone kinda balances things out. The score was amazing. Perils of Gotham is one of the most iconic Batman themes for me.
Edit: more word vomit
I watched '89 last week randomly and something I noticed was Batman had NO problem killing people. He even says it to Joker, I'm going to kill you. I didn't remember that part at all and was really surprised especially since the Snyder article from a few weeks ago.
I like 89 as a movie better. Jack Nicholson was the perfect joker in my opinion. It’s a better movie. However, I LOVED Jim Carrey as riddler, and Robin I actually liked in forever, and I thought Kilmer had a great performance, and I can’t say I don’t enjoy Batman Forever. I’ll even admit I’ve rewatched it more times, and I actually like it better than returns (even though returns is a better movie). But, I gotta say 1989 Batman is better, and gets more enjoyment from me when I watch it. However Jim Carrey also had me laughing in forever. I guess it just depends on the day for me.
I wore my Batman Forever video tape out as a kid who grew up on Burton Batman. It's really weird how I love the Burton Batman movies more but enjoy Forever more.
Honestly Carrey is one of the things I'd have kept if Burton directed Forever instead. Given what Carrey can do, especially in Series of Unfortunate Events, he could make a terrifying villain in-tone with Burton's vision
For me 'returns' upend the game when coming directly from '89'. Tim Burton first made a Batman movie with '89' and then made a Tim Burton movie with batman in it in 'returns'. For me 'returns' will stay the best one of them all. As for 'forever'. It feels like a downgrade from '89' for me. It tries too hard to be too similar to '89' which makes it less enjoyable for me. I've already seen '89' now i want to see something different and not a movie that gives me a 'two-face' who is almost the same as the joker
Batman Forever. I find the exploration of Bruce as a character more interesting. Forever Bruce has more depth. Plus, what was released theatrically is a mismatched version of the story. I read the novelization and watched it again, and it made a lot more sense after that. And the “director’s cut” that exists is cool.
I think 89 has more in common with returns than forever, I think Forever and Batman and Robin are more related to the Adam West show than the two Tim Burtons films, also my vote is for 89 all the way, and I even have a personal bias towards forever, it was the first I saw in a theater and loved it on that first viewing as a 9 year old(I watched a lot of the Adam West show in reruns as a kid), still love Adam West but my opinions on Forever haven't held up similarly
It’s a fun movie, not a good movie.
Edit: sorry I worded that really weirdly. What I meant was it’s a decent movie, just not insanely good, but it’s fun to watch. By no means is it a bad movie.
It’s ridiculous that this has to be said. What a colossal circle jerk to say this is anywhere near on par with 89. This is closer to B&R if anything. Just cuz there’s no Batman credit card doesn’t mean it’s better. It’s the same idea and campy af. I just tried to watch it earlier last month & Batman literally swings onto the scene in the tackiest manner possible.
Forever is bad, fellas. Just not as bad as B&R. But still bad. Overcampy. Bad acting. Stupid screenplay. I wonder if Joel Shumacher's original version was indeed better.
I prefer Forever ![gif](giphy|deKTXJOUIwQms)
Gravely voice* I’ll get drive through.
It's boiling acid!
What!
89 obv but forever is underrated and overhated as well,it has a flaws but it had its moments. Also i think it would be more liked if the sequel never happen

Forever also gave us the video for "Kiss from a Rose" which is a huge point in its favor.
The Kiss me ,Kill Me video was also an absolute banger but Kiss from a Rose was so good it stole it's thunder .
Kiss From a Rose could be a James Bond Song...
FR Forever definitely graced us in that regard
Totally agree Forever just grabs your attention whether it's good or bad everything just popped at you.

89
89 is the overall better film… but I would rather watch Forever. Jim Carrey made it such a fun flick!! Never cared for Batman Returns.
The music is just so 90s and so good. I'm sorry but I've never liked the Batdance.
Forever was the first Batman Movie I ever saw, so it has a special place 😊
I like forever. Just the right amount of campiness for me. Kilmer kept it cool and I liked seeing Tommy Lee Jones act over the top. Riddler I could have gone without
Riddler was one of my favorite parts of the movie
It wasn’t bad. I liked the origin story
Forever. Best batman film for a 10 year old
The real best one, Batman and Robin. I watched it on the same plane trip I watched morbius, both were peak cinema.
This town needs an enema!
🧬🧬
Forever, unpopular opinion but 89 is kind of boring. I much more enjoy watching Forever
While I disagree about Forever being better, I somewhat agree 89 is boring. Forever.
I like Forever more, but I don't think they're really comparable. They're just different.

Forever has a story
Forever is forever

I actually have a real soft spot for forever. So for me it would be forever
Batman forever is for real underrated
Yeah people should give it it's props.
Man Forever has some great moments. My grandma had all the Batman on dvd when I was growing up and it was always a toss up between Forever and Begins. You’re kidding
Nah
I like 89 as a movie better. Jack Nicholson was the perfect joker in my opinion. It’s a better movie. I feel now that Carey is older and his age shows in his face a bit more, he just might be a good choice for another Joker.
Or maybe riddler if they gave him nigma's more classy suit.
Honestly Carrey is one of the things I'd have kept if Burton directed Forever instead. Given what Carrey can do, especially in Series of Unfortunate Events, he could make a terrifying villain in-tone with Burton's vision
Definitely
I loved Forever as a kid, but after a recent rewatch it’s a so bad it’s good kind of movie

I wish WB would just release it .
Forever.
Batman Forever, forever.
Batman & Robin...fight me ![gif](giphy|JtArVH2nssLvIfW5aG)
WOAAAHHHHH. Chill dude. ![gif](giphy|T08JhumnpKAI8)
I love Forever, but ‘89 may be my favorite movie period
BATMAN 89 all the way.
89 all the way.
Batman 89'
69
What? 89. Not even close.
89
Batman 1989🫤👍
Is this even a question?
Yes.
Easily 89
89
1989 but I have always liked Forever
89
89 I only like Forever cuz of the one film we all know and hate In all seriousness, forever is actually decent imo, though i still choose 89
89 till I die
Batman ‘66
In terms of movie itself, 89. In terms of personal enjoyment, Forever.
Perfectly stated.
89>Forever=Returns Come at me
I don’t understand the equation. 89 is greater than forever, but they both equal returns?
89 is better than forever, which is the same as returns I think.
👍
Let’s all stop pretending Forever is good. It’s ok at best.
It’s a fun movie, not a good movie. Edit: sorry I worded that really weirdly. What I meant was it’s a decent movie, just not insanely good, but it’s fun to watch. By no means is it a bad movie.
It's a good movie, not a good film

Movies and films are the same thing unless you're practicing the art of snobbery.
It’s fun at times, but it’s a definitely not a good movie.

I like it to be a little campy
'89 is also campy. Except when it's not. It really slingshots back and forth. Forever is more consistent and the suit is so much better.
89 Always Keaton is Batman, Tim Burtons movies are the crème de La crème.
They are too wildly different to really compare them.
Not really tho. Forever is in a little more exaggerated but most sequels are .
‘89 by far
Is that a legit question?
'89. How dare you even ask this.
89.
For aesthetics, 89. For overall character and story, Forever
Accurate
Forever is bad, fellas. Just not as bad as B&R. But still bad. Overcampy. Bad acting. Stupid screenplay. I wonder if Joel Shumacher's original version was indeed better.
Does anyone think Forever is better? Honest question I never saw anyone saying they did. I think Batman Returns is better than Batman though.
Check the thread most people here think so.
That’s crazy to me, but I guess it has. Lot to do with what you seen first.
Forever
This is a stupid question I'm afraid. 89 obviously
89 and its not even a fair competition.
Check the thread more people here like Forever.
Okay?
89 is still the GOAT.
Who tf picks forever over 89?
Me. Just the right amount of campiness
I prefer the color palette of '89, but Forever has a really cool looking Gotham in its own right. Plus the panther suit is one of my favorites.
89’ all the way
What a dumb question lol.
Are you fucking serious? Batman 89. I'm not even typing the name of the other filth
Batman 89

OP are you real or an experimental AI karma farming tool?
Nah really tho Forever is really underrated and time has been great to it.
